Just in time for the fall salmon run I will demonstrate how to make trolling spinners for salmon and steelhead for just about $2. Trolling spinners in the store retail for anywhere for anywhere from $5 to $10 so save yourself some money. The purpose of this series is to demonstrate easy ways to save money while pursuing your piscatorial pursuit.

Great job, I enjoy making my own spinners too! Do you have a pair of round nose, or looping pliers? They help make a perfect wire loop.

You can cast them with a three way swivel and dropper weight or a Carolina rig or by replacing the beads with a painted bullet weight

Great video. Live in NW also so am looking forward in making my own. So spendy for lures in stores. Any ideas for a weighted body for casting?

For casting you can tie your main line to a swivel then clip on a 1-2 ounce weight then a leader from the swivel to one of these spinners

I know you asked 5 years ago, but for others wondering, you need to replace the beads in the middle with some kind of weighted body - they make brass torpedo shaped beads for this, or you can go with little bullet weights. This guy is making trolling lures not intended for casting.

I've only fished them at 1.5-2.5 knots which is generally the speed salmon like to hit these spinners.

Just curious, why do you prefer using split ring vs just making a loop on both ends?

Whats the point of the split ring if its covered with the tubing

I can always roll the tubing back over it and change out the hook.

Thats a good point what about just puting a bend in the wire and using a spring lock that slides over the bend of the wire to keep the hook on and also makes it easy to change. I am thinking this would make it easier to slide tubing in place, Just a suggestion also I have very little experience in making lures so I do value your opinion. great job on the vides

+meanjean73 i use teaspoons and just drill holes , just cut the long part off and grind the edge smooth and its good to go plus you can find the spoons at any second hand store real cheap or in garage sales.

+robbie scambler We have both barbless and barbed fisheries so I incorporate the split ring so I can slide back the tubing and switch out hooks if I need to depending on the regulations of the fishery.
