Something I learned from a KZbin video is to reuse ziplock baggies. Just wash them out with dish soap and hot water, let them air dry and reuse as needed.

This tip is a good reminder. You can also wash aluminum foil and certain wax paper. I reuse the bags from crackers, cereals etc. Cut the seam to make them lie flat. These are thick enough to be washed and reused.

My mom bought me some flannel sheets years ago, and they are my absolute favorites! LOVE the idea of putting the sheets, etc. in a pillowcase. I'll be doing that for sure! I've already made a habit of folding the plastic bags into triangles in my kitchen drawer. We do the same thing with frozen pizzas. I get two when they're on buy one/get one free, and it works out perfectly for a quick last minute meal. Love the honesty that sometimes more cooking is just too much for "mama". I have been hanging laundry outside to dry for many years. As I get older I find it harder to lift the heavy baskets of we clothes and bend over to get them out of the basket. A few years ago we purchased a metal laundry cart. I can easily pull a load of wet clothes out and don't have to bend over to hang them up. I figure this has saved me a lot of doctor and chiropractor bills!

Since it’s May, I’ve been harvesting my strawberries and rhubarb. My neighbor has a huge rhubarb plant and allowed me to harvest it. In return, I baked him rhubarb bread, rhubarb cake, and sent him a jar of strawberry rhubarb jelly. It always pays to ask and give something back in return. In the fall another neighbor allows me to harvest apples which I turn into all types of items. I always return the kindness with a some baked goods. To those who died in service to our country, this family salutes you. We have great respect for all who have served.

I love your idea, but here in NB Canada, because of the salt used on roads, cars don't last as long. Less salt means more car accidents. More salt means less slippery conditions and safer driving conditions. I have bought good quality used cars cash and put a rust coating under them. My last car I bought was new and will be keeping it till it gives out. I am presently on year 7 with over 240 000 on it, and I am planning to keep it till my kids are too big to sit in the back or it give out. Because I bought a good rust plan protection while buying the car, it is still guaranteed for another 3 years.

I actually have done the opposite. I buy a new car and do the proper breaking in for the engine and transmission. I use high quality synthetic oil and do high end maintenance. My mommobile lasted 24 years and had 338,000 miles on it. My current vehicle is a diesel truck, which tows my RV. It, currently has 118,000 miles on it. It gets way better mileage than my gas truck did. At this rate I will be into my nineties before this one dies. I may repurpose it, to be my casket.

My newest frugal endeavor is regrowing veggie scraps. I took the root ends of a small bunch of green onions, stood them up in a jelly jar with water over the roots. Every other day I drained the water and added fresh tap water. (We have well water) These onions went crazy in my sunny kitchen window! They have grown out to nearly the full size of the original bunch in less than a week. After I use the onions, I’ll try to get another bunch from the same roots. My next experiment is to put the root end of a celery bunch into a pot of dirt to see what I can get. Frugal is fun!!

After doing that a few times I decided to save up and research what would work best for us. About 10-12 years ago (?) I waited for a really good set to go on sale (usually closer to $750) for about $200. I was delighted to be able to buy it and they still get used daily. Two additional savings tips: (1) Cleaning products. Some manufacturers want you to buy a special product to clean their items but often a simple mixture of Dawn, vinegar and water or Castile soap and water does the trick. I know these items don’t work on everything and one should research it first. (2). Insect sprays or garden sprays. I use a spray bottle of water and peppermint oil or water and peppermint Castile soap to help keep ants, flies and other annoying pests away from the house or in my garden.

More than once I have had to throw out food from my refrigerator and freezer due to multi-day power outages. Very painful but can't risk unsafe food. Since the stroke, my handwriting with my non-dominant hand is terrible, I track expenses on a spreadsheet. I am also a big fan of the ceiling and tabletop fans, all year around. My dear friend and I are both big fans of the Sally Hansen Quick Dry top coat. We get occasional pedicures at a beauty school and bring the top coat so we don't ruin our toes. And a good cup of coffee brewed at home is the way to go! Thank you, and God bless the military service people who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can be free!

