Akito doesn't deserve the happy ending she got. Look at the damage she caused to many people, innocent people that's not even a zodiac. Hatori, Kureno, Yuki, Kyo, Rin, Kisa, Momiji, Haru, and many others lives were ruined because of her.

One of the major themes of Fruits Basket is growth and change. Was Akito a terrible person for years? Did she cause a lot of pain and suffering? Yes, most definitely. But in the end, she decided to move on with her life instead of fighting tooth-n-nail for things to stay the same. And she allowed the members of the Zodiac to do the same. (Also, let's be honest; the Sohma family was probably hella toxic long before she was born.) Life isn't so much a checks-n-balance system. It's whatever you make of it. That's what makes it beautiful and terrifying.

@@jennygurung4545 And that's totally fair 😌 Do I love Akito? Heck no, but she was a wonderfully complex character to read about. It actually reminds me of this interview I saw about a former drug addict. He said that he loved and appreciated the people who stuck around as he was going through rehab, but he also wasn't angry at the people who left. He understood that he wasn't a very good person at the time, and the people that left had every right to protect themselves from him. That's the other thing about life. Everyone has the potential to change and grow into better people, but you don't have to stick around if it's hurting you in some way; physically, mentally, or emotionally.

You should definitely check out this scene, as well as Momiji scene from the 2001 version. The background music really amplifies the emotion to its peak; it’s a masterpiece to me. I cry every time I rewatch it. While this version is stunning in terms of animation, it lacks the emotional depth of the original.
