When my mom’s mom was in the nursing home, she was THE most envied person there because she had family who went out of their way to spend an hour and a half one way to come visit her every two weeks. Like almost everyone else, she had family in town that never came, and she had grandchildren who she would never have recognized because they never visited. When Mom died abruptly, and Dad and I came for our visit, she had been afraid that she’d been abandoned. My reflex exclamation was, “But you’re Grandma! OF COURSE we’re coming to visit!” And we did until she died.

I really needed this today! Visiting with family for Christmas and no matter what I do, it is never enough. My joy at spending time with my kids and grandkids was overshadowed by my mother and sisters. They derive their joy by making me feel irrelevant and unwelcome. I’m going to remember your words and keep the Lord close in my heart! Today is the last event and then we can begin our long trek home. Wish me luck!

Lost my favorite Tchaikovsky cds, but played Christmas music yesterday as I hung drapes and installed faucets. (I'm also building a homestead from vacant land, at the age of 68, it's very hard at this age.) The joy of being blessed with Jesus at the center of it. I know about grief and its hard to have lost a son at 28. Try to find joy where I can in Christ and the season.

I have to share my joy. This just happened on October 5th of this year. I have been praying for my father to find Jesus before he passed away. So my dad was moved to hospice the end of September. His vitals were that of a person who was going to pass very soon. So the family had all left for the night. I stayed a bit longer and was giving my dad a comfort massage He took hold of my hand as if to say it’s going to be ok. At 3 am in the morning we got the call and the nurses told us his last words was “Praise you Holy Spirit! Thank you Lord Jesus! You are my King. Thank you oh Holy God for your Mercy! My dad could not speak when we left him. The nurses ran to him when they heard his clear shouting words. He closed his eyes and it was as if he’d met Jesus face to face. He was 96. It took a while but God answered my prayer and I am overwhelmed with Joy I know where my dad is. Jesus and the Holy Spirit lead him home. My heart is consumed with joy and love of Jesus. Praise Him!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Danny and Wanda. This year was a rough year last March I found out I had an ascending aorta aneurysm. It was already a 5.1. The Lord worked very hard to expose it because I didn't know I had it. They repaired the aneurysm in June. Everything is healed up pretty good. I have an upholstery shop and now the Lord has blessed me with an abundance of work for the new year. God is good.

Danny, I totally agree with you! I would also add to please let others know it's okay to grieve a lifetime if we grieve as those who have HOPE! For example, as a child of God, I grieve/groan within to be present with the Father. If we have unending love for someone who is no longer physically present with us, it is very similar if not the same. Love never ends! Yes, I have experience, I have 2 beautiful children in heaven. I have a beloved husband and 1 adult child in heaven She was 20 My husband was only 25 I have deeply grieved my husband in periods for 34 yrs. The first decade was truly awful. The last 5 yrs have been strong grief again. I’m just tired of grief.

@YeshuaKingMessiah I truly understand the grief/pain. We grieve as those who have HOPE. If you know the Father, he will take horrible things and bring about good. I know that I will see my 24 year old daughter Naomi and my 1½ day old son Paul again in my flesh. God is good all the time. I don't always understand or like what happens, but I trust God!

Thank you for sharing. I was taught as a child the acrostic for JOY is Jesus, Others, Yourself. If and when I remember this my life makes sense and worth.
