We saw the local drive in theater was having a dusk to dawn movie event. It was such a nice evening, so we took our TV and DVD player out to our gazebo. Set up some comfy chairs with blankets and watched 4 dvds that we already had and watched the movies outside til 2 a.m. We also had snacks on hand that could be used up. I can't tell you how fun that was. It did not cost us a movie entrance fee, snack fee and we didn't use any gasoline to drive anywhere.

The one thing I do that allows me to continually save money is: I tithe! Additionally today I was able to save money two ways. #1 I used a self service car wash. I live in an apt so can not wash the car at home. My car wash is normally $12. Today it was $6.50. Should be able to lower that even more with a little practice. #2 I was considering a mail order clothing purchase but even with a sale and a coupon for $20 off, the shipping would have been 25% of the order ( gasp!). I stopped by a garage sale on the way home from the car wash. My favorite style and quality of blouses/t-shirts mostly brand new with tags were $3.00 each. Bought five plus a jacket also at $3.00. Yeah! Bragging rights with my fellow frugalistas!

I have been doing intermittent fasting for almost a year now. It has saved me so much money in so many different ways! 1.) I grocery shop and eat much less! 2.) Can get back in my one and two size smaller clothes items from a few years back so didn't buy any clothes this year and 3.) Feel.so much happier and healthier so have more energy to do things for myself i used to hire others to do. And i get sick less and require less medication. It's been a wonderful blessing to me to learn a healthy, inexpensive lifestyle that is good for my physical, emotional and financial well being! 👍🍪😻 .

The Dutch pancake looked delicious. I save money by shopping lost leaders, making meal plans by using what I have in the pantry and freezers, stocking up when things are on sale, and cooking from scratch. We only eat out on birthday and anniversary and we save for those special occasions. We also grow a garden and I can the bounty that God gives us. Living within your means is not rocket science, it is all about choices. You can choose to keep up with the Jone's or you can be debt free and be happy with what you have.

You are correct, many loss leaders are ridiculous at ANY price. Example potato chips currently buy 4 bags pay $2/bag. That's $8 lost on air and health destroying food. How much popcorn can I make for $8? Name branded cookies were also a recent loss leader. But I did buy 2 of the the $1.37 five pound bag of potatoes and 3 of the $2.32 gallons of milk (can freeze them in the plastic jug).😂

I live below my means by bringing my breakfast and lunch to work daily. Almost everyone at work buys food there and spends at least $20 a day!! Also meal planning for the week so that my dinners are done to avoid take out. The cost of food is so crazy now I feel that’s where we have to be so careful!! Enjoy your week off!

One huge frugal tip for us, is putting leftovers in containers we can see through!! Clear containers with lids, or putting the clear with elastic band cover ups over solid containers so you can see into the bowls. I get them at Dollar Tree and there are 3 sizes and 17 total. We use the food because it is right there when you check the fridge "staring at you"😂 When I used butter dishes or cool whip bowls I was always throwing bad food out. Not anymore.💰

I made soup and cornbread for dinner.: go to frig, get five wrinkled garden tomatoes, one fourth head of cabbage chopped, one lonely ear of corn, nibbled, one large chopped onion. Place in big boiler, pour one can Swansons chicken broth, plus more water to cook down soup, salt pepper, garlic salt to taste, onion powder to taste, adobe seasonings salt. Dash of sugar, squirt of tomato paste to enhance tomatoes. Boil until done, for me that is over an hour. Oh my goodness delicious soup! Serve with buttered cornbread!

I'm a scrounger! I wanted a barn door style door to cover my laundry room opening. It's an odd measurement, so not just any door would fit. I waited and watched FB marketplace until I found some free bifold closet doors that will fit. I cook from scratch, wash clothes every two weeks and hang them out, cook in bulk and freeze in individual portions, set the thermostat a bit higher or lower depending on the season, and dress accordingly. I do a lot of reading and have joined a local gym using Silver Sneakers. And to keep myself busy, I volunteer a couple of times a month at two different organizations.

Our old car needs about $1,800 to repair it. It only has 100,000 miles on it so we decided to repair and make it go a little further. It has new tires, new transmission, new brakes and we are hoping it lasts awhile longer. Gives us time to save and see what is out there.

We always enjoy the free entertainment in our community. We look for things to do at our Sr. center, library, local town festivities and walks around our town and in nature. We also plant a garden. There is always something to do if you just peak around the corner :)

I always save the liquid from canned vegetables. We either use it in soups or casseroles to replace the water, or we pour it on top of our dogs' food. Why through out the nutrition from the vegetables? We also use peach juice from canned peaches to make jelly. The liquid from 3 regular cans of whole corn will make about 3 1/2 to 4 pints of jelly. It tastes a little like honey and apple; we call it faux apple honey jelly.

My grandmother from Switzerland was frugal! I don’t think they had a choice but she always cooked at home and my dad would boast about their Sunday dinners being a smorgasbord of their weekly left overs made into a feast ! They drove around on Sunday morning looking for wild berries, and apple drops from the farmers left over harvest ( with permission ) and my Nanny would make a fancy dessert. I tend to be a left over queen, but a lack the grace of my nanny, as she even served a cookie on a fancy china plate on Sundays.

Two words: Slow cooker. There are so many advantages. If you don’t have cooking skills, you can just dump it in and turn it on! It will do the work for you. Cooking in the summertime? A slow cooker will not heat up the kitchen and uses very little electricity. Finally, cheaper, tougher cuts of meat, turn out, tender from the slow cooker.

Always check current fashion trends on-line and at least peek at what's being displayed in stores; run way and NYC fashions can take a while to get to rural malls. Dont pay attention to "age appropriate" outside the workplace and more formal occasions. On the other hand, you might find that neon sequins are a little too much. Once you figure out what's hot turn to your closet with a fresh eye. Throw potential combinations on the bed to do what is called auditioning; once they are on the body, its called "styling". When the economy dips or people are feeling pinched, there is almost akways a layered, worn clothing, or an "it" accessory item look. Formal clothing becomes more classic in nuetral colors. In 2016 i peeked at a couple of local stores to see what was popular for jeans before heading to the thrift store after a summer roofing project. I realized that i had a gold mine sitting at home. This year, i looked on line at 2024 fashion trends for hoodies and tops in about July to discover that short and cropped hoodies that do not look new with knit tee type tops sticking out below the hoodie hem were popular .... mmm, I just so happen to already have some wardrobe items that fit the bill. Again, i think i can be fast fashion with my slow fashion wardrobe.

A pretty upscale breakfast place in the Chicago suburbs serves Dutch Babies and they charge $17.95 for them and they don’t come with any sides. I haven’t been there in years, but I remember (maybe wrongly) them always being baked with Granny Smith apple slices and cinnamon on top. Apparently they now serve them topped with butter, lemon, and powdered sugar added when they come out of the oven to make "your own special lemony syrup". Now that you know you like them, that’s two more versions for you to try!

There are a few things that I do to cut our expenses....My husband and I only have one car between us. We work from home and live on a rural property so we coordinate our journeys. I shop at the op shop and recycle our clothes that way. We also don't have a TV so we borrow DVDs from the library. There's still so much more we should be doing, but we'll get there.

I keep utilities low. I mend clothing. I try not to buy any paper products, but use cloth because it's washable, reusable. I barely drive anywhere. I go to food banks and farmers' markets. I do what I can to keep from having to hire people to do things like cleaning, yard work, etc. I can't do very much, but I do what I can. I use every service the city, county and state have for which I qualify. I negotiate, haggle, ask for discounts everywhere. I've negotiated discounts in the grocery store, mechanic's shop, clothing stores when I bought more clothing.

Here's a cheap, easy, quick version of a Scottish fav, Corned Beef Pasties: Frozen Puff pastry, cut into circles 16oz pkg frozen potatoes O'Brien 16oz pkg frozen Peas& Carrots Can of Corned Beef, cubed Cook potatoes, peas, carrots, and corned beef in skillet. Spoon mixture onto pastry rounds and seal the edges. Cut four half inch vents. Optional egg wash. Preheat oven. Bake at 375⁰F/gas mark 5 for 30 mins. Great for a work lunch, as they can be hand eaten.

We got more serious about an outdoor clothes line installation in 2020 then more serious about using it in 2022. We get a lot of rai nand damp so its a summer thing. Ive been told it costs $2 to dry a load of laundry but that was before we had the 17% and then the 24% electricity rate hike; this of course depends upon a number of fsctors. But at $2/ load, every 5 loads saves $10. I believe weve more than recouped our construction and clothes pin costs.

