Holding my breath for the serial passthrough version. I was so excited when the R-XSR came in the mail. Soldered it in, bound it to the transmitter and off to fly at the local soccer fields.

I have done this on all of my FrSky receivers, but the little picture of the Polulu 5V regulator made watching this worth every second. I happen to have some of them laying around, so no more swapping batteries to do Firmware updates! Thanks JB!!!

Cool video but: 1. You don't need to activate the external module. The Taranis will power the port if you start flashing. 2. This was not a 3-cell balance plug since is has only 3 wires. A 3-cell balance plug has of course 4 wires. You can use a 2-cell battery in the Taranis just fine. Don't use a 3-cell for flashing though since most receivers only support voltage up to 10 volts. 3. LBT means "listen before talk".

Gotta say that I LOVE NewBeeDrones! I ordered a few small and large batt straps from them, and they sent the straps, a radio lanyard like in this video, an elastic quad strap (very nice), a bunch of different sized stickers, and a hand written thank you card! I know this is an old video but I’ve found a safety pin will allow you to raise the tabs on connectors you need to remove or change the pins from and not damage the tab so it will still lock the pin in for continued usage.

after watching my first attempt ended in error(no resp. from bottom pin) on my Qx7. The first option after you have selected the firmware from your sd card on the transmitter is for S PORT. I was nervous about "bricking " my unit so I used a spare and it worked. Then worked again on my build in progress. Might be a repost but just FYI...I really do learn something Every time thanks brother man!

Hi there. Watching the video is educational. However I have a FS-i6 transmitter and r-xsr receiver. The transmitter does not have any pin access that I can see. I am also don't know if the R-xsr has a ACCST or ACCESS protocol. I need to flash the firmware and bind. Thanks.

Thanks for the video! I have a big problem, I updated the QX7 and XJT but can't link with r-xsr OEM which was linking before updating Now, I try different combinations of firmware versions to open tx 2.0-2.2.4-2.3.5-2.3.9-2.3.11 with all the newer and older XJT fimrwares I found but I can't get them to link I would like to know if there is a factory XJT version that really works or do I have to buy the internal module. I don't know who sends me to buy taranis Hope you can help me, thank you!

hi, you have a great video, I had a flywoo f405-v2, airbot furling 32 and other parts for many years ... I finally managed to build the new drone, soldered everything, connected the xm+ to the remote control, but the latest betafly did not show the remote control, I flashed the latest firmware to my qx7 , everything went well, now I tried to flash the xm+, but I uploaded the wrong firmware to the xm😢, and I couldn't connect my xm+ to the console😢, then I downloaded other ones and still can't connect the xm+ to the console😢, maybe you can advise what to do?

Hi Joshua. LBT means "Listen before talk" part of the EU specification requires the telemetry channel to have lower power output compared to the FCC as well as the protocols requires the receiver to only transmit if spoken to by a bound Transmitter.

@@darmanskirata4198 No, it means you only Tx 60mW instead of 1 to 2 hundred, not much difference, US has more space. Many Tx only put out 60mW.

I wish I watched this before attempting to update my R9 Slim+. Magic smoke from the 3.3v regulator. Luckily I was able to replace the TINY regulator and it works again!!! The next attempt I just used the smart port on my QX7 rather than tinker with wires on X9D... Much simpler and worked great.

Measuring 0V could be ground or could be a digital IO signal at its low state. I highly recommend also using continuity to check for ground when the radio is turned off.

In context to this video, on the q x7 flashing receivers is also way easier than on the X9: it has a dedicated flashing port with 5V output. So you just need to connect the receiver with a cable. For any battery voltage. The servo cable that comes with an RXSR even is pinned correctly for an Q X7 (pls double check). Also the X10 has the same flashing port as the X7?

QX7 owner here - flashing R-XSR and all other FrSky receivers (X4R, X6/8 and others) is fast and simple, everything is pinned correctly and straightforward. At first this video's purpose confused me as I have working LUA on all devices (this firmware has been available for 6 months+), but then I wasn't thinking that not everyone is using the QX7 and/or flashing updates routinely. It's a really great radio - a paint job makes it look great too.

So removed the crossfire out my racing drone and put in the R XSR. I did firmware and everything as per your video but can seem to bind it. Its like the whole thing freezes and all lights shine on receiver. Green red and blue. I tried LBT and FCC both do the same... any advice?

Is there a difference between the FRK files and the FRSK files? (trying to update firmware for R9 STAB OTA) The Taranis doesn't treat FRSK the same as it does FRK. No option to Flash external module.... Wondering if I can just rename it?

In using the servo plug on a QX7 transmitter and flashing through the SmartPort connection on the QX7, reversing the power and ground wire is NOT needed! I had followed your instructions and had reversed them which probably should have fried my R-XSR receiver but luckily it survived. I put the power and ground wires back in the black, red, yellow order and was able to finally and successfully flash my R-XSR receiver. That is the reason I made my other comment.