Both videos have great things, I have a few things to add, well maybe quite a lot, oops: I do my own arbor work. I learned how to fell a tree as a kid and have trimmed the trees on my lot saving about $600-800 each time. I made camp fire wood from the branches and that saves money too. I taught both my boys to trim trees too so now the savings will go on long after I am able to do it. I also taught my boys how to clean the gutters and some simple gardening. If we get good Iwill get a food saver too, so thanks. I mended my own gate with tools and spare screws and this year bought an electric dethatcher on sale. It was less than hiring a company, so next year that job will be free / less manual work. I use simple supplies to repaint walls. I have the same sewing machine from 1986 and can mend many things and do sew a bit, which saves money on hemming dress pants and other simple alterations. Converting pants to shorts was useful and cheap for growing boys. I’ve also made curtains and quilts in the past and made pillow cases for camping from old sheets. I made my own all purpose cleaner and use forgotten shampoos to freshen up the bathrooms. I cook for 3 meals at a time, saves time and electricity. I use spices to make simple lower cost meals taste very good, so we have those more often and the boys eating a lot doesn’t break my grocery budget. I could also go on, but that’s a lot so stopping!😅

I used Clairol Natural Instincts before I retired. About 2 years ago, I had a professional hairdresser blend in my gray hair. At my last haircut appointment, the stylist stated all the blond is gone since I haven’t colored my hair. My hair is not totally grey but looks natural because it is. Deciding to go gray and having a professional blend in my hair was a good investment and has paid for itself since I no longer buy hair color.

We will also be placing flags on the graves of those that made the Ultimate Sacrifice as well. Saturday is our family reunion on my Moms side. We may get a chance to grill a little if the projected rain doesn’t happen. Safe blessed holiday weekend to all.

When my children were small and we were on a tight budget, I made a gift box of cookies, sweet breads and candy for family and friends. They were always a big hit. For several years I made ice candles using Dollar store tapered candles, old square milk cartons, ice chunks, crayons and blocks of wax. My sons and grandkids got to help with picking out the color of crayons. When I gave them to friends with kids, I called them the family candle, with instructions that the candle was to be lit at dinner and blown out of someone left the table to go do something else. The kids wanted to watch the candle burn so they would stay and talk to each other. The moms told me that it was the best gift. The family would actually slow down and talk when they had the candle lit.

I have used henna in my hair for 30 years. I bought a travel soft hood dryer for about $30. The henna, one box for $6, does my shoulder length hair at least 4 times. I am really gray now and the henna still works, the gray just turns out a little lighter and looks like highlights. I also cut my I own hair!!!

Hi Paul and Emmy xx. I was thinking about you both today. I did a kitchen food inventory. Followed by making from scratch a minced beef chilli with veg. I decanted two portions for the freezer and one for over the weekend after eating a portion for lunch. I then made two soda breads and a banana loaf. I just sat down with a cuppa and a slice of banana loaf, and your video was uploaded. Feeling blessed after a lovely homemade day in the kitchen. Sending hugs and blessings to you both. I can say that I agree with purchasing a good set of pans is a must. I have a set of stainless steel pans that was my grandmas that was purchased when i was a preteen...so about 40 years ago. I remember my grandparents buying them. I even have the original papers that came with the pans that included a guarantee with them. My grandparents are not longer with us, but those pans are still being used by me to this day and they are perfect. I will pass them on to my son when the time comes if he wants them.

We spent Memorial Weekend 1994 in Indianapolis. We are English, but my husband worked for Penske Racing at the time at we had a subsidised trip that weekend. I urge all your subscribers to take advantage of situations like this. It is one of my treasured memories as my husband became disabled less than 10 years later and life didn’t turn out as we planned. I don’t encourage irresponsible spending, but saving and spending to make those memories. It’s hard to think that this was 30 years ago as the memories are so vital. Even having two people being travel sick either side of me on a transatlantic flight! Being frugal allows us to afford these opportunities and they mean so much in the later stages of life. Sorry to be so long winded, but I feel this was important to share as an important point of frugality 🙏🏻

Although we do have Roku.. I would love to get rid of our cable. We only have the basic package we still pay 216.00 a month (😢) because it's the only way to have internet we need because my husband has been able to work from home since the pandemic which we love.. Praise the Lord.. We've been able to go to only 1 car and save money on gas and tolls.. But we're unable to get a cheaper internet 😣.

