My sister retired a couple of years ago and with less income worried they wouldn't be able to buy a nice Christmas for their grandchildren. She put together a box for each grandchild of treasures she found at Goodwill over a long period of time and her grandchildren were thrilled with their gifts - as much as in other years!

You didn't buy the Pyrex bowls! "We put them back to bless someone else." Wow, that's kindness right there! You're an angel Emmy and I bet someone later that day, came home with those bowls super excited and happy. It can be very easy to grab the vintage bargains without any real need. Several years ago from Goodwill, I purchased a brand new - tags still attached - alpaca sweater from Peru. The tag said $125!! And I believe it, because this is the very best sweater I have ever owned. Are you ready? The sweater cost $4. Best deal I have ever gotten from Goodwill. I don't shop retail stores for clothing except for bras and panties. I even buy nightwear there. So glad you pointed out this wonderful frugal place to shop to all your subs. Diane in NC

My husband and I bought a little vacation place in WV for dirt cheap. We have zero budget for furniture and have been sleeping on a mattress in the bedroom. Today we found a beautiful, antique metal bed frame that we scooped up for $90. It was worth waiting to find the perfect piece at a great price. The alternative would have been a cheap, junky frame from Amazon.

It's been a thrifty week for you'all, not buying anything at the thrift store. I like to "tell the universe" what I need before thrifting. It helps in finding the "some thing" I really need. This way I'm not distracted by everything that I don't need. Missouri, in the house. By way of our Oklahoma and Florida roots, with lengthy stays in Philly, the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, Oahu, and Colorado. I learned about sushi and poi long before I learned about bagels and lox. And thrift is our family tradition.

I am from Massachusetts. I shop Goodwill all the time. I usually buy up all the musical instruments to give to students who don't have money to buy an instrument. So, this way I can give the gift of music. I always look in the glass wear and things in that area. I use "Nalgene Bottles" to bring my I ice water to school every day. I get them for 3 dollars. in the stores they are 25. I live very frugal, and love going on a hunt to find something special. You never know what you will find. Thrifting Fun!

Love you videos, you are so lucky to have massive thrift stores in the USA, we live in a small town in England and have to travel long distances to find thrift stores which are bigger than just shops, however I have over the years had wonderful buy’s. We don’t have tag sales or garage sales or estate sales like you, also being able to put things on the sidewalk every month and people can pick any item up if it is going be of use to them. I love thrifting and another reason to thrift that often goes unmentioned is that thrift stores are almost always non-profits supporting great charity work. Goodwill, for example does some great job training and school support for a lot of poeple who have had trouble finding employment. I love redirecting money I would have spent at a retail store to support such great grpups. Thanks for your wonderful channel. I really enjoy it. You always make me smile with your sweet greeting.

Love thrifting, both for economical and environmental reasons. I don't get people who wouldn't even consider second hand because somebody else used it before them- every time you eat out - you use second hand glass, plate, cutlery etc LOL And when you staying in the hotel - you are sleeping in a bed that 100s of people slept in, same with towels and bedding etc. My husband was such a person until explained to him and its changed his view completely :) Love your channel, so gentle and encouraging, just what we need in these uncertain times. Food processor $22, hand mixer $3, my colander was only $.99 at my thrift shop, in sink dish rack, Yankee candles new and used are a fraction of the cost of new ones, school folders, puzzles, bread pans, boots, jackets, jeans, leggings. I thrift first, then go to a store for new if I can’t find what I need.

Good morning! Watching from Phoenix Arizona. My husband is from Gloversville NY and I am originally from NJ so we LOVE your accents! Makes me feel at home. 🥰 I pulled out the ingredients for the soup...its the only soup my husband will eat at Olive Garden so thanks for the recipe. 😋 I'm surprising him tonight with it for dinner. We thrift for practical items all the time! 20 years ago I was blessed to find a BRAND NEW WITH TAGS wedding dress! Apparently t hff E original owner changed her wedding theme ...can you believe it? It was stunning and I never would have been able to purchase it new. It's funny but after years of thrifting, its extremely difficult for me to pay full price for anything! Hi Emmy and Paul. I am watching you from the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii. I must say, your Goodwill store is so organized! Wow, it is so easy to find things that one might need. Those dish sets of four were a real deal to me. I thought for sure Emmy would have grabbed that vintage Pyrex; good job Emmy. I haven't been to Goodwill in about 30 years but I remember everything being everywhere and having to hunt for things. I am really proud that our adult children are frugal and almost never pay full price for anything. Our son and his wife are expecting their first child and have received almost everything the baby will need, gently used, from their friends and church members. Why go out and buy things when others are willing to give them away?

