I have a cousin who’s family celebrated Christmas one year for FREE. Here’s how it worked. You chose one member of the family out of a hat. Then you gift that person with a service of something they dislike or have a hard time doing. Hand wash dads car every month because he doesn’t like to run his precious baby through the car wash. Take over the grocery shopping for mom for 6 months - it’s her most despised chore. Or wash the windows she’s too short to reach. You get the picture. You need to put a lot of thought into what would mean the most to the person you chose. Your willingness to take over a dreaded job for them is appreciated much more than a new tie or pair of socks! Merry Christmas

We made pics with santa at bass pro shops a tradition since 2011. It's a free pic and the grandkids say it's like going to zoo with all the stuffed animals and fish in their aquarium. Some of the adult kids take pics with the newest quad runner, boat etc. I now have a pic garland cause there's so many pics. 🎉

We are defiantly a list-for-Christmas kind of family and have all the shopping done before the end of Thanksgiving weekend. As for Thanksgiving, I know it’s “just food”, but we start buying stuff in September- little things here and there- buy the stuffing one week, here are some frozen veggies another week, get that turkey, etc. that way we’re not scrambling last minute and it’s not a huge $$$ trip all at once.

My mother handmade much of her Christmas decor and used many of the same decorations year after year. Her home always looked festive and cozy. As certain decorations lost their freshness or started to look shabby, she'd swap them out for something new. You don't have to start every Christmas season with brand-new decorations. If you can't bear the thought of spending nothing, maybe choose to get one or two new items to replace something that looks worn or outdated.

As a minimalist, we just give our kids money and spend time with family. We don't have decorations or anything which is so weird to people, but we have the joy and the love. hehe.

Thanks for the tips! DIY gifts are the best too! :) Especially consumable ones, so people don't get too much "clutter" that they don't know what to do with, but feel guilt getting rid of.

A few tips for girlies on a TIGHT budget. 1. Last year I started a “kids only” rule for presents. I only get gifts for the kids in my life and my significant other. It’s really brought some of the joy back into Christmas for me. I was a little bit of a grinch before that because I just couldn’t afford presents for everyone and I felt guilty. 2. Dollar Tree has stepped up their decorations. I got all of my Halloween decor there and plan on going back for Christmas. 3. Swagbucks does work. I did it a few years back when I was unemployed. I did feel like I was putting in more effort than I was getting back, but you can make some money. If you’re home and have extra time it’s worth it.

We’re saving a lot on groceries by sharing Thanksgiving dinner with a few other families. My husband and I took our kids’ Christmas lists under advisement, but then we made a list of things they actually NEED and that’s where most of their gifts will come from :-) Honestly, I love the videos you do where you show your favorite gifts for people. You have such good ideas!

We are all getting to the season of life where we have all the stuff we need. Candles, food and booze, all consumable gifts are what we like to give and receive. We make jams and jellies in the summer specifically for Christmas gift giving. Alcohol is one thing that can be regifted easily.

If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to see how much you spend/recommend spending for kids (specific to age), babies, spouse, extended family, teachers, etc. I’m cheap but my husband is crazy for Christmas so I never know what’s actually appropriate to spend on gifts 😅I’m either too cheap or spend too much lol

Love this video, Angie. 🎄 Looking forward to seeing future holiday videos as well. Thinking ahead is always a good idea. We love a frugal Christmas in our family as well, We started the one gift per kid the last two years. Each kids loved it. Each of them were hyper focused on their gift with out being overwhelmed on which to play with. And stocking had socks, new brushes, a special package of their favorite snacks, and a 5x7 sketch books with drawing pencils and pens.

I am fascinated by how different things are here in Europe. I grew up in Germany and live in England now. I am 55 yrs old and not poor...but: I have NEVER hired a photographer, not even at my own wedding. I have NEVER bought anything in a sale, neither online nor at a shopping centre, at any time of the year. I have NEVER owned an ice maker. Cold drinks are only served in the summer and we make the ice in a little tray in the freezer. I have NEVER bought any Christmas decorations. They are all hand-me-downs and some are nearly a hundred years old. They get stored on the loft and wrapped away after the season has finished. I don't think I am at all unusual in all this....

Commenting just to support you. ☺️ I spied 2 things in your Christmas decor that I own and love. 😉 I like your style. As far as Christmas budgeting this year - I’m super excited that we are skipping some Christmas parties this year!!! It was completely out of hand and we could hardly even find days open to fit them all in. That will save a ton and hopefully add some peace this season. Also, some of my best friends and I agreed not to exchange gifts this year. Just something homemade or super on clearance. It all adds up and has already been a relief. Christmas shouldn’t be a burden or stress!!! Edit: I also love to shop after Christmas for useful things or things that need replaced!! A few years ago I got a set of red and white plaid glass candle holders - beautiful and simple - and I just broke the large one today when I dropped a tote. ☹️ I told myself, oh well, now I get the fun of shopping to replace it.

Sadly, not quite what I’m looking for this year. It helped put me in the right brain space and your delivery is always down to Earth and accessible which I find soothing and fun. But I already don’t go that big. I don’t have family or friends visit. We have good food but nothing really spectacularly hard to made or expensive. I already have plenty of decorations and can diy loads more. The movie Elf was an inspiration, tbh… Just hanging paper garlands and snowflakes and putting out electric tea lights does wonders, and you can pick up bundles of ready made at dollar stores. No, I think I got this as I approach my first Christmas in an actual house. I’ll make some treats, same as always. A few strings of cheap lights or tinsel garland should round out my existing stash, which was too big for our old apartment but should fit here. But money’s tight because we bought a house, so gifts are gonna be the challenge. What I need is good diy gifts. Problem is… I’ve scoured list after list and they have certain consistent problems for me. Many gifts are things my family doesn’t want. Candles, homemade soap, coasters, planters, oven mitts. We have all we need. Most lists have diy gifts that are easy to make. But… I don’t need easy ones, I need useful ones. It may sound conceited to say so, but I am higher level than hot-gluing a rope around a jam jar. I have been making things for over 40 years. I am up to making some things others can’t, because I’ve put in a lot of time learning. But you just don’t find lists of “Useful stocking stuffers that are cheap but require some skill.” Something where I can make things my family might actually find interesting or useful.

Hi we just reuse all Christmas decor etc from previous years. Saves money. Unless lights are not working then those obviously have to be replaced. We only have a small family now so food has decreased but with prices so high I cling to specials and a slimmed down menu. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺
