I just joined a local "no buy" group and will be decluttering and gifting out some items I no longer need or want. Also I am challenging myself to use up perishable goods. Today I used up perishables/ and using best/before date/leftovers items up because there is loss leaders that I can replace them with this weekend (eggs & mushrooms). This is what I made today. A spinach, mushroom, tomato, cheese quiche (6 slices), 6 Ground beef pies, onion, potato, 1/3 can of mushroom soup, and mushrooms (6), and 6 butter tarts). I used 1 &1/2 boxes of pastry dough was close to best before date that I got on clearance for a steal. The cost of the ingredients was @$5 CAD ($3.91 USD for 12 small meal serving and 6 buttertarts. I put some into freezer for lunches. Tomorrow I will be making banana muffins and apple/pineapple squares to use up the rest or perishables. We will have a small grocery haul this week. Have a great weekend!

What a delight to meet your family. Did your brother and his wife homeschool their children? My husband and I homeschooled our 4 children. We, too, have taught each of our children to budget every dollar, thrift shop, learn how to do repairs... They seemed kindred spirits. ☺️

I usually save the buns, then for an easy dinner, I put either pizza sauce or spaghetti sauce, onions ,chopped pepperoni and what ever else such as cheese, peppers etc. Bake in oven for about 25 min. Pizza burgers! Grandchildren love making theirs "there way"

In early spring I was very motivated then got lazy.I am also going to try to not buy ANY lettuce, between the CSA that starts at the end of the month and our garden-.lastly I am going to try not to buy any new books not even used ones. THose are my 3 for the next month. Thank you for your lovely ideas and inspiration- Paul's burger looked delicious- good job, Emmy!!

What a wonderful family! And I must try your baked bean burgers this summer! My reboot is to eat at home more. We have gotten into a bad habit of grabbing dinner while we are out running errands on Saturdays and I know it's costing us. My idea is to plan a couple of Saturday evenings a month to have friends over for a potluck meal - or even just making dessert or snacks and play some games so we have better things to look forward to instead of frittering our money away on eating out.

Our local Salvation Army won't accept any more donations. They are crying out for help so we will make a donation of time. And it's the height of gardening season. But several adult grandchildren are spending the summer between college semesters to continue learning how to work the land. They will help out at Salvation Army, too. This is a good reset for our family. Keep the no waste recipes coming! This is so important in today's times and really anytime. We like to dehydrate leftover baked beans and use them to crumble and sprinkle over mac & cheese, any casserole, and scrambled eggs. I never thought of making them into bean burgers. Great idea! We will try this. I love Charle's tip. I'm the plumber in my house and used KZbin to help me install a new insta-hot system. Yay! It makes the bidet extra special, too.😊

Laura is right! Do what you feel comfortable doing on your car instead of paying a mechanic. I don't change my own oil because I wouldn't know how to dispose of the oil, but just last summer the mechanic who does change my oil gives the car a good once over and said I need new air filters. I have a friend who is very handy and asked him if he could do it with my assistance and he said sure. (I convinced him with the promise of a spaghetti dinner complete with salad and bread. :) ) Anyway, we spent an hour working on it and I saved plenty of money I'm sure. Also, my interior rear view mirror decided to fall off the windshield a couple of years ago and I just couldn't imagine paying to someone to put it back on. I went online and bought a kit to do myself and I did. Again, I'm sure I saved quite a bit of money. Brakes I might not do, but little things I certainly will. Your family is lovely and I'm sure you loved spending that time with them. I'm going to work on shopping the pantry again this month. I really don't need to buy a lot of stuff to make decent meals. So I'm going to work on that this month.

What a great video. I loved seeing your family's responses. I am moving to a new home. So we are revising our grocery budget; focusing on eating up odds and ends in the fridge and freezer and only buying produce when needed. I am also not buying any boxes, just using and reusing what we have in hand. Thankfully, the new home is a few miles away, so I can unpack a few totes, and bring them home to reuse over and over again. I can't wait to try that bean burger recipe!

The car & home maintenance is huge! My husband has saved us tens of thousands by doing repairs and renos himself. He was just at our daughter's yesterday to replace a broken belt & a few other things. None of the young people she knows can do anything like it. My husband taught our kids the basics so she can change her oil and tires etc. None of her housemates can even do that. It's crazy.

My reboot is to recycle unusual things that would normally go in the trash right after emptying. For example potato chip bags. I give them a quick wash and let air dry and use them to store washed produce. I have also put my salad bowl inside to keep the salad fresh when I have made the salad ahead for my meal. I am trying to eliminate the use of plastic wrap so I've been getting creative. I also cut open bread bags and use them to cover things going into the refrigerator. When making homemade bread I reuse the bread bags from bread that I have purchased from the store. It's rather fun to think outside the box when trying not to use plastic wrap.

What a beautiful family! Thank you for sharing great tips from those wonderful young people. My change isn't for the month of June so much as what I plan for the second half of the year starting in July (the new "fiscal year," lol). My husband and I relocated about 18 months ago to a new town, and it has been no end of necessary infrastructure spending on the new home (new solar panels and storage batteries, new HVAC, water heater, appliances, etc.) Then I wanted to deal with decorative issues like paint, furniture, etc. So the reboot I'm planning as we move into July is to slam on the brakes and have the whole second half of this year be a "no-spend on the house" challenge. A house is never finished anyway, right? I want to stop spending on all "improvements" and just enjoy things as they are, with what we already have, which is far more than enough. As your video shows, it's family sharing time together in the home that matters most!

