the funny thing is that online fashion exists in a weird vacuum because in my small rural ass town, if i rocked the 2000+ PDR fit to go buy cheetos and mountain dew, they'd probably refuse to let me in the store - so in a way, when the tryhard fits are forced to confront reality they invert into minus PDR ratings and the 500 PDR fit ends up being S tier because it means I can just go about my day without anyone calling the cops

It's pretty common conversation about how no one really dresses like this (and not even rural vs city, in my city those fits are insane asylum worthy too), but the one place where kind of mixes the hyper-online thought with real life is college. And my ass goes to art school. I go to class with unironic 2000+ PDR chasers with their deconstructed tiktok fit draping and falling apart on the floor. But the problem is that none of them are really good, yet the one measurement of money remains. Even in their nonchalant attitudes, they end up valuing money the most and turning into assholes over that. I can't completely describe what annoys me in all of this, but it's similar to the oversaturation nausea everyone gets in fashion online spaces coupled with the reality of "I can't ever afford to look like that... why do I feel inferior if I hate it?" But the absurdity is even stronger seeing them in person. Also, they created the worst reputation for themselves in the eyes of any normal person on the street. They basically follow your theory of inverting PDR ratings into negatives.

This is crazy, I've been thinking and realizing the same point. You just managed to put in on a paper with fire edits, the PDR concept is legit. Fashion is a culmination of the irrational and rational. Fashion is social ecology, social psychology, evolutionary psychology and so many more sciences. At it's core, a lot of fashion is unspoken communication. Context is always key and sometimes, context itself is the message. Pastel colors that stain easily with loose breezy cuts communicate the same message as a full three piece suit with the coat draped around your shoulders haphazardly. The only difference is the pastel colors communicate that you are above manual labor in a casual setting and the full suit communicates it in a professional setting. Heck, casual clothes in a formal meeting is also communication. It means you are above all the posturing and are without a doubt the highest ranking person in the room.