What great inventory at that Goodwill! I live in a large city and I have a hard time finding such lovely items at thrift stores. I have some that I love and go through a few at times. One of my daughters love thrift stores as well--she likes to re-purpose things. She's very creative. I do buy clothing at thrift stores and when people turn up their noses, I say, "these things look just like what's currently in my closet--worn and washed a few times". I'm nearing retirement so my home is fully furnished and I don't need new decor or kitchen items. Sometimes I buy something that is better/prettier than what I own and donate my old one. I like to give to charities that support the unhoused.

They did a documentary on the fashion industry and with fast fashion many people wear their items less than 2 times and some not all hence so many are new with tags. Also many think their clothes are being recycled back into clothes but that is often not possible, so by buying used or new preloved clothes we help the planet tremendously. I always check for stains (inside and out) on clothes and very import I always check the zip on bags and trousers sometimes it is only when you sit down with pants, you realize why those trousers were donated. Ceramics with crazing and chips I stay away from and not all electrics show faults immediately so test a few times first. Generally though 80% of the items are great in particular vintage items, they are great gift ideas and may even be a longer term investment.

I am a seasoned thrifter of 30+ yrs. All my furniture and 95% of my clothing and kitchen ware is thrifted. Absolutely no shame 😊 I put all the saving in the bank...Lol. 2 yrs ago I thrifted a $1.00 watch out of a junk jewelry basket....turned out it is a Fendi watch worth $900. My most recent purchases this last year...I needed a "newer" couch....ended up thrifting my living room couch for $50 in mint condition that retails for $3000......and wanted a bread maker...thrifted a brand new Zojirushi Bread machine for $15 that's on Amazon for $326.00. No one should pay full price....if they don't want to.👍 I am located in Chapel Hill, NC. Enjoy your content on here!!

I have found new items at the goodwill cheap or .50 . Plus I’ve bought pans that my mom had. Also glass Pyrex 3pc mixing bowls that were brand new for less than $5.00. I refuse to buy my under garments. I’ve bought old Pyrex divided bowl three times. Gave one to my daughter and the other two I dropped at separate times and broke. My daughter buys dresses and skirts from the 50’s she loves that time period. My granddaughter loves the 60’s. Can get great deals at the charity and antique stores. Will try the soup. Love it from Olive garden

Oh Emmy.. I love love love thrifting. At least 90% of my husbands and my clothing come from thrifting. Unfortunately I've sworn off going for awhile because I do not need anything and I'm not sure I would have the willpower not to buy. LOL. Its a great place to find everyday items if you are starting a new household. My DIL got wooden curtain rods for her entire home, a bakers rack, a brand new microwave ($7.50) Curtains, dishes and so many more items for her home for a fraction of the cost of buying new. I donate alot back also. About an hour from me they have a Goodwill outlet where they take things that didn't sell in the stores and dump them in big bins. I have never been but I heard you can purchase things for like 99 cents each. Our local Goodwill has raised prices so the bargins are not that good. We have a few smaller thrift stores also that have better bargins but not as much selection. Part of the fun is the hunt for the bargin.

I *always* look for used first :). Reminder that you can also get great deals on FB Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, etc. Also Poshmark and ThredUP are great online sources for used clothing. Our puppy is coming home in a couple of weeks and we've gotten virtually everything for his care (playpen, crate, leash, harnesses, bowls, gently used toys, blankets, even a full box of brand new puppy pads) USED. So while the puppy's not frugal LOL, at least we've saved on all of the other things! Thanks for the video and the recipe!!

I volunteer in a charity shop, the UK equivalent of your thrift store and I'm always surprised by the number of items donated new with tags. Thanks for another great recipe! Watching from Isle of Wight, uk.

That Goodwill store was so much cleaner and more organized than the last one I was in. We have a newer, bigger Goodwill store in town now that I will check out. It would be a pleasure to shop there. The soup looks delicious and made me hungry. Thank you for making simple, frugal living so much fun. Bye from Southwestern Iowa.

If you add a tablespoon of melted butter to your milk it is a pretty good replacement for heavy cream.

Hello from Maine! I love shopping at my local Good Will and Salvation Army stores! It's good for the planet as well as the pocket book! I adore kale and am quite certain I can "veganize" that recipe! I bet it would be fabulous in the Instant pot!

My family loves zuppa toscana. I put coconut milk in it instead of cream or milk because some if us have a dairy allergy. You can barely notice the difference!