I can't wait for the next video especially after that teaser you put out there😂Probably the number one thing I do to save money is: I do not put anything in my dryer except sheets and one dry towel (the towel helps soak up some of the moisture) so the dryer doesn't run as long. I started hanging up my clothes to dry when I began my career in the laundry and dry cleaning industry in the 1980s. It really does help your clothes last longer and saves you money on electricity. I wash in cold water and I use my two clothes lines, . We have a garden and an herb garden dry all my herbs. Cook and bake from scratch. Save change in a jar it's painless and adds up. My husband collects brass and copper and brings it to the scrap mill. We use that Mooney fur fun activities

I always have a quick meal in my freezer when I don’t want to cook. I make a double batch of meals that freeze well. When I find a deal on ground beef I make chili,taco soup, meatloaf and taco meat I then freeze in individual portion containers. I also make fettuccine Alfredo,BBQ,and broccoli cheese soup. I also keep small frozen pizzas to have I am tired of my cooking. Eating out is only for a treat usually with a friend ,not an everyday thing. I usually get something a restaurant does better than me.

We hand wash our dishes. We got rid of the dishwasher. It uses too much water. I fix mine and my husband's lunch every night to take to work the next day. My husband fixes our fruit salad for both of us for lunch the day. It saves so much money. We also shop at Thift stores, reuse and repurpose that we can. I pressure can our food. Make my our Yogart, cook most everything from scratch, eat leftovers and make my own salad dressing. We rarely eat out and when we do we always bring 1/2 of it home for lunch the next day.

We were getting into a habit of eating out or takeout 3-4 times a week. I created a budget/expense tracker in excel a few months ago. Since then, we have been eating out only once or twice per month. I’ve been making pizza at home, crunch wrap supreme (taco bell copy cat) and lots of other great food. My husband asked me how much the pizza costs to make, I estimated around $3 per pizza, even with using the “good” “00” flour. 😊 since we like to have a drink or glass of wine or two with dinner, it really drives the bill up. I can buy a bottle of wine for the price of one glass at a restaurant.

Dead or alive, I have cooked from scratch. I have, fresh from 2 surgeries in 2022, had to cook the same evening I came home. I have a sibling I am responsible for. So I have wanted a day off believe me. Just one day to do takeout. I try to cook for at least 2 days at a time but it doesn’t work out with protein involved as its so expensive. Only if a casserole, or pasta is involved. It was possible before the coof, to go out once in a while for a break. But not anymore. Breakfast out is the price of what it cost to have a meat or fish dinner out or a rib dinner. Its just eggs and toast! I am grateful for everything. I have had a lot of unfortunate events, and chronic issues. But each day im ok, I am so grateful. I think of what I will craft, my garden, or a book I want to read, journaling, collecting recipes, watching your videos and I am content. I do not need much for happiness. The only burdens are not making ends meet financially, and my health. Everyone in 🇨🇦 except high class is not making it anymore so I am not alone. My way to save is to shop at home first. “I need an ink spray for crafting”. I know they cost $17.99 EACH for 30ml. I DIY my own using a marker and alcohol in a spray bottle and get 2x 100ml bottles for $2-$4 instead. I crave those muffins I used to buy that were buttery and with apple streusel topping. I learned to make them at home and that saved me $9 per week for 4x muffins! I make 12x muffins every 2 weeks. That was my only splurge really aside yogurt. But $9 for 4 muffins? I make waffles for several days at once. They can be frozen. That saves $8 a box of eggos. I use 2 eggs and minimal ingredients for 8 giant waffles I cut in half so 16x portions! I trim my own hair and dye it now once a year, that saved me $45 every 2-3 months for last 7 years. I will go get a nice cut one day though. I am looking to make my own shampoo/dish soap bars. Its the same recipe. That will save me even more and its natural. I need to source beef tallow to do it. That has been holding me back. Everyone can make their own soap if they wanted. Lye and tallow are the only ingredients uncommon to have. All else is in your pantry! And an emersion blender. A mold of choice even an old bread pan is fine. An old muffin tin! I dye clothes that faded. It makes them new again. I Research everything I can and try to buy things wholesale instead of retail. My wheelbarrow handle broke sadly due to all the rain. I contacted a wholesaler and I got 2 handles for less than one handle on Amazon. I will repaint and assemble my very vintage barrow to new condition. Saving me $249 plus taxes purchased new. The handles were $43.99. Amazon has them $160. It is unreasonable. Hardware stores do not carry them so you buy a new wheel barrow! Your baby dutch looked great! I have not tried making it yet nor bananas foster! they are on my to make list. Oh! I make my own mock honey. It is sooo delicious you must try it. Its called dandelion honey. It blew my mind when I started making it 2 years ago. I used to destroy these before. We now eat the greens with lemon oil and pepper. You can make it from just fruit like oranges, lemon, or extracts too, but using dandelion heads only u harvest in your yard or a field away from traffic and pesticides, is amazing. Beats any store bought syrups. And if honey is not available this is a great alternative. Honey has tripled in price here so this is the best I can do. The dandelions have a lot of benefits for your liver health, detox, antioxidents and potassium. Im allergic to everything nearly but cooked down, I have no issues with this honey. I also take blood thinners. Do not drink dandelion teas if you are on blood thinners. Or have kidney or liver issues. The honey is safe unless you are diabetic.

