Just tried out the PtR yesterday and it felt so good I was surprised I hadn’t seen any videos on it. They got rid of RoP (rest in hell) And they made all the fun spells strong again. I’m a big glacial spike and comet storm enjoyer. Gunna be weird telling my guild and m+ team I’m swapping off spriest and start gearing the mage back up ❤

I'm glad the fun abilities seem to be the good abilities for a change. Coldest Snap sounds powerful, but it essentially replaces Shifting Power. I think I don't want to juggle two (three) CD reduction skills, that sounds a bit much... Mass Barrier is really nice, I love the group utility aspect, how customizable the skill is and how it's visually clear what happens, even to non-Mage players. Hopefully, the spec feels less spammy and less awkward to play now.

I think coldest snap/cold snap its very nice! like you really need to know the fights or think in the moment if you can MEGA burst or you need to save it for a dangerous boss situation. This made the game more fun in my opinion.

The problem is that you want to maximize glacial spike casts by always casting it at 5 stacks. Anytime you over cap icicles you're losing dps. As far as rng issues this one's not really that big a deal

Wondering, would it be better to Glacial Spike -> Flurry -> 2x Ice lance or Would it be FB -> Flurry -> GS -> Icelance. Is the shatter instant or like frostbol GS's travel time is taken into account.

Porom talked about it and said its aoe actually feels really good. I mean I love the idea of Big Burn - Filler - Mini Burn - Filler....but I hated running m+ with it coz aoe just felt weird. But apparently, it's way smoother now

To be fair I'd argue Arcane (somehow, someway) was the best mage tree in the first place. It's complicated and a little bloated (but that'll be better with no RoP), but it has a decent baseline design and a strong niche it excels in. Plus, the change to Orb Barrage is going to be fucking amazing, so even if the changes are small, to me they are a nice improvement over something that was already quite decent.

I am so glad frost mage feels good again. I have been maining frost mage since Vanilla. Genuinely almost two decades of playing Frost Mage in WoW, with a little bit of fire and arcane for maybe a couple weeks at a time at most. It is just the class fantasy I enjoy the most. It is not even one trick pony-ing it is genuine vehement refusal to do anything else. Can't wait for this to hit live servers.

​@kittyislandadventure which unfortunately is very fight dependant compared to an automatic cheat death in cauterize. Fire is almost always the defacto prog spec because it is the safest and also brings an execute which is almost always relevant on end tier bosses.

I don't understand what you are saying on the "wasting icicles" thing. If you get an icicle when you have 5, it just launches off the first one you got. An icicle is never wasted. Unless they fundamentally changed how they work. You simply can't waste one. Even with glacial spike talented.

So if you go from 3 > 5 icicles (because of the talent) suddenly and you aren't expecting it, you may already be queueing up a frostbolt and either need to cancel, which feels bad, or cast spike after your next global, which also feels bad. It is small, but the 99%ers will care as they'll want to fit in as many spikes without cancelling casts as possible. Most players won't need to worry about this. The "gain an extra icicle proc" talent is pretty terrible anyways as it adds nothing to flavor and actually negatively affects gameplay now. It should be reworked or chucked.

Having a new pet, that at best, minimum efficiency need 1 extra keybind, but preferably up to 4 for maximum control, is a dealbreaker for me. Pets suck, simply put, and if even MM hunters can opt out of them, so should a damn frostmage be able to.

You can ofc make a macro for it to always attack your target but then you cannot stack the debuff on multipletargets. You probably want to keybind passive too etc. As long as it's a controllable pet, having binds to control it will always be the minmax way of doing it.

I will try it out, but the only change I hated with passion more than this one was ignite rework on fire mage, and awfull phoenix flames spreading. 1) It forces us to play with ele...cuz it's part of IV now, and I hate using any pets in this game with passion, this alone might be a dealbreaker 2) I'm one mage out there who accualy loved playing with RoP, and a lot of my enjoyment of the game camed from creativly cheesing mechanics so I don't lose uptime, but on frost it's not that big of a deal, and I leave it here just beacuse I'm still salty that they forced us to "pick" talent noone ever picked in the history of WoW...and even nerfed it. COME ON! 3) I hate glacial spike with passion. It's pyroclasm from fire but MUCH worse, cuz you don't lose anything for holding pyro for few seconds, and not sending glacial as soon as possible is trolling. Frost was always "the BM hunter of mages" for me, with all meaningfull damage comming from instant casts, and only standing still for frostbolts spam, that we press only to get procs anyway, so it don't feel THAT bad to interrupt it and run away when needed. 4) The fuck is ray of frost? Never seen it played, and I would prefer for it to stay that way 5) The coldest snap interacting with cold snap is bullshit, and "non-immune ice block" feeling mandatory is awfull. Blizzard i beg you take "normal" ice block off gcd, then it's a choice between full immunity, and "basicly immunity, but wihout clearing debuffs"...now with normal ice block getting fucked up by gcd half of the times, not playing 70%DR+CrazyHeal one is borderlane trolling 6) I just really liked the frost we have now with really easy, almost braindead rotation full of instants, and keeping it exacly like it was, and slightly increasing damage would make the spec perfect (I dunno, like 20% more ice lance damage, so we good on single target, and fully uncap frozen orbs, so the crazy pulls like AA where you pressed orb every global would not only look awesome but did insane damage too