Found this out the hard way. I could not get my R-XSR to bind with my X-Lite with its factory firmware so I decided to flash a newer firmware version onto the R-XSR. Still would not bind after hours of fussing around. Read on a forum that the receiver as well as the taranis internal RF module have to be running the same firmware version (in my case rsxr_accst_2.1.0_FCC.frk on the receiver and IXJT-XLITE_ACCST_2.1.0_FCC.frk on the taranis)

yeah i wasn't sure if it was possible. for the wired RX i'll just desolder the signal wire, and for the hard mounted ones, i'll either remove them or live with it as is i guess. Btw followed your's and PBF's instructions, and i got the F-Port firmware to work on my XSR. now i just need to get the LUA scripts working.

Hi there, I am having a heck of a time getting my frsky r-xsr receiver to work. I have a F4 flight controller which the manufacturer said it is a clone??? The drone is a SkyStars G730L. I have connected uninverted sbus on the receiver to the SBUS on the FC. I was going to flash the r-xsr with the latest firmware but because it is soldered to the FC I don't know if I can use the Tyrannis QX7 method or if I need to flash using serial passthrough? I would rather not desolder as the pad on the the receiver is extremely small. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I finally found a difference between the v1.* and the v2.* firmware, and it only applies to the XM receiver, not the XM+: Normally I configure the transmitter to send only 8 channels in D16 mode for a faster (9ms) frame rate. Using v1.*.* firmware (transmitter and receiver), this works fine with the XM+, but with the XM it binds but won't output a valid SBUS signal (it does output something on my oscilloscope, but no flight controller accepts it). However, when sending all 16 channels, then it starts to output valid SBUS data again. When I flash v2.*.* firmware to transmitter and receiver, then the XM does work again in D16 mode with only 8 channels.

So I just got the Tinyhawk freestyle using a x light transmitter. I can't find a way to updated the firmware it keeps droping the signal. About to return it. I see no way to update the firmware.

Are you trying to update firmware on the Tinyhawk or the XLite? Anyway, if you're having RSSI issues a firmware update won't fix it. Most likely it's a damaged antenna on the Tinyhawk.

I'm running Opentx 2.1.6 on my Taranis and could not get this to work. I kept getting errors at the write phase. I turned off the external transmit which powers the r-xsr off, and the firmware flash powers the module at flash time and it worked perfect for me. Maybe it's changed with 2.2.

Hi JB! I can not get LUA scripts to work when using the RXSR with Fport. The Lua displays will not populate, it's kinda working because if I don't have the quad powered up it will say No Telemetry on the bottom of lua display, when powered up it goes away. Would you know anything about this? The receiver firmware is up to date

Joshua you make the flashing process sound so flacky. Its easy and if you screw up just flash it a second time. I,m an old dude and never have any problems!!!!! The beauty is FRsky has all the firmware versions on their web site. I have all the versions on my Taranis and X10s radio SD card so can go back or forth at any time.

Flashing firmware with a spektrum radio is considered by many as a no no. In the Taranis world its so easy especially if you have a QX7 or X10S. Every-time you do this you end up with a brand new more capable receiver or other device.

Now the question ... is it worth to buy receivers r9 mini frsky or R-XSR? I'm hesitant because I'm looking for a second receiver for another drone. Should I go in the direction 2.4ghz or 900mhz? Please assist me... I already fried one RX cause I didn’t swap the ground and power in that harness plug. Now I’ve found how to do that, thank you so much for showing me. Now I’m unsure of what to do about the voltage issue while flashing through the radio. I don’t fully understand what to do. I have the new Jumper t16 pro. I’m assuming the rf pins are the same pin out as the teranis in your video but I’m running it off of 2 18650 batteries. Is it safe to do with those?

If you are running off 2S you are probably fine. Almost all receivers can take up to 2S voltage.

But my R-XSR was showing a all three lights solid when in binding mode. So I just successfully flashed RXSR_FCC_ACCST_191112.frk tried again, and now BLue & Grean are solid and red is flashing when pluggin in usb and holding boot button on R-XSR. I don't know what the problem is.

Im trying to get the current setting to VFAS, but the "current setting" in the Display page. Im running Fport. Im not sure if it was in Display page before flash.. Any thoughts?

VFAS is a voltage not a current, so that's why you can't set the current sensor on the Display page to be VFAS. Fuel is typically the current sensor source for FrSky and Capacity is mAh I believe.

I myself am having problems with lua script and smart audio. I am running the r-xsr and tbs unify pro nano. When lua works, osd to change vtx channels do not show up. When osd works lua does not work and shows retrying when changing channels. It is buggy. At least one or the other works so it is not a complete waste. I am running betaflight 3.3.1 with the akk vtx link you helped me find for sunrise cicada f4 aio.

That's a tough one. Crossfire is awesome, but for many people, it is money that could be spend somewhere else with no noticeable down-side. The confidence that flying Crossfire gives is great, but the antennas are a hassle to mount and are more easily damaged.

