Something I learned from a KZbin video is to reuse ziplock baggies. Just wash them out with dish soap and hot water, let them air dry and reuse as needed.

I am presently on year 7 with over 240 000 on it, and I am planning to keep it till my kids are too big to sit in the back or it give out. Two additional savings tips: (1) Cleaning products. Some manufacturers want you to buy a special product to clean their items but often a simple mixture of Dawn, vinegar and water or Castile soap and water does the trick. I know these items don’t work on everything and one should research it first. (2). Insect sprays or garden sprays. I use a spray bottle of water and peppermint oil or water and peppermint Castile soap to help keep ants, flies and other annoying pests away from the house or in my garden.

Both videos have great things, I have a few things to add, well maybe quite a lot, oops: I do my own arbor work. I learned how to fell a tree as a kid and have trimmed the trees on my lot saving about $600-800 each time. I made camp fire wood from the branches and that saves money too. I taught both my boys to trim trees too so now the savings will go on long after I am able to do it. I also taught my boys how to clean the gutters and some simple gardening. If we get good Iwill get a food saver too, so thanks. I mended my own gate with tools and spare screws and this year bought an electric dethatcher on sale. It was less than hiring a company, so next year that job will be free / less manual work. I use simple supplies to repaint walls. I have the same sewing machine from 1986 and can mend many things and do sew a bit, which saves money on hemming dress pants and other simple alterations. Converting pants to shorts was useful and cheap for growing boys. I’ve also made curtains and quilts in the past and made pillow cases for camping from old sheets. I made my own all purpose cleaner and use forgotten shampoos to freshen up the bathrooms. I cook for 3 meals at a time, saves time and electricity. I use spices to make simple lower cost meals taste very good, so we have those more often and the boys eating a lot doesn’t break my grocery budget. I could also go on, but that’s a lot so stopping!😅

Every other day I drained the water and added fresh tap water. (We have well water) These onions went crazy in my sunny kitchen window! They have grown out to nearly the full size of the original bunch in less than a week. After I use the onions, I’ll try to get another bunch from the same roots. My next experiment is to put the root end of a celery bunch into a pot of dirt to see what I can get. Frugal is fun!!

I do this too! Did you know you can halve a cheesecake recipe and bake it in a loaf pan? It serves 4-6 depending on how hungry they are ... and how much they love cheesecake! :) I only do this occasionally, and only when we have guests. Bonus: no leftovers full of unneeded calories, which most of us don't need!

Our extreme climate had us purchasing a car battery every year...they would die at the most inconvenient times, too. Now we trickle charge the car battery by using a solar panel with an accessory plug adapter. The solar panel (about 4" x 12") faces the sunniest window. We've not purchased a vehicle battery in years!

An electric mattress pad cover does wonders for comfort with a down turned furnace thermostat. Layering a microfiber blanket or throw next to your body and under a tighter weaved top sheet helps trap body heat next to your body. Conversely, lzher yiur blankets differently in the summer and pit that microfleece blanket on top. An old school, summer coverlet consisted of a flannel and a cotton sheet side typically sewn together around the edges and quilt ties every so often in the center. This can be done all by hand.

I used Clairol Natural Instincts before I retired. About 2 years ago, I had a professional hairdresser blend in my gray hair. At my last haircut appointment, the stylist stated all the blond is gone since I haven’t colored my hair. My hair is not totally grey but looks natural because it is. Deciding to go gray and having a professional blend in my hair was a good investment and has paid for itself since I no longer buy hair color.

Although we do have Roku.. I would love to get rid of our cable. We only have the basic package we still pay 216.00 a month (😢) because it's the only way to have internet we need because my husband has been able to work from home since the pandemic which we love.. Praise the Lord.. We've been able to go to only 1 car and save money on gas and tolls.. But we're unable to get a cheaper internet 😣.
@misfit76106 ай бұрын
Call your cable company and ask for the price on the least expensive internet that is not advertised. Yes, they have unadvertised cheaper price but few people know to ask for it. If they claim they don't have one tell them that the plan your on is unsustainable for your budget and you really need to have something cheaper. Usually they will lower the price even if it's for a yr but hey it saves you money. Never hurts to ask 👍

Here's another idea: have a habit such as knitting/crochet, you could save over 10,000 dollars!!! Imagine how expensive sweaters are even in fast fashion shops! They would charge you over 50 dollars for something only contains 7-8% of wool. Here in Canada, I buy pure wool or even alpaca yarn (with discount if possible), and knit or crochet while watching TV. A nice sweater with same quality as something from fancy shopping mall priced hundreds will only cost me 35-55 Canadian dollars. You could also make some nice stuff for your family and friends, they are priceless!

