Frost seeding is a practice where seed is broadcasted onto fields or pastures in late winter to early spring. This lower cost and lower disturbance method can provide benefits for growers and producers of all types. Thanks to a rapid response grant from the USDA, a team from NC State Extension will utilize drones to frost seed fields and pastures impacted by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina. This video covers the basics of frost seeding and its potential benefits. It also provides information on the project, including the goals and objectives.
