Another helpful video, James. I find the reinforcement of these procedures very helpful. And thanks to Suzie for working with you on the video. I would have some performance anxiety if I was doing that!

Suzie did brilliantly - be sure to take a look at here POV of the flight (linked in the description).

Thank you so much for expanding my knowledge of MSFS and helping me to enjoy it more all the time. I have learned so much from your videos and love them and have seen that you respond to comments here and in Discord so I could think of no other channel I'd rather join, so I joined.

Do you know why some of the altitudes appear in white and need to be altered? Please ignore, I found the answer: Apparently, those white altitudes are calculated by the the FMS to be the altitude at which you would fly over a waypoint which has an 'above altitude' restriction. To calculate, it uses the the 'at' (or 'below') restricted waypoints either side of it i.e. it puts the aircraft on the calculated descent slope between them. When you alter the altitude to turn it Cyan, it effectively changes the 'above' waypoint to an 'at' waypoint as far as the FMS is concerned. i.e. it is telling the FMS a new restriction - whatever altitude you input- for that waypoint.

Another great tutorial. Do you have a video or instructions on how to fly an RNAV approach or departure? I’m assuming RNAV uses GPS guidance in place of a localizer and VNAV in place of a glide slope (in the case of ILS). I notice that in real-world aviation, RNAV approaches and departures have become the norm, more common than ILS. What do you think?

I touched on RNAV in one or two videos, but I'm aiming to create a more thorough video on it.

@@Huddison Thanks very much. Your channel has quickly become my go-to source for all things MSFS. You explain concepts clearly and concisely and I'm finally learning things like VNAV that previously I had a hard time grasping. Also many thanks for showing how to use the G1000 to lock on to the localizer and glideslope in ILS approaches.

Did you plan this flight in the MSFS flight plan/map page or in the G1000 itself after starting the flight? Thank you Sir.

We set this one up on the World Map: EGMC - EGKK, with EGQC as an added waypoint.

Good content - thank you! 😊👍🏻 I note you were in GPS mode until the GS diamond appeared at which point the system appeared to automatically switch LOC1 mode. Had you already tuned in the localiser or did I miss that?
@Huddison

On that kind of approach, it auto switches for you (something I was meant to mention in the video). Very clever stuff the G1000.

@@Huddison thanks - but how did the ILS frequency appear in the nav radio and how did it become the active frequency - are you saying the G1000 handled those tasks from the flight plan?

Only just come across this video. Very informative, thank you. I do have one beginner question if I may. It's about FLC. In the video I see that used flight level change to do the initial climb. I believe FLC is only used for climbing. You set the initial altitude to the target altitude of the first waypoint. That's all good. My question is, once you got to 3000 and it changed to ALT mode, what would you have had to do if ATC had then told you to climb to 4000 ft en route to the waypoint? I don't believe that simply turning the ALT knob to 4000 would have caused you to climb. Would you then have to press the FLC button again having already set your altitude? Would it then immediately climb regardless of what speed you were going?
@Huddison

From 3000 to 4000 feet altitude change, I would've used VS mode (vertical Speed). Check my other videos if you're unsure on how to use this.
