Good video and of course I have a few thoughts... 1) Set up costs favor logging as you need less equipment especially if you use the train for transport. [Advantage: logging] 2) There is no reason to stockpile logs for any length of time as the sale price is fixed. In fact, nobody wants to stockpile anything, but at times are forced to in order to wait for a better price. So it's true you can stockpile chips when you must, but unless you are doing a pile on the ground (which brings up a whole new set of challenges), you have to pay for that storage. [Advantage: logging] 3) I heard someone state they noticed a difference in the amount of woodchips per tree varies depending upon the tipper used. I couldn't confirm that in my game but what you saw does tend to support that. You lost what... about 2k liters per tree (which is not insignificant) on the larger tipper compared to the first load. If it turns out that smaller tippers provide better yield, that's another strike against chipping. If it is not the size of the tipper, then we have another unknown variable at play affecting woodchip profits. For logging, there is no variable unless you consider cutting to length by hand (or chainsaw). [Advantage: logging] So if one were looking simply at profit over time, I think there is no question that logging is the better option. But that being said, I find it nice that both are an option and you can choose whichever you enjoy more at the moment.

+ManCave2010 yep, all good points. That's why I'll likely stick with logging moving forward.

Ever wondered why in a single player game when backing up the Scorpion King you get that annoying warning beep yet you can jump in the woodchipper while it's on and start hacking up logs with a chainsaw and that's OK? :)

So... playing for a bit on Pine Cove Valley I find that stockpiling *some* logs is handy for those timber processing facilities. Especially when clearing out non-fir trees around the farm, I drop the tree trunks (that the sawmill doesn't pay much for) off near the pallet/table/whatever making places. Of course, I could always go cut down a few trees when the facilities run low but I like just having 6 or 12 big nearby works well. So outside of Goldcrest Valley, there actually is a reason to "stockpile" some logs. I look forward to seeing you get into some of those processing facilities on Pleasant Valley and see how you do it.

a more top-down view helps the lag. In the vehicles look down at the floor and have enough window to see the road, full speed with no screen tearing.

I believe that the logging is very expensive and complicated, while on chips it is pretty easy to load while logs are very hard to load, unless you have auto load trailers on his vid, so it is kinda complicated when it comes to logging, and the equipment is outrageously expensive in my opinion, pls don't judge, just my opinion. Thank you.

Had a great demand on hard the other day with a price of $213, needless to say I did a lot of logging!

I have to say I think chips are better. Now I'm making the assumption you are also doing silage - and you get them from poplars. The same machine does both, so you're only out the cost of a different header. The whole thing can be practically completely automated making it a very good profit, indeed. If you don't own a forager... well, that's a different story. I find cutting trees to be fun, but the gathering of them annoying, and the logging equipment is prohibitively expensive.

Big logs sell for more and small for a lot less. What I do is make wood chips from the top of the tree and sell other for logs. Hmm.

I’ll simplify it wood chips are sometimes better but you don’t do as much work and logs make a little more but more work

It's a logging trailer Identical to stock with UAL...2.0? last I knew. UAL 3.0 is MUCH better so I hope it updates soon.

do U have a link for the 100,000l fliegl tipper ???? is it in a mod showcase ????? i'm more into Animal production than logging.... it would definitely help with grain transport
@KentuckyFarmer7 жыл бұрын
+james waldrup it's not in the modhub, and I'm not sure what exact site I found it in, but it's the fliegl green line, if you search for that, it will come up. Now as designed, it only holds 68k liters. I modified the XML to bump it up to 100k as I needed a larger trailer for a test I was running.

okay thanks..... I was thinking about a better way to haul corn chaff to the silo bunker..... I tried the Krone chaff trailer mod ( capacity of 300,000). running a worker in the Krone Big X.... the worker boggs down when the trailer reaches 200,000 fill level... the worker just can't get the trailer to finish a turn with that much in the trailer.... i'm pretty much just using 2 Fligel Bull 266 tippers linked together.... but with chaffing corn,, both tippers are full by the time the worker reaches the end of the second row..... so I spend a lot of time swapping out tipper sets ( I use 2 sets of 2 tippers) to let the worker fill the 2nd set in the field while I run the first set to the silage silo....

+James Waldrup Have you tried Stevie's mod for the Krampe SB60/90 tipper? It holds 120,000 liters and works great (requires a semi or a dolly).

Second! .. *rolls eyes* I think this video confirms the lag around the home farm in your let's play due to those trees, this is a very choppy recording lol. Which method do you think is more efficient without mods? I've been doing a bit of logging now since the autoloading trailer came out but before that I wouldn't touch logging because it was exasperating dealing with the physics and not worth the payout.
@KentuckyFarmer7 жыл бұрын
+Jan P so, without mods, both have a draw back. Woodchips are easier to manage and quickly capitalize on a good sale price if you have a storage mod that can fill trailers rather then using the belts. Having an auto loading trailer helps a lot with logs. The other thing to keep in mind, is that in my opinion, you can do large scale wood chip production for less initial investment than what would be required for logging. But for me, at this point it's logging FTW.

Not the highest IQ. Just savc game, cut one tree and chip it and sell it. Load the game, cut same tree and sell it as log. Compare difference
