I agree 100%. We have to take care of our supplies. Food is sacred and art supplies are precious. S.

Future me would be so thankful if present me would do this. This "paint tube spa session" is a great activity for those days when the winter weather is cold, wet and all round horrible. I have lots of watercolour tubes that would benefit from this treatment. A top frugal tip!

I just realized that's what the gripper teeth are for on my very old kitchen scissors. I have a geared twist type opener, but it doesn't get small enough for the tubes like my scissors will. Thanks!

The jar opener tool is the best thing. I bought one that mounts under cabinets. My teenager poo-pooed it until he had an ice cream pint with a lid that didn't budge. He uses it all the time now!

I can’t stand to even think about pimple popping videos. But I would watch an entire channel of someone digging out clumps of congealed paint 🤐

I need to do this with my glue bottles too. So art maintenance should not be ignored. I end up with a mess after card making, and have ruined my work from paint on the tubes or pallette and my fingers from being sloppy too. Good reminder and tips

I have that tool by golden and it is not really good. But I found out plastic caps will also expand when set into really warm water( wanted to get the cap off a pepper grinder) I set the tube cap down in a glass of very warm water fir a couple min. And they twist right off. Prior to that I twisted the neck right off the tube ! Thanks Lindsay 🎉

I bought the one by golden and really regret it. I wish I had bought a jar opener instead. Especially since some of my tubes are too big for the golden opener. They really dropped the ball on that product.

Hullo Lindsay, I did this two weeks ago! Just with watercolor tubes and I use a toothbrush on the inside lids or caps. I think I would get into too much trouble with the pointy sharp items! Another wonderful frugal Friday tip. Thanks Lindsey. Here’s hoping you have a great weekend.

I like cleaning up the neck of my watercolor tubes, especially when they're new and they tend to make a mess when you open . I find an old toothbrush works really well for this!

I like that blue opener gadget you have, but mean time I’ve found a regular nut cracker to be an effective paint cap opener. And yeah, it’s definitely time around here to clean a whole bunch of caps.

I keep a pair of 50 cent pliers in my stash. Works every time. I also replaced the tube wringer with a dollar pack of toothpaste key. They aren't anywhere near as permanent but they are cheap, effective and plentiful. Maybe some good ideas for those on an extreme budget.

I have a couple of ??. Is it necessary to do this with watercolor tubes? And what if you have pans only? Is it feasible to take them out of the pans to make it easier to load a large brush that won’t fit?
@thefrugalcrafter11 күн бұрын
It's a good idea to keep the caps clean for any paint. You can pop the pans out and put them in a larger palette but tubes would be more convenient for filling bigger wells.
@berolinastrassmann11 күн бұрын
I do this with my watercolour tubes. It's easier because I can just plop the caps under water and use a wet wipe to clean the threads. Sometimes it feels very satisfying to take all the pans out of the palette and clean everything out. Usually paint flows outside the half pans...making a mess underneath. A good cleaning session helps start a creative session.

Do you have a water mixable oil paint brand you recommend? Bc i used to have a set and I gave it away. Now I want to use them again. So before buying, I'm trying to get some suggestions. Do you especially like the lukas brand? I can't buy the most expensive, but I don't want a brand that sucks either. 😂
@thefrugalcrafter10 күн бұрын
Yes i do, it's very smooth and buttery and affordable! It's not sticky and gummy like some other brands can be. I haven't tried all the brands tho.
