Even if some do raise their hands (as Clement claims, usually about ten people do), I would bet that those people are simply mistaken about the fruit being the cause of their weight gain. I've had many tell me "I used to eat a lot of fruit until it started making me gain weight", but these are people I see regularly eating junk food and animal products. Never, ever trust anecdotal evidence like that. People may say "I ate a lot of fruit" and mean they had a few apples and a cup of peaches in syrup each week. I eat fruit ad libitum and when I was still trying to lose weight, the more I ate, the more weight I lost. Now that I'm a healthy weight, maintaining my weight is easier than ever with fruit. It is about as far from being an obesogen as is possible.

A point that never seems to get mentioned is that most of our commercial fruit is force ripened with gas. So the fruits contain immature acids which are unhealthy and have a de-calcifying effect in the body. Does Brian even listen? ( around 17 mins in with the large lecture on PET scans and using sugar as the trace) Davis already stated earlier that if one does have cancer already that they should reduce and carefully watch their carb intake, even from fruits, but if you don't already have a cancer diagnosis, eating fruit is not the issue. Brian is arguing against nothing and he is trying really hard to make sure that people make the false connection about carbs. Everyone already agreed that cancer cells love the sugars so restating it over and over has nothing to do with lots of fruit being bad for you. His argument reminds me of when people hammer on carbs because of diabetes (type 2). Yes, too much sugar is a bad thing when you already have it but this ignores the fact that insulin resistance comes from the cells being filled with too much lipids and not enough room to accept the sugars that the insulin is trying to push into the cells, thus insulin resistant. The carbs are not causal but they can become a problem once the disease starts. Same with cancer. High carb diets (from whole foods) is not going to cause cancers but if you have a cancer you need to change what you fuel with and there are plenty of ways to still be whole food plant based and be low carb or even keto until a cancer is beaten like a red-headed step child.
@vit_armin3 жыл бұрын
not really.. fruit is great for healing typ2 (almost all fruits have a low glycemic index/load). its like you stated before, the fat intake is the problem. go low on fat and high on fruit and diabetes will propably vanish

I understand clements position but he has some flaws. He states about fruit having 30 times more sugar than the originals. Well yeah because the originals had almost no calories and you would starve to death eating them. He is also right about the fruit needing to be ripe so choose local or else get fruit that ripens after being picked. Also he is right that if you have cancer it is ideal to limit fruit consumption and focus on more low carb plant foods. But if you do not have cancer eating a good amount of fresh fruit will be fine.

I love Garth and don’t want to be bias as Clements seems over the top. But Garth has a good point. Look at vegans. Or the ones who eat ten bananas a day then fruit all day. They actually are almost too thin... the more fruit I eat the thinner I become I’ve noticed. He also said he can’t find one study showing fruit makes you fat.

It seems logical to me that fruits are healthy, since our tastebuds find their taste pleasant.

ok, so sugar feeds cancer. if I have cancer I should avoid fruit which would otherwise prevent cancer from happening in the first place with the high anti oxidant content. This seems complicated. If I have cancer how do I know the anti oxidants in berries would not far overshadow the sugar content and kill the cancer anyway ? There are 2 key variables working at the same time - sugar and anti oxidants. Studies would have to be done to work this out.

from what I observe most people eating, if they turn to smoothies their health would improve dramatically.

This discussion is done in a very unaccurate fashion: Fruit very widely among themselves, we can go from avocados to apples and dates(which have for instance a very low glycemic index). Potato was an higher glycemic index than most of the fruit...is there something specially bad about fructose? A higher glycemic index would promote an higher "warburg effect"? There is not much of a theory framework being clearly exposed

Ok folks, listen. I switched to a, say, 90% fruitarian diet (100% vegan) around September/October 2017 for 3 full weeks. I am not kidding, I ate like average 25 bananas a day (which I did for 2 months straight, even after resuming consumption of meat, dairy etc..), 6/8 apples, 6 kiwis, 4-8 grapefruits and whatever else I felt like depending on the day. I'd have a big meal of spuds and veg in the early evening. I had fruit coming out my ears. In about 1-2 weeks I lost, I'm guessing, about 7 maybe 10 kilos of weight. I ended up just above 60 kilo. My family were concerned. Colleagues gave advice. Yet, I NEVER felt so AMAZING. It was an experience of a lifetime. I could feel my body breathe a sigh of relief. As I withdrew (yes, withdrew) from the shite in my system I had a spiritual experience. I gained a new set of eyes. I had emotional turbulence the second week, and then BOOM... serenity. I could see everyone's lethargy, exhaustion, depression, anxiety, mobile phone addiction etc... I lost my job and immediately gave up the venture as that is how I am... Quite dependant on routine. I let myself go. In summary, fruit is glorious. Add other foods to maintain weight. Follow your heart, digestive system, head... Ignore this botoxed, dickface-goatee McPlug-Noggin .... I will get back on the horse now after seeing this video. Peace.

