I don’t agree. You’re just lamenting the decline of one style and the rise of something more modally ambiguous and syncopated. I think you’re disappointed that nothing sounds like “Part of Your World,” and that’s preventing you from hearing the longer phrases and more complex melodic narratives that Frozen II in particular is weaving. Mencken wrote individual tunes that contained individual dramatic moments. Lopez & Anderson-Lopez write dramas that are made of multiple tunes and their interplay with one another. And they are better at irony, bitterness, despair.
