So my journey to this took a few pit stops: - overconsumption - felt shit in all my clothes - obsessive about design systems - started researching - Kibbe theory - colour season theory - donated anything that didn’t fit properly, suit my body type, or that I felt shit in - styled all my stuff - bought the shit that was missing - use Depop as a “shopping list” Nothing is perfect but if I go thrifting now I can immediately spot stuff I want AND that I will actually wear. Also knowing the “rules” you set for yourself makes it easier to break them. I know what suits me, I also know when to push the boundaries a little. Maybe it’s the autism but Im just happy with the system I have now. I don’t waste money on stuff I know I won’t wear, and I can pick and choose which trends to participate in based on whether they’re right for me. And I’m no minimalist by any means! But this system made me confident.

Getting more involved in the "real" fashion community over the last decade has been really fascinating bc so many people overcomplicate what it takes to put together successful looks consistently. The vast majority of my wardrobe has always been thrifted, and I've always just followed my intuition and been able to put together affordable, cohesive fits that are usually well received by ~fashionistas~ and normies alike. The secret to the magic has simply been... *drum roll*... to gather pieces I like that fit me well! Your wardrobe will be a lot less frustrating if you just pick clothes that 1) appeal to your eye, 2) make you feel confident, and 3) make sure you have a bunch of neutral items that can always be mixed and matched with bolder pieces so you don't look crazy. Your taste is unique and like Christian said, something is only cool if YOU like it. Simplifying the fit-building process and styling a collection of items you actually love will lead to you trusting your own personal style choices more with minimal effort. Over time, that is how you become a true ~fashionista~. Keep shit optimized and you will be set up for style success 😎

That comfort to art is pain bit hits home, I ended up recently splitting my wardrobe in two (that i keep in 2 diff places) which I call "gym mode" and "street mode". I can mix and match between them but its good to have shit accessible based on mood but having some consistency.

i think most importantly is to take time while selecting pieces. finding something that matches your interests outside of fashion (akira) and mixing it with something traditional (camo bomber) is the goal here. so: just akira = boring , just camo bomber = boring. but not every piece has that combination, so you actually have to source a long time to find a mix that stays interesting for a long time

They have this really beautiful cross stitch monkey and the other is a wolf, theirs some other stuff on it as well. Really solid, I wear nothing but black pants and convers (White & Black) I typically wear silver chains and rings stuff like that. It's simple, effective and interchangeable and when I toss in some color I get good color blocking.

Fashion or personal style is more interesting the more you think about it. My thoughts on it have completely changed so often.. A huge problem with fashion starters is like you mention.. the idea of a one size fits all fashion is silly. That’s like saying there’s a one food fits all. Only works for individual items (like pizza or jeans) and not as a whole. Better to think from first principles of your body shape and build from that. That informs a lot of which clothes or fit style you can easily rock. A NY street style works better for certain body builds than others (e.g. skinny person in Jordan’s doesn’t work as well as thicker person. Most wide fit paradoxically designed for skinny people nowadays).