I attempt to bake 2 items in succession and/ or at the same time. Half of the oven cost for baking one item is in getting the oven pre-heated. Some times ill pop something in the oven after dinner comes out and then set a timer so it can bake while we are eating. We were 94F yesterday so we're not using the oven right now but come fall and winter we use the oven off-heating to reduce our heater use too.

I bought a Breville "toaster" oven. It performs better than my wall oven. I carry it outside for summer baking and then bring it back in after oven is cooled off. I also crockpot and Instapot outside in the summer. We get extreme heat May to October.

Your advice is always so wise and thought-provoking. I try to take advantage of "natural" heat and air conditiong. Closing out the sun on hot days by drawing the blinds & curtains in whatever rooms it's hitting and opening the windows later on to catch the evening breeze, sometimes with a fan in front of them. I have a situation where I now have to put a privacy fence around my property and it’s going to cost me $12,000and my car also needs work. Hi Emmy and Paul I just wanted to remind everyone that the library is a great resource to check out, I have some dry racks as well can’t have clothes line, I bought some of the wool dryer balls they help with not needing dryer sheets, I also have two little weight towels that are used to help to cut drying time down, use rags for cleaning instead of throwaway cleaning items, get a soap pump that way we don’t use to much liquid dishes detergent, and measuring spoons in the powdered dish detergent as most of us are using we too have, the same with laundry detergent small measuring cups that way we don’t use too much when doing the laundry, get a carpet sweeper that away it doesn’t use and electricity to use it and it will help keep things clean with out need to vacuum every other day. Save your vegetable scrap to make vegetables both just like saving chicken bones, time to get the extra blankets ready for the bed, broad/card game ready some of your favourite CD player ready , find a good book today read. I drink lots of water, I get haircuts from my roommate, I use my bus pass and walk, when get groceries ,save my bacon fat to cook with later

Cooking at home has saved me the most. One thing I use often when cooking at home is an electric roaster as my oven most of the time. I put a small cooling rack in the bottom and put my 13X9 on top to bake. It fits 2 loaf pans or a casserole. Usually, I don't need to preheat it because it comes to heat very quickly. Saves not heating the big oven and for me toaster ovens are too small for most jobs.

I enjoy gardening, the vegetables and fruit save on my grocery bill, and I enjoy the task. I home can, dehydrate, and freeze my harvest and also take advantage of lost leader sales that I preserve. A good attitude is everything, I try to make a game with myself to make saving money fun, for example, one game is to see how far into fall I can go before turning the heater on (I won't let my house go below a certain temperature). I enjoy nature, and every year I purchase a state park pass instead of paying by the visit. The pass pays for itself and more with the number of visits I use.

As I may have told you before, my husband is a chef and can cook almost anything! I am not bad myself having cooked for 3 boys (now young men ) for 25 years. I've made one shelf in the fridge all about leftovers. It lets my parents eat fairly independently and I can still keep an eye on what they like and what they don't like as much, then I adjust my menu planning and cooking to their preferences. It has cut down on waste. Because you know when I ask, they just say "anything you cook is fine with us".

Meal prepping is the key word for me, that helps eating economically and healthy too. Bring a snack or a drink when you are out and about. When I come home I have something nice to eat and all is good, at least starving isn't the problem then. LOL! I am happy to say that home is my center and magnet when I am out and about.
