This is so interesting! I’ve never seen a video that shows the Maldives as a “real” place. Just videos showing the fantasy with over water villas, white sand beaches and honeymooning couples with perfect bodies enjoying a perfect vacation.

@@carolinacadabra8278 You know us, Carolina... reality not glamour all the way 😁🤗 We were so interested in seeing what the real Maldives was like, and were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices were, and at how much there was to see in the busy city island of Male and its neighbouring island, Hulhumale. It's wonderful to hear that you also enjoyed seeing this 🙏♥️

Nice video! It brought back memories of our visit to the Maldives in 2017. We had stayed in the same area with the swing and pool (at 13:36) in hotel named ''Vista Beach Retreat.'' We didn’t visit Malé back then since the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge wasn’t operational for traffic yet. Such great memories! ❤❤

Thanks Caryn. 🙏. It was so interesting to experience Malé. Different to what you would expect of the Maldives but fascinating to see. The people were friendly and helpful. The rain caught us out there and we won't forget that downpour in a hurry. It was intense! 😍

Would LOVE to find that beach swing on Hulhumalé island and chill for an entire day. 🏝️ 👍🏻 I’m fairly certain the bridge to the island was not completed during our trip to the Maldives but always willing to return. 😊 Thanks for showing Male and surroundings which most tourists to the Maldives (including myself) do not see. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, and for your very generous Buy Me A Coffee gift... you are so very kind 🙏🤗 It's so interesting to hear from you of the changes to the Maldives... apparently construction work is booming on both Male and Hulhumale, and new buildings are going up all the time! Lee's still in hospital... he was admitted last Wednesday, and they're still running tests. Travellers' diarrhoea has been completely ruled out... it's something inflammative, not infectious. I'll be posting updates as soon as we know for sure. Sending big hugs from us to you, and all the very best wishes for health and happiness. We've got this... everything will be awesome 🤗😍❤️

@@ArtHealsTheSoul We were pleasantly surprised at how affordable it was to travel independently in the Maldives. We were there in May, supposedly the monsoon season but we still had some lovely days. Hi Julie 👋 I'm writing from hospital, waiting for test results hoping to cure my long standing problem. 🙏🙏 I now record everything on a Google spreadsheet online. Too many books to carry! 😆. The budget is an average. Sometimes it's less, sometimes more depending on where we are and what we're doing. Birthdays are obviously special. 🎉 I'll certainly be celebrating when I get this health issue fixed. 🙏👍

Secondly... the daily budget is what I'm prepared to pay... Lee has a personal mission to spend less, and it resets every day 🤣 We don't tend to buy each other birthday or Christmas presents anymore, instead we'll give each other money to buy a big item, like a powerbank or to go towards a new laptop etc. As we don't have a permanent base, (or can be thought to have 3 permanent bases 😂) we've become a lot more restrained when it comes to buying things. Maldives is so expensive to fly to. Do you have a trick for low cost travel there?

@@philip5899 That's a great question. We flew from Perth, Australia to Male via KL, and then flew to Kochi, India with IndiGo. We checked prices first on Skyscanner and booked 2 months in advance. It helped that we were flying in the low season as was it was monsoon time, and the different days of the week can be more or less expensive as well.
