Who would ever say "west in Berlin"? I mean, people say "South London" all the time, and the city isn't exactly divided. Also, all of Berlin (including West Berlin) was in East Germany; the division of the city was geographically (though not politically, of course) independent of the division of the country.

Do you mean the Swiss play from ABoFaL? I go along with you so far as Stephen may have a little clue what he is saying (he's the one who learnt the whole old languages canon at school). But I still think when it comes to pronunciation, Hugh can pronounce the sounds I mentioned above better and in the Swiss play, although Hugh messed up on the verb riechen, his sentence structure was by far harder than Stephen's.

That guy's really got a knack for languages! I know Stephen's got German ancestry, but it's Hugh who's perfect at pronunciation. His "Ernst Schlesser" couldn't be any better: great r-sound, sharp s, and l not pronounced from the throat. And he didn't say Ernst like a Brit would pronounce the Er- in Ernest.
