Surely this is a problem with the Lazerox and Folded Space guides? The product Cephalofair is responsible for and the one they created TELLS YOU EXACTLY WHAT TO DO IN A LEAFLET THAT SAYS “Stop! Read this before you do anything else!”. Like using the add-on product you bought, for example. Funny that you read the 80-page rulebook multiple times, but not the four-page pamphlet.

Id like to see you write a flawless rulebook for a game of this size and complexity. Picking that 1 fault out of the whole rule book....id say fantastic job on the rules personally.

@@Erginartesia Depends on the person, I think. I can't stand opening a game and just given bags to figure out how the heck it all is organized. I love when a publisher takes the time to show us how it all goes back in the most efficient way. Saves me from trying to google "how does this go back in the box?" haha

The first thing you are presented with when opening the box is the "Welcome to frosthaven!" sheet. It clearly states: "STOP: Read this before you do anything else!" If you read the sheet and follow along, your setup is complete and you will never need to reference the numbers again! Your major complaint is due to your inability to follow instructions not the developers.

I think something every board game should have is a reference card that just include the initial setup of the game; How many cards each player start with, and resources, etc... Instead of having to read through the rule book every time you come back to a game.

OMG!! I had the EXACT same issue when I got my copy last month. I also got the folded space organizer and read that stupid rule book a hundred times trying to figure out what cards I needed to start with. At that time there was no info online as to how to organize the decks or where to find the info. It took me days to finally think to check that little organizer paper and behold, there it was. Needless to say I felt like a fool, and I was super irritated as well. Good to know I wasn’t alone!

Yeah, it does say that, but there’s so much freaking crap in the box it’s kind of hard to remember to go back and reference that. I think that info could have easily been included in the rule book as that’s the thing I’m going to be reading for sure. Rather silly to only have that info on an organizer sheet…also, who follows instructions?? 😂

@@SirHoopie03 The pamphlet is the first thing you see when you open the box, and it literally says "stop and read this before you do anything else". It's 100% not on the developers to account for people who deliberately choose to self-sabotage.

​@@SirHoopie03 The problem is people got outside inserts, they then skip the booklet thinking its a setup of the standard game one, not thinking it includes set up for the game itself. Same issue with Crowd Ox Jaws of the Lion Organizer, however its not complained about because majority got the standard insert that came with the game and didn't have trouble. My argument is it isn't the games fault, nor Jessie, its Laser Ox's for not providing proper setup for a game with their insert.

Completely disagree, because the reason you skipped that small start here booklet is because you had the laser ox insert, so the fault is with their guide not providing the proper info on how to separate cards in their insert for starting the game. If you had the standard insert provided by Cephalofair you would have had the proper set up for that insert. Isn't a fault with the rulebook or start guide for the game, its a problem with an outside insert. Ive had this trouble with other laser ox inserts, it makes you the reader look past the start here guide thinking its just organization for the standard insert.

Awaken Realms.... AMAZING GAMES.... but the rule books... yeah... the rule books do leave something to be desired.... There's a fine line between "don't repeat the rules in multiple places" and "a good organized rule book"... At the very least "see page X / Insert X for more information"

What I also didn´t understand is, why was there no barrcks, alchimist and craftsmanlocation already printed on the map at Lv1? After almost 6 scenarios, I found out, that you start with these 3 buildings at Lv1. Why dont they open this on the map at Lv1, could have saved the ´LV1 Sticker. So we could already get potions and other stuff for dungeons, we struggled with. And the stickers for scenariorequirements.....why would you stick them on a piece of paper? In GH it was on the map, wich you never throw away...but a sheet of paper...really? Better draw or write it on the sheet instead of sticking them to it.

GMT games (Dominant Species) has living rulebooks on their website. They have a system that can adapt and deal with things like this.

This reminds me of Erune, the game itself is really fun to play, but the rulebook is all over the place and badly written. There’s too much unnecessary flavour text, which make it a bigger book than needed. It should have just gotten straight to the point and I think it would have been a major improvement. There was just so much useless text to read through that by the time I got to a certain point, I forgot what I read beforehand.

Totally agree! Soo frustrating. I think they need to do more blind playtesting, give people the rulebook and see if they can learn it instead of you teaching it. Also if you have different setup requirements for player count don't bury it in the text, kept it seperate in a side bubble or bold it so it's easy to find. I shouldn't have to read the whole setup instructions for a game I know just to find that I need 3 cards in this row instead of 4 or you start with 3 meeples instead of 2 when playing in a 2 player vs 4 player game. when you need a whole day to unpack, put together storage for it, read rules, and over an hour to store game components then that board game was meant to be a computer game ... thanks I will play it online once it is made into digital version... its just way too much work to play it as a board game and no one has that time to waste on all tediousness that comes with it, even original one was a nightmare to set up and store!

Your argument is for someone who is going to play it as soon as they got it. I unpacked the game and put together the storage months ago, but still haven't played it yet. My game group is planning on doing forgotten circles then Crimson Scales before they get to Frosthaven. Digital version locks in you decisions, were if you have a simple misplay, or someone forgot about a rule, you need to restart the turn, or in many cases restart the scenario. Were in the board game I can simply just fix the mistake. The digital aspect of the Digital version gets in the way of something that was intended to be a board game.

To be fair, they did make the rulebook public for like atleast half a year or something now? The fact so many future players didn't notice it can't shift the blame so hard on people that know that information by the back of their hand. Still, quite funny it ended up like that. Haven't gotten my copy yet but doesn't the pamphlet tell you to read it very carefully before doing anything else, similar to the jaws of the lion one? Loved the video and completely agree tho, just had to fanboy FH a bit :). But it is a real issue in a lot of titles and I really hope it will die off slowly.