I’m a woman who always figures out a way to do something that needs done around here. My husband and I DIY everything using KZbin videos. The house we bought had no front walk. Ok fine, we’re pouring one. I now have a front walk with a ton of pretty little glass beads embedded in the whole length of it and people always freak out over it. My husband and I did the whole thing ourselves. I wanted lighted brick pillars out front at the end of it. Ok, I got on Facebook marketplace and found someone selling pallets of bricks for cheap. Guess what honey? We’re learning brick laying! Husband found gorgeous used lights on marketplace for $25 for both for the tops of them. They are absolutely stately, just needed a good cleaning. Carriage house three light post? Throw it in the cart, we’re installing it. Looks great. Our farmhouse didn’t have a bathroom on the bedroom level of the house. Him: it can’t be done, sorry. Me: grabs a hammer/pry bar, reciprocating saw and I gutted the walls down to the studs while he was at work, and tore out a closet to make room for a whirlpool tub. Since we have a two story, I opened a window and threw the mess out into the yard to be picked up later. He got home and was like “what the heck are you doing???” Me: tearing out walls to put in insulation and pipes for our new bathroom. Him: mouth agape. Guess who now has a lovely full bathroom on the second level of the house? Hehehe :). House needed painted, and it’s two story? I guess I have to get brave quick because I’m going to be up on a really high scaffolding. Yep, I even painted my own two story house almost always alone. My husband works six days a week so I go at a lot of stuff alone. I saw a set of pond liners and waterfalls on marketplace and I thought to myself-wouldn’t a little pond be lovely??? $45 dollars later and a LOT of digging and hauling dirt later, I have a pond with fish in it, waterfalls coming down, and an overhead rain curtain water feature that rains down a water curtain into the pond if I turn that part on. It’s now a lush jungle of tropical looking plants but in the Midwest, including banana trees and fountain grass in the back. Plants can be sourced inexpensively on marketplace from people looking to downsize or sell plant starts cheap. Instead of paying a bundle of cash from the store for those plants, we got them from some backyard seller for a fraction of the price on marketplace. He even gave us some free. People-KZbin and you can do almost anything you set your mind and work ethic to 😂

Autumn here in Australia and wherever I walk I take a bag to collect kindling for my wood fire, pine cones as fire starters and late fall fruit. Always rake autumn leaves and compost ready for spring. Pruned fruit tree branches make great support sticks for peas. Last thing at night I boil my kettle and fill the thermos for overnight or early morning drinks like a cup of tea, saves reboiling . Citrus is abundant now so making my own marmalade and giving lots away. Made pesto today with garden greens and herbs to substitute for basil, delicious. Frosty mornings here require warm slippers and cosy dressing gown, saves on heating as the afternoons are mild so no need to heat house all day. All empty rooms are closed off so keep heat in the rooms I live in. Have set up a trickle charger for my car battery to prevent it going flat in the cold weather…. A good investment!!! Most of my garden is established with growing plant cuttings , saving lots of money . Plant labels made from plastic yogurt cartons cut in strips, last forever!!

More great tips! I’m going to see my mom and dad over the weekend and I’m bringing a cherry crisp dessert. My mom is making steak on the grill. Yum! 😋Another tip I thought of. Before buying a specialty appliance like an instant pot or air fryer or ice cream maker, etc, see if you can borrow a friend’s, use it a few times and see if it is something you really want to invest in. So many people buy stuff they think “oh I’ll totally use this” and then it ends up going into a closet to collect dust after being used 1 or 2 times. Such a waste. So if you have a friend or family member who has the product, ask them if they’d be willing to let you try theirs and if you use and feel it is worth it, then ok, buy one. But maybe you use it and go “eh it’s not worth it for me.” And if you can’t borrow the item, ask friends who have bought one to tell you how often they use theirs, for what purposes, how much room does it take up, etc, before buying.
@virginialangford62576 ай бұрын

Love the shout out to our military and great money saving ideas! Our household latest money saver: switching from scented cat litter to purchasing pine litter from tractor and trailer supply. Cats are fully transitioned and it has saved us a ton of money! A pine litter bag cost $5.49 and lasts at least a month or more. Also started using laundry sheets instead of liquid or powder detergent - I think we use a lot less soap by switching.
