A few more things to add. If using Ti nut/bolts, threads has to be anti-seize or they will "cold weld" seize together, especially dissimilar metals. Can't be any anti seize either, cause some type will cause the Ti to crack, I forget which type it was. Last don't use an impact at all cause galling can happen just like Stainless.
@cmongimme6 ай бұрын
The antisieze that came with my Raceseng ti studs and lugs is the non-metalic type.

Excellent video. Can this same procedure be used to convert a Jeep from lug bolts to wheel studs and lug nuts? Using the proper parts of course especially if there is a kit like this made for Jeeps. Know of any Jeep kits?
@jeremymitchell8470 Жыл бұрын
High temp loctite would be a better choice and you could just use a screwdriver in the vents of the front rotors to hold against the caliper instead of using the bar to hold everything.
@elvisahern3474 Жыл бұрын
Given that blue loctite can melt with track heat, doesn't it make sense to avoid the loctite and just plan on making sure they are torqued properly prior to each event?

Some thread chasers and taps will increase the OD decreasing thread engagement. I would say stick with solvents and cleaners since this is one of the most critical areas on the car...
@imnota2 ай бұрын
Taps yeah. Chasers no, that's actually the difference between them, tap cuts a thread so is the nominal size, while a chaser is undersized to not cut material. It will only cut if somehow you engage it badly in the threads. Either way I agree that chasing is unnecessary in 99% of cases. Never seen a hub with threads bad enough to need chasing, and if it does, probs better to replace the hub either way.

Surly you should of used blue locktite not red? Red can’t withstand the temps whereas blue can.
@Supden90 Жыл бұрын
I used 272 which is red and high temp rated.

@@Supden90 same here. 272 looks to be better with heat according to the manufacturer's data.
@tehgzizlauw1787 Жыл бұрын
I don't think the strength has anything to do with temperature ratings? You just have to make sure you use a thread locker with a high temp rating
@nonamealx7 ай бұрын
So I am asking the stupid questions hoping to get smart answers: why would you change bolts for studs? Just optics or am I missing something?
@FritzRamos7 ай бұрын
From a functional stand point it's easier to line up, especially on the fronts of RWD cars. Another point would be that you don't need to hold it in place when removing the last lug.
@cmongimme6 ай бұрын
So much easier to take wheels on and off with studs!

what front lip are those ? i only saw the MP lip installation video.
One of my studs broke, how can I get the other half out of the hub?
@elvisahern3474 Жыл бұрын
You could try putting the alternate facing nuts on an turn the internal nut to free the stud. The loctite will make this harder to do.

I get the attention to detail, the cleaning was great. You lost me once you took out the torch. Heating titanium in air makes it harder and more brittle, it is LESS SAFE in applications like lug nuts, where strength is needed, (titanium is already brittle enough, which is why you cannot impact them). Also, you jacked on the bare plastic without a pad, SMH.
@carolebaskins1302 Жыл бұрын
Not the aodhan wheels😂😂

I feel like fussy nuts you can't use an impact on completely misses the point of a stud conversion.
@naten555 Жыл бұрын
Stud conversions are just a bad idea for a street car another failure point and another thing to maintain. BMW race cars use them but they are timed out and maintained properly (gt4s). if you have a hard time installing a wheel with lug bolts buy stud alignment tool for $10.

20 ft/lb is enough torque for just the studs? That seems too little
@anonypersona3189 Жыл бұрын
That's just putting them on before mounting the wheels. Once you mount the wheels and torque the nuts, that takes care of the studs.

You can get locking wheel nuts too.
@WhiteVaille2 жыл бұрын
As an alternative to your ABN sockets, you might give consideration to Ko-ken wheel nut sockets, as they're also very thin-walled, but very well made. Unfortunately, they're just over half the depth, so may not be entirely suitable for your car's setup. Still, maybe worth a look. ChrisCas has a review and comparison of them with a few other common sheathed wheel sockets, though not your ABN sockets specifically. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mobOeYqrq7N7Y7s
@WhiteVaille2 жыл бұрын
Could you confirm that the ABN sockets come with sleeves? The description describes them, but none of the product photos show them. As cheap as they are, I might grab a set for the extra depth, if they come with the sleeves.