Beautiful family!!! 😍 I know this is months late, but I wanted to share what I do to save money. I decided to see what would happen if I limit my grocery spending to $300/month. The way I 'enforce' this to myself is to only use cash, when shopping for groceries. At the beginning of the month, I take out $300 and put it in a specific section in my wallet. This has resulted in me doing meal planning, which I realized, was not hard at all. The first month I technically ran out of money before the end of the month (no, I didn't go hungry). That was actually a good thing, because I had to use what I already had in my house. The next month, I ended up with a surplus. I've been doing this for four months now, and haven't run out of money since. It's actually resulted in me doing more meal planning, which results in much less waste (shooting for zero), and more money for groceries. The next step is to plan what to do with the surplus at the end of each month. I'm looking to use that to add to food storage. Thanks for the tips!!!

My husband requires a special medical procedure once a week about an hour and a half each way with the procedure taking 2 and a half hours each time. Yesterday we found the best route to get there, found round trip uses about half a tank of gas, so checked the prices for gas along the way and found some charging a bit less than our home area. I am going to pack a picnic lunch from home each time and put a crockpot meal in my slow cooker before we leave so we won’t have to eat out. I did scout around the areas for small occasional treats to reduce the stress. We drive through Hershey and can stop at a Wawa for a fresh candy bar sometime and our route also takes us past a local outdoor ice cream shop! …Deb Gnagey

This month I'm only buying whats on sale. I will be eating fresh, lettuce, onions, dill, from my greenhouse. And my fruit will come from the Clarence rack at my local grocery store to cut down on the cost. I also plan on making dandelion biscuits for snack, they are easy and so cheap to make . Fishing is in my near future. That's another great way to have fresh fee food on my plate. I also plan on using what I have in my freezer. And possibly can up some recipes for future meals that require minimal effort to prepare. This way I can open a jar, heat it up and eat. I'm also planing a yard sale. When we bought this house. We bought a shed and garage with it. I have a shed with tons of stuff that hasn't seen the light of day in years. Time to declutter and sell what we don't need. I can go on and on about how I like to save and or make money. Every penny counts,

What a good show. Your family are so nice and such good sports. I loved the KZbin diy tip, I have some tiles in my bathroom that need regrouting and I look at them all the time wondering if I could do the job so I looked on KZbin and yes I'm sure I can if I follow the steps. I am also going to start deciding to do something at the start of each month also, just last week I started putting all my 5 and 10 cents in a container so that can be my June effort. Thanks for all the inspiration.

What a beautiful family you have Emmy! Like your son, when I worked outside the home, I brought my lunch everyday to work. I would see what people spent on a daily basis in our cafeteria. Not for me! Saved a ton! Some great frugal tips. They were talk good sports to get in front of the camera! I'm just going to keep on my same path this month. Looking for sales where I can. My pantry is fulky stocked so just buying good deals now. Have a wonderful weekend!

HAAAA. Too funny. ...How nice you were able to be with all your family for a few days. They are all so nice...and frugal minded, too. Lol. .. Boy Emmy great bean burger idea! I actually want one right now..lol. .. What I've been doing, and will continue, is driving more economically. Plan my visits for a day that are close to each other instead of driving to same location 3 days in a row. What a difference on gas consumption it makes. Huge difference. .. Thanks Emmy n Paul. Really great vid. 😘🤗✌

I watched this while I prepped to freeze raspberries and mulberries from the yard for future berry muffins and breads! I picked about $7 worth of perfect (and thornless) raspberries this am. Berries I planted 3 years ago and this is their first BIG harvest. The mulberry tree was just in the yard. When I saw them riped a few years ago I googled could you eat them bc I had never seen them in the stores. They are really good and FREE. This month we are going a low budget (175$ for 2 adults) for groceries and these free fruits will help pad us. Beautiful family!

What a beautiful family! Great frugal ideas! What I like to do is save the money I didn't spend on something. For example, going out to eat; when we decide to stay home instead of going to out to eat, I put that amount we would have spent back. It really adds up!

What a fun, intelligent, and frugal family. I have major bills coming due next month, and with all the price increases we are dealing with, the budget is really strapped. I decided to downsize our stuff in the house. We have started selling anything we no longer want or need and setting the money aside to help with the large bills due next month. We have uncluttered a lot of stuff from our home, and it feels good to clean out all the clutter.

Such a lovely family! Obviously being frugal runs in the family. This month I am really pushing myself to find extra money in the budget to save. It isn't always easy, because prices are higher than ever. Cutting back on shopping and eating out helps a lot with saving money. I am trying to plan meals around food that I already have and just stock up on fresh produce, milk, and loss leaders. Basically, trying to do pretty much all the things you talk about on this channel.

Can't wait to try the baked bean burgers. I loved your niece's idea for learning basic car repairs. My Husband has saved us so much money on oil changes and break jobs alone. My dad was a mechanic so naturally I thought everybody knew how to do those things. Before I was allowed to get my license, he taught me how to change a tire and do an oil change. My frugal focus this month and throughout the summer will be freezing fresh produce before it goes bad for the winter months.

Wow ! I went shopping at Whole Foods yesterday. $9.99 a pound for chicken. Their prices are increasing quickly. I have been eating organic foods for over twenty years but I think it’s time to change. Not to mention it’s a 43 minute trip away! I give up!,,,LOL

So I have a high school “athlete”. We support him at his events. My reboot, we will be having stay at home game nights at least once a week. It will build a talking relationship with him, save money and gas, and keep us off the electronics. We can instill all kinds of lessons into this time but mostly we will be investing in all our futures.