Katie Pecotich a lot of fruitarians cured their cancer on whole raw fruit diets. At the same time a lot of studies shows that the vast majority of cancers thrives on sugars. Contreversial topic.

Frédéric L. Haentjens All (or atleast most) of the cells thrive on sugars so when you try to deprive cancer of sugars, you deprive your body. Fasting might still be good if you have cancer. Checkout Robert Morse for more information.

You may also check the work of Dr. Valter Longo who advocates a fast-mimicking diet to fight cancer. He does include some fruit though. On the other hand there is the work of Dr. Willian Li on angiogenesis, and he claims that whole plant foods, including fruits, seem to be protective and inhibit vessel formation in cancerous lesions. We should clearly differentiate sugars (in its refined form) from sugas within the context of fruits (and complex carbs). Sugar in fruits comes with fiber (which delays its absorption and blunts insulin response), phytonutrients, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, etc...

Pam Popper got it right. Potatoes and grains as your main source of calories, then vegetables, then some fruit. Nothing wrong with fruit, it's a healthy addition to the diet and I know some people eat a ton of it and seem to do well but it's not ideal. The human being is a starchivore, not a frugivore. Also, this is anecdotal but if I try to fuel a workout with bananas or oranges my energy crashes about halfway through, whereas if I fuel up on corn or brown rice beforehand I'm golden the whole time.

" The human being is a starchivore, not a frugivore" source? "if I try to fuel a workout with bananas or oranges my energy crashes about halfway through," whole oranges? same amount of calories? I doubt it

johnny roe sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2015/08/10/starchy-carbs--not-a-paleo-diet--advanced-the-human-race.html Here is that source you asked for. I could give you plenty of others. We humans have way more copies of amylase in our saliva than just about any other animal which is an enzyme that helps us break down starch. We are starch burning machines. Also if you look at any large civilization that humans built they were always built with some staple starch as their major source of calories--no exception. And yes, an equivalent amount of calories worth of bananas don't seem to fuel me as well as corn, rice, or potatoes. Again, that's anecdotal, but it makes sense when you consider that fruit is simple sugar whereas starch is complex so gives more "time released" energy. Look at endurance athletes--they generally load up with starches, not fruit, before a big event. Nothing wrong with fruit. It tastes good, it adds some variety to the diet and it's perfectly healthy, but it shouldn't be the center of your diet. Starch is king.
@johnnyroe80536 жыл бұрын
"but it makes sense when you consider that fruit is simple sugar whereas starch is complex so gives more "time released" energy" fruits usually are pretty slow diggesting, just like whole starches.. not only because they are full of fiber but also other plant compounds that slow digestion... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXmoe3hsfpKMopY so your personal experience is placebo Anyway thanks for the source
@johnnyroe80536 жыл бұрын
"Look at endurance athletes--they generally load up with starches" correct me if Im wrong but they are eating refined sources of starches?
@FreshwaterSquid776 жыл бұрын
johnny roe Well I wouldn't call it a placebo because when I tried using fruit I expected it to be a good energy source for my workouts. A placebo is something that works because you expect it to work. It is an anecdote, however, and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's definitely my experience. The fiber in fruit does slow down digestion but fruit still does digest faster that whole starches. As for your question about athletes using refined carbs, I don't know about that. I know that the Kenyan marathon runners eat cornmeal mush as their main fuel which is unrefined.

i can imagine that juicy sugar will feed a cancer that sits in the gut lining. but if you want to starve a cancer that is deeper in the body and if fruit sugar (fructose?) is taken in the same as fat (what does that mean? they both don't require insulin sensitivity? probably) then how are you going to starve your cancer from the fat that exists abundantly, especially when you under eat because you avoid energy/sugar-dense foods? and would ketosis or coconut fat not feed insulin resistant brain tumors just the same as fruit sugar might feed insulin resistant cells? could the observed explosive growth of cancer (that is not a gut lining cancer) not also be related to the overfilling of the liver, the cells, the blood with any kind of fuel, in other words might it be a problem of overeating per time window? i mean, i can imagine that cells have to compete for fuel and that healthy cells would win the competition, unless fuel exists in excess, in a time window. people can easily experience fuel excess at one time of the day and loose weight at the end of the day. omad is so popular. i believe no meal should exceed the size of the liver which i estimate to be around 600 to 800kcal. and i believe the next hunger comes when the liver is rather empty. (on healthy diets without food addictions)
