Amazing! Thank you for sharing this video. I have always enjoyed ABC' s "Landline". A brilliant programme over the years. Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea!

Oh man I was so pleased to see this pop up on my YT. Pomegranates are magnificent!! As for short shelf life, I've kept them in the fridge for over a month (accidentally) on occasion - no problem, tastes as fresh as you'd want. I have trouble getting poms all year round, I hope that's going to change. Majority of us Aussies have no idea about this stuff, that will change. Bring it on!!

@@jvvoid not true they have a short shelf life. Compared to most other fruits it has a very long shelf life…. The outer skin will go dry but the seeds will remain edible for months sometimes . Which other fresh fruit would keep this long ?

$80 a kilo is way too expensive. Australian industries do not know how to compete internationally.

I grew up in the outer western suburbs of Sydney, common yard trees were: Pomegranates, Persimmons, Loquats, Mandarin (that tasted like mandarins, not the tasteless ones you get now) naval oranges (we knew we had to peel the segments and not use them for juice), figs, peaches, pears. BUT the suburb had Dutch, Maltese, Italian and English migrants, we talked to each other (my mother went to night school for years to learn Italian so she could talk to the Italian migrant women). Go back there today? Nothing grows in the yards other than some flowers, no kids play in the streets, cars race up and down the streets, houses cost more than anyone can afford.

I love pomegranates and grew up eating lots of them in Pakistan , most of them produced by our trustworthy backyard tree. In England I could buy 3 big juicy and sweet Spanish Pomegranates from Aldi for £3 and eat them to my heart’s content. In Australia they are $5-6 a piece at supermarkets and just too expensive to afford. I have just planted 4 pomegranate plants in my backyard and hope I can enjoy the fruits in a few years time. Why does everything Australian produced have to be astronomically expensive?

have to import people to pick them 😂

I loved Pomegranates as a kid and still do. 💕💕 In the Wheatbelt of WA 1 family had a large tree and they shared the fruits with all the kids on our bus. Even as a child I wondered why MORE people didn't have them in their back yard. Pete N/E NSW.

Love pomegranates but there’s none around at the moment, out of season. Normally buy mine at the local fruit store for $3 -$4 each. Wouldn’t pay $80 a kilo for prepackaged. I make my own pomegranate juice which is much better than store bought juices. Can be a little fiddly though

Some parts of South Africa have pomegranate but it's not popular, we do have a few people growing the trees in their backyards , however most of the fruit is eaten by birds than people. Checkers and Spar super markets sell this fruit during some seasons but the price is a bit high. It is slowly getting noticed due to its health benefits obtained from research
