My one and only concern is that it looks like a solo game turned into a co-op. I get it, and discussion can be nice, but I wish they had done factions or split the map or something to make it feel more... cooperative? That said, I love the look of everything else. Thanks for the playthrough!
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
They are working on more co-op, partially from my feedback and that of others. I can't say for sure how it will turn out, but it looks like factions and special powers and "owning" one aspect of survival and that kind of thing. Hopefully it turns out well.

I titally agree and will not back this game because of this. Solo or pseudo Coop is really nothing for me.
@Jesentra4 жыл бұрын
A lot of people (myself included) have voiced this concern on the forums, and the designers have said they are already working on the co-op facet, as OP said. I'm currently backing, but I will probably pull my pledge if I don't see any improvement on the co-op front...I do love solo play games, but I can't justify $80 for a game that I either play by myself, or where we just take turns moving the pieces around.
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
@@Jesentra I've talked with Adam (the designer) a good bit, including today. I think they will certainly successfully add powers and abilities for each player, but the core gameplay isn't going to change. I'm VERY happy they aren't adding the semi-coop some people were asking for. I think that would have had the potential to drastically shift the core design as a whole.
@Gutock4 жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop Exact same thoughts. I'm in for a Euro now just to watch, but I really can't justify spending that much for a solo game when I can play my other co-ops solo as well. I get that there are some who love the solo experience and more power to them, but I love being able to sit down and puzzle things out together. Just, not, y'know, the exact same puzzle with the same resources and so on.

Great play through video, they've introduced an updated TTS modules with several modified rules, changes to game boards, and new co-op mechanics. What are your thoughts on these changes? I think the rule/game board changes are all positive (citizen sickness is no longer "contagious", and the generator board is a lot clearer - it's also obvious if you're selecting one of the hard difficulty society starts or not). Lots of people in these old videos mention how the co-op feels shoe-horned in, do you think the updated co-op mechanics make this a compelling co-op game, or does it still feel like a solo game with no real individual decisions, and you just have to decide as a group what actions will be best?

Didn't read all the other comments so if this has been answered sorry. But during set up when you draw from the bag to determine where the three resources will be located on the perimeter of the board, how will the tokens look in the actual game? Dissenting opinion for me it would seem. This game looks like a train wreck. I bought the VG on day one and have sunk dozens of hours in it. Watched through this whole playthrough. They basically did everything they could to recreate the single-player experience in the video game, meaning you have to do all the background work the video game does when responding to your choices. I could just play the video for that. Also, I love in the video that the game requires you to survive 12 days and you basically knew you were going to lose by Day 3 and did lose at Day 5. It's This War of Mine all over again, and despite the cult following about that game, it's a dumpster fire. I have talked to numerous people that have played it and no one likes that game. They like the "idea" of that game, but it's randomness and brutal default difficulty points to tone-deaf designers more obsessed with their attempt to create what the think the game should be while ignoring that they have to make a fun game. This board game looks like a glorified solo game and is another nail in the coffin for these designers. Your video is awesome though. Well made. Fully liked.
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I generally agree with you on This War of Mine. But I don’t get the same feeling at all from Frostpunk. I was playing here on the highest difficulty (I discuss this in the review). You can make it quite easier if you like with variants they are adding. And, at least for me, I didn’t find the upkeep phases fiddly or boring. They go very quickly and the events are consistently exciting. But it is certainly a very close adaptation to the VG, so I think your point that you don’t need to own both is an important one for people to consider!
@PrinceGastronome4 жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop And I think you nailed it with that point--"You can make it quite easier if you like with variants they are adding." This means that they originally didn't intend on making the game easier...they had to add that thanks to player demand. The fact they needed to be told this is a huge mark against them. If they are decent game designers, making the game accessible should be part of your foundation.
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but I think you are wrong. Adam, the designer, told me he was creating easier variants back when I was first playing the game, before the KS even launched. As a designer myself, I don’t think he is doing a perfect job (no one does), but I think he is doing great!
@PrinceGastronome4 жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop I guess we'll disagree, as I believe it came out of feedback when they first posted the preview of the game two months ago. I was among those people shouting at them about their difficulty. I absolutely believe they had no intention of offering adjustable difficulty until fans demanded it. Adam is not a bad designer but for his co-op and semi-co-op efforts (yes, including Nemesis), he overtly relies on RNG to make his games more difficult, and that is the lazy way out.

Fair points! I’m previewing another 3-4 KS games in the next few weeks. I wonder if one of them will appeal more ;)

So this is a solo game that, from what I read, plays a lot like the videogame? Hard pass. Didn't like the board game of This War of Mine because it had a forced "multiplayer" mode that felt like playing a videogame and passing the controller to the next person. I know people like it but, to me, there's no point in being reduntant and making a board game that's just like the videogame. Just get the videogame! Although, i know not everyone could... But the board game is way more expensive too 😅.
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, solo is definitely the strong point so far. That said, the designer IS working on more fully featured coop play, but I have no idea how that will turn out :)
@All_Ice1174 жыл бұрын
Lets hope it turns out great, but I find it hard to happen as the game works perfectly the way it is. Maybe just say it's a solo game and don't make changes that could mess it up? 😅. We'll see.
