Emmy, I've been frugal for many years and find myself surprised by how refreshing your content is. You are the poster girl for frugal living - your kitchen may not be the latest style but it is cosy, you've cut your beauty budget but still look wonderful. As Audrey Hepburn said, a smile is your best accessory :-) You are walking the talk and clearly showing that spending money is not the way to happiness. Blessings to you and yours.

I know this video is old, but I bought my instant pot and kitchen aid during COVID. My instant pot makes the best rice, but my favorite use is homemade yogurt. A gallon of milk makes at least twice as much yogurt for half the price. By the time I add honey and fruit and vanilla, it probably comes out the same. But it tastes 100x better than store bought. I love my kitchen aid, too. :)

I think everyone has their "thing" that lights up their brain when they see it. Mine was plants, candles and books. Going with the more mininalmist lifestyle I have cut back considerably because of having to donate so many of these items. The honesty with the Vera Bradleys was great. I have a couple Veras, and still love them, but have a major amount of handbags. Granted an awful lot of them have been thrifted, but the bottom line is I only carry one at a time. The good news is that Vera Bradleys sell pretty well on Ebay. I'm sure you won't get what you paid for them, but in my experience, every Vera I have listed has sold.

I think a big thing these days, especially w/ online shopping and ads on social media, is that people are fed things we “have to have” and promise to make things easier. And a lot of times, they just are not necessary items and even replace items that work just fine that we already have. But because they are marketed as these “must haves” people buy them and 9x out of 10, they are used once or twice and thrown in a closet or left to collect dust. Your Instapot example is one. Sure there are people who love theirs and use them all the time, but there are those of us who don’t but it’s marketed as a must have for your home and it tempts people to buy them when they don’t even need or want them. Exercise equipment is one of the biggest money sucks. I could not tell you of anyone I know who bought a treadmill, an exercise bike, or whatever who a year after they bought it still use it consistently. It usually becomes a clothing rack. It’s one thing if you make a gym in your house and you actually use it, but most people buy the expensive equipment, use it for a few months, don’t want to exercise on it anymore or get bored w/ it, and that money was wasted. Of course at the time the machine promised a great workout without leaving your home. You think, awesome, I need this. But did you really if you’re staring at it a year later or hanging your clothes on it? Aha, marketing strikes again.

Oh Emmy, I saw your embarrassment when you showed those bags. Thank you for keeping it real. It's what keeps me hooked to your channel! If I feel splurgy, I do this exercise. I go window shopping for everything I want. I write down the price of the items that I'd love to have at that time or put things in my online shopping basket. I do this for a week or so. Then I total up all the money I didn't spend. It's an eyeopener for sure. Sometimes I'll transfer that money to my savings account. If there is an item that I still think about a month later, I can buy it with the money I stored away. It can be so hard to navigate all those buy now deals, or the one time only 50% off offers. But realistically, things come back on sale. Or you find something similar that is cheaper. Or you realize you don't actually need that item. I am saving for a new kitchen, which is definitely a need. So I have a goal and any money I don't spend brings that kitchen to me faster.

New subscriber. My issue is that I like so many different styles of decor from Victorian to primative to 40s or 50s vintage to French Country to traditional. I always called it eclectic, but my son calls it "you can't make up your mind". Every time I see a video of someone's home that's put together in any of these types of decor, I start buying. And, with Etsy and Ebay, it's pretty easy to find anything you want. Very hard to stop myself. Loving the videos and tips. I just printed out your oatmeal bread recipe from another video because I love King Arthur too but I'm not great with a lot of kneading. I'm binging on your videos today - thanks.

Thanks for the tips You are always full of wisdom. Watching this made me think of something I do often but not to save money but to remember to go back and buy later. I see something I want (not a need) and take a picture of it so not to forget where I saw it. I just realized I have not once went back to buy any of it. At that moment when I took that picture I wanted it but when scrolling through my pictures and see these items I just delete them, do not want them no more. So now when I see something I want and take that picture I will be doing it to not buy it instead of thinking I'll come back for it.

Wowser that's a lot of Vera Bradley! I hear ya about pyrex...I was on a roll buying so much of it a few years in a row at thrift stores and yardsales. I have so many casserole dishes and honestly I use and need only about 5 of them. lol Another thing with me is books. So many! I do weed them out lately though, selling them on Amazon. Today I almost ordered a small freezer and a breadmaker from Best Buy and caught myself!! I still want the freezer though...no I really don't need it but I do like buying on sale and I run out of room in the freezer part of my refrigerator. Well, anyway....this was a good video reminding us to stop and think. I do unsubscribe to emails that are trying to get me to buy....been doing that for a few years. Have a great weekend!

I have 2 freezers for 3 people. Hubby and my son are big meat eaters! Every spring we buy a side of beef from a neighbor for 4$/ lb. Hamburger, steaks roast, stew meat, soup bones, etc. A good roast or steak here in Canada can cost over 10$/l b. (Seen sirloin steaks for $16/lb.) I have a huge garden and I freeze and can lots of fruits and vegetables, so both freezers are full when winter arrives. (We have very little income in the winter) Works for us!