I recently purchased your flight controller and connected the camera, Vtx, and receiver as instructed by your user manual. I configured the receiver and Vtx for smartAudio using betaflight. My drone will not arm. I arm using a spectrum receiver and there is no movement of the sticks on the receiver tab in betaflight. Could you give me some suggestions of what I could do to get my drone working?

For a typical spektrum receiver, you would solder the signal wire to pad RX6. In the betaflight ports tab, verify that UART6 has "serial rx" enabled and nothing else on that same row. In the configuration tab, verify that "serial receiver" is selected as the receiver type, and then most likely SPEKTRUM2048 should be selected as the protocol. If the wiring is correct, this should cause the channels to start moving in the receiver tab. Of course, you have to have the receiver bound. I did as you instructed and change UART6 to serial RX. It worked. The channels began moving in the receiver tab, however the yaw is aux 3, roll is pitch E, and pitch is aux 1. The drone still want arm. Do you have any further suggestions on how I can correct the receiver channels and get the drone to arm? Thanks again.

I bought 3 R-XSR in 10/2017, updated the firmware as soon as they arrived (never again after that point) and never had any issues. No failsafe ever, LUA scripts work perfectly (thanks to your video), they are just good. do I still need to be worried? only thing I recongnized is, that i get "telemetry lost" from my taranis when i get within 5cm of the receiver :D

It is normal to loose telemetry when you are so near like this from your receiver. Just move away one meter and should not loose any telemetry or connection at all.

I have an inveter tx pad on my f411, would I be able to run s.port straight to that pad and FPort will work?

If you have a TX pad with bidirectional inverter, such as for SmartPort, then FPort will work.

This is a dumb question Im new to the hobby and I'm always hearing about this brand Im curious on if these frsky receivers are like the old receivers where you would have to plug in every individual wire to it or if the receiver has a set of wires that I solder to the the flight controller ,bind it then fly Thanks to anyone that can help me understand these receivers

Joshua how do we flash it if it’s already installed, I’ve got two bnf quads with RXSr rec. and they both keep on loosing and finding telemetry signals.

For rxsr just unplug it and plug it in to the controller.

Could I update the firmware if my receiver is still connected to the flight controller?.. it is conveniently connected by pins.. worried about frying the FC.. and the FCC firmware is for US?

This hobby is amazing, first you have to build a quad from misc parts, hoping u pick the right ones, then u connect a taranis to it and it flies amazing, then the talking heads in this great hobby state “u should update to the latest greatest” it’ll be better then whatever settings your running currently, but that’s where we as a hobbyist need to realize that if it is working great don’t fuck with it! The upgrades can and do cause issues with your setup that unless at times your a fricken computer programmer the update turns into a pain in the ass and it’s not worth trying to hunt down all the info/videos to try and figure out the steps to make it all talk again.

Xlite S cannot bind in D8 mode. You can try to switch the Mob7 and Tinyhawk to "FRSKY_X" receiver type and bind in D16 mode.

@@JoshuaBardwell Dont say it's abnormal :( lol! no it did not bind... I was able to change from Sbus to CPPM no problem and when powered with no input the blue light remains with the red led flashing but not like (bind flash) then when powering up with the F/S button pressed I get all three lights and once I take my finger off it remains and will not change until I take the power out. I thought maybe I will need to flash the firmware but as it mentions it is compatible with D16 mode I have assumed that I should have no problems with the EU LBT as that is where I am.

You want SBUS output blue light on. Don't use PPM. You should be able to bind in D16 mode. But if you ended up with an FCC receiver you cannot bind it to an EU/LBT radio. You would need to flash the EU/LBT firmware to the receiver.

Mine will only binds to xjt lite module. Wondering if having your problem. You have to remove receiver use special plug. Plug receiver into transmitter. Download r-xrs firmware FCC onto transmitter sdcard. Then goto sdcard radio setup menu and goto sdcard page then firmware folder and install to receiver (not internal) . There are youtube videos

This is not easy. It's been two days of flashing firmware, watching videos, and messing with settings. I'm still having trouble binding my new r-xsr and my new TX16S. I'm about to call it quits.... What are the next steps besides buying a different receiver? Anyone having this same problem. Both reciver and transmitter are updated on firmware.

I'd like to see more multimeter content. I follow that checking ground and power are in the right place is vital, but what about the signal? In this case we have signal A, signal B, power, ground, signal C. It is assumed that signal C is desired so the power and ground are reversed, but would it damage anything hooking up an unaltered connector to signal B? I understand it's not going to work, but not working is acceptable, frying electronics isn't ideal.

It's possible to manually short the pads but some will find it difficult.

Would you mind elaborating on that, my button came off too. (Though the pad is still there as a little hump that I can press and it feels like it still works. I'm having a problem binding so I don't know if that's my problem.)