Call your cable company and ask for the price on the least expensive internet that is not advertised. Yes, they have unadvertised cheaper price but few people know to ask for it. If they claim they don't have one tell them that the plan your on is unsustainable for your budget and you really need to have something cheaper. Usually they will lower the price even if it's for a yr but hey it saves you money. Never hurts to ask 👍

A next door neighbour and I had a garage sale...I went over at one stage and he was giving away an outdoor glass table and 6 metal/fabric mesh chairs in fairly good condition. I rubbed them down with steel wool and repainted with a quality paint...fiddly, but they came up well. Outdoor setting for the cost of the paint! Also as a small household we often threw away left over chicken. Now I buy a medium sized chicken fresh, cut it in half, freeze one half for another time and cook the other. An electric mattress pad cover does wonders for comfort with a down turned furnace thermostat. Layering a microfiber blanket or throw next to your body and under a tighter weaved top sheet helps trap body heat next to your body. Conversely, lzher yiur blankets differently in the summer and pit that microfleece blanket on top. An old school, summer coverlet consisted of a flannel and a cotton sheet side typically sewn together around the edges and quilt ties every so often in the center. This can be done all by hand.

More great tips! I’m going to see my mom and dad over the weekend and I’m bringing a cherry crisp dessert. My mom is making steak on the grill. Yum! 😋Another tip I thought of. Before buying a specialty appliance like an instant pot or air fryer or ice cream maker, etc, see if you can borrow a friend’s, use it a few times and see if it is something you really want to invest in. So many people buy stuff they think “oh I’ll totally use this” and then it ends up going into a closet to collect dust after being used 1 or 2 times. Such a waste. So if you have a friend or family member who has the product, ask them if they’d be willing to let you try theirs and if you use and feel it is worth it, then ok, buy one. But maybe you use it and go “eh it’s not worth it for me.” And if you can’t borrow the item, ask friends who have bought one to tell you how often they use theirs, for what purposes, how much room does it take up, etc, before buying.

You know those multi-colored bamboo kitchens spoons & such selling for $8.00 to &10.00 each, I got a bunch clearance at Winco for fifty cents each. I also got a bamboo cutting board & rolling pin for the same price.

I liked this as much if not more, than the first video! That solid color, royal blue blouse looks amazing on you Emmy. As for Memorial Day weekend, thank you for acknowledging the soldiers that gave their all to protect our country! I work for Public Health, and I will be working OT on Memorial Day processing laboratory samples and data entering newborn screening cards for all of the babies born over the holiday weekend 😊

Happy Friday and Happy Memorial Day! I’ve learned a few things from KZbin like how to replace the broken mini blind slats… that my cats just can’t resist pulling apart! I inventoried my chest freezer last weekend and just finished canning blackberry/blueberry pie filling with a couple bags of frozen berries and making butternut squash soup for lunch with frozen roasted butternut squash I froze last fall. I’m making pizza for dinner with pizza dough I made and froze also. Love my freezer! 😁

I agree w/ the hair dye. It's cheaper to do your own than to spend money at the salon or to buy the hair sonic hair dye that just came out. The color cartridges are $30 which is expensive for me

Love the shout out to our military and great money saving ideas! Our household latest money saver: switching from scented cat litter to purchasing pine litter from tractor and trailer supply. Cats are fully transitioned and it has saved us a ton of money! A pine litter bag cost $5.49 and lasts at least a month or more. Also started using laundry sheets instead of liquid or powder detergent - I think we use a lot less soap by switching.

Thank you for your wonderful videos! Some time ago I invested in rechargeable batteries and I no longer buy batteries. I also purchased wool dryer balls and I have not bought dryer sheets since. Sometimes I even put 2-3 drops of lavender oil in the dryer balls if I want a scent. Thank You!