So maybe if I had it to do over I would have scaled back a little but I can’t change the past now. Hi Emmy! Another great video full of helpful reminders about spending habits and ways to curb the "gotta have it" mentality over "really need it" reality. It's so funny you mentioned Coach handbags because I'd always wanted one but could never being myself to spend the money...felt guilty for even thinking about it. Well one day I was out of town for a work conference and on the way home, stopped by a Coach outlet store. Harmless to look, right? Nope. I left with a bag because I got such a "good deal". I've used it twice. Oh the shame...lol! So yes, you are spot on. If I'd stayed away for 24 hours and thought it over, I'd be without the purse and knowing what I know now, I wouldn't miss it! Oh...and I'm the same way about Pyrex. It's a much more useful obsession...lol...but I gotta step away too! Have a great evening!😊

2 things: 1) I always convert my big purchases into hours worked, i.e. how many hours do I have to work to make this purchase happen and is it worth that amount of work. The answer is No more often than you think, cause it is not a little luxury if you have to work two days to afford it. That's 16 hours of my life I sold to someone else for an item that will sit in a closet or cabinet and get dusty. 2) I totally saw you got that Happy Planner in a more recent video. At a discount and undated so it would continue from where your current planner ends. Good job!

I have too much "stuff" that I can never use. Have started dropping off stuff at Goodwill and will for the next year. Planning on revamping my house this year. I like linoleum floors. I can get large pieces at Ollie's for $60. My home is over 25 years old and flooring needs replaced as well as walls painted. I don't need the latest style. I love old china and Pyrex. Also will be using pastel colors for my walls. I have never followed the current styles. I like things very basic and will not buy an instant pot or air fryer. Just not things I use. Dont even use microwave. I agree on impulse buying. I have wanted a kitchen aide mixer for years but have not bought one. I bought a bread machine in 1998 and am still using it. I have a large collection of vintage jewelry. Several large standing jewelry chests with drawers full of jewelry. If I wore a different pair of earrings every day for the rest of my life could not wear them all! Will go to my neice. My valuable stuff has been given to family members. I have spent money in past would not buy today.

Yes, I used that as an example of how my wants exceeded my needs! Thank goodness I haven’t bought one in years! Thank you for watching!

Emmy, this came at a good time for me. I am the way about craft supplies the way you are about vintage Pyrex! My problem is I go when the craft stores are having good sales & I’m afraid that if I wait that “product” I am looking out won’t be there after 24 hours. It’s happened to me so many times that I tell myself “remember the last time you waited & it was gone when you came back.” I need to change that mindset. Thanks for sharing this!

What is really funny is that I broke down and bought the Instant Pot when it got down to $49 and I use it all the time. My crockpot that I have had for over 10 years is something that I use every 6 months. But I totally get what you are saying.

Emmy...about those lovely bags... If you don't sell them or give them away...you could repurpose them. Use the purses for grocery bags. Use the wallets to keep coupons in or instructions you've cut from boxes... Have a young lady in your life about to turn 16 or/and got her first drivers license..you could gift her a wallet and write a sweet note to include and put a dollar in for luck.. Purses can also be used as diaper bag's, and given at baby shower. And more charitable idea is to put a few femine items in a bag and give to a homeless woman. Just a thought. 😃

All great ideas Terri! Thank you!

I have learned is it something i can enjoy for a long period of time or a short period of time. Like i been buying cheaper home decor to change my home but i only buy small amount at a time. I save my money to buy what i want. But my needs are always always first. Those bags are beautiful but i have never paid over 20 for a bag, i dont see the since of it. No i only carry a wristlet wallet. Coach and mk bags are insane in price i could pay so many bills with that money. Just my opinion
@FrugalMoneySaver4 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct the price of the bags is ridiculous! But, we learn from our mistakes and we try not to do them again LOL

I recently did a bunch of Poshmark purchases that I definitely didn’t need, and each one came with either $4.99 or $7.11 shipping! Sad thing is I’m a seller on that site, and felt sorry for other sellers cuz my stuff isn’t moving and neither was theirs. It’s hard when you want to be a member of a community but realize it burns a hole in your pocketbook! So I’m coming here instead!!! 👍🏻🤑❤️

I helped my husband help a neighbor move from one apartment to another. We got paid $200 for about an hour or so of work. Hubby asked me what i wanted.im getting a big mixed lot of makeup off ebay.brand new.it ,with shipping, was $65. That will last me a while. What i cannot use,i donate.unopened, for hygienic reasons, plus the rona,so sealed. Last time,it was nail polish. Oh,handy money saving tip.if nail polish is too thick, add no more than 3 drops of nail polish remover. Dont know if youre into that, but yeah.check ebay bulk makeup, bulk nail polishes. Hundreds to choose from
