We are planning to leave our land of almost five acres to our son. It is not flat but there is a flat area at the upper part of the land that could be used for high tunnels. We will still be here until we pass away he is currently working and living in Virginia. He will be able to improve the land and live here once we pass away. I am inspired by your videos and I have told him to watch what you are doing when he can because he works 60 hours a week in the HVAC system. You are inspiring!

I don't really have the land for a high tunnel. I guess I could squeeze a 24x28 in. I do use low tunnels. I put up 5 this year. Pennsylvania weather is strange lately with a lot of warm days in March and April but it will usually throw some May frosts at you and kill your great start. I found some great low tunnel construction videos and im 2 years in to using them. This year I'm actually so much farther ahead than ever. I'm sort of in disbelief when I go and vent the tunnels after cold nights and everything was still thriving. Some tunnels are double layers, just make the outside hoops 6-12 inches longer than the inner set. We just had a frost advisory last night it hit 38° and we have 3 more mid to high 30° nights forecast before we jump straight to an overnight temp of 53°. Without using low or high tunnels we run the risk of losing most crops if we planted early.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in but up in michigan where I am I get a couple different black type spots on apples. One is a "scab" mold. It makes little black spots on the leaves but it makes little bumps of blackish/brown on the apples that look like a scab. I get it on my potatoes too if I grow in the soil. It really doesn't ruin my apples but its not pretty and you do end up cutting more off than I'd like. The other is black rot. It has a huge name in Latin that I cant remember (I need a coffee this morning lol) I do know its a big problem in our area they use horticultural oil on the orchards. I live in what used to be the middle of apple country. A few miles down the road from me are hundreds of acres of apples. It used to belong to a friends father and he taught me quite a bit on apples over the years. There is also a fungicide to keep fireblight away ive also used it on my grapes but I can't think of the name off hand I use an organic version. Its copper something. I've only an old antique applesauce apple(Gravenstien) as rabbits took out my 10 year old yellow delicious a few winters ago. Didn't realize the deep snow allowed them to climb higher into the tree and they girdled it above the rabbit collars.
