In this video, we fly the ADF approach with its usual quirks at 4F2 in Texas in the Textron G36.

These videos are great. Thank you. You also not only cover the main topic but you always pass along other little nuggets that are great all around flying knowledge. I would love for you to do a "Rules of Thumb" video to pass along. i.e. "add a zero and divide by 2"

I've been practicing these all day at UHMA and UHMD... Some mountains to the side but not too wild.. Decided to try PASV, Sparrevohn LRRS airport with some heavy cloud cover. That was an absolute blast coming out of the clouds, seeing the runway but still having to navigate the ridges in front. Got to love a plate that says, "successful go around improbable..." 😅

Great videos, and very informative. Love some the DCS and CT ref. BRISS is pretty much over my parents house. Thanks again for putting time into this.

Hi, thanks for your videos. Your latest turn was to the left to intercept the final course, so you arrived early and could not descend. Should have turned to the right. Best Regards from Brazil, thank you again.

Excellent video as always. One thing that would be very helpful is a video(s) on how to descend consistently in the various aircraft -- particularly on the landing glide slope for a given approach.

hey mate, can you confirm time 12:35 you should be making a right turn and you are doing a left turn, right?
@jeffmartin24284 жыл бұрын
If you would have turned right after your 1:00 min outbound PT instead of left, you may have been able to get down to 1000' sooner or -1000 vvi

Yup was thinking the same - at such short distances the ground distance travelled during that turn would have brought the aircraft significantly closer to the airport even before starting the descent. Not sure in real life if procedure mandates a left or right turn? Guess it depends on terrain, airspace, noise abatement etc. or maybe I am over-thinking this....
@FltSimNoob4 жыл бұрын
@@handlebard I dont think you are overthinking it, i believe he got turned around on his turns twice which led to the error. I noticed and corrected the first one, but didnt notice the second one. But I still learned from the video as i understood what he was trying to do.

These videos are really great. All business no babble. It would be nice if you were able to use navigraph charts split screened alongside the cockpit display. That way we can see the approach overlayed on the chart showing where the aircraft is during the approach and also be able to zoom in on each feature of the avionics you are using to fly the approach at any particular point during the approach.

Could you please do a video about how to fly a holding pattern? Thank you for your awesome videos!

He flies a holding pattern in one of his videos, it's at the 29 minute mark in his TBM 930 over Scotland livestream

I usually find your videos very helpful, but this was really not up to your standards. I really like the fast pace, but just a few more words from time to time on why are you doing something (2 min, 1 min). What is NDB and why says your title ADF? (Yeah I know Wikipedia, but that's not how a tutorial works) The rest was pure stress "click click click" - yeah we are way to fast - "click, click, enter, enter" - then missing the runway by a mile without an explanation. How should someone learn anything from this?

Very well explained, thanks!

do you use a hotas controller?

First error: After setting the NDB freq. one must listen to the identification morse code to be sure that it is the right radio source. Second error: You turned right instead of left when beginning the course reversal. Then I stopped watching the video. I have been a CFII for over 30 years. I had flunked any studnt who had made these mistakes!

@SimAir Flights it appears he made the same mistake.. the instructor failed.

@SimAir Flights On the heading 179 away from the NDB he flew 2 minutes and should have reached 2000 ft by then. Then he started a right turn to come to 134. He should have turned left!! He corrected himself when he got to 201 and started turning left towards 134. Further more, the real fatal error!! He turned LEFT to get to the final course!! Totally wrong. He must make a right turn from 134 to reach 359 and make the teardrop entry to final heading. That indicates to me that he have no spatial awarness whatsoever and no real knowledge of procedures. He consequently overshoot the airport he had to make a missed appr! If you are serious to get some skill in your sim. flying do NOT follow this guy!

I've noticed the little errors, and only laughed as not everybody can understand a map upside down. Hell, most cant even read a map at all these days.... Gatcomb never said he was an instructor, he's just here to hand us some basic knowledge of things that are possible in the sim.... and here you are, with your panties in a twist.... which is even funnier. Thanks Gatcomb, we got the yeast of it. ;)
@psblad26674 жыл бұрын
@@Frankestein01nl Why at all show something that is utterly wrong? Gatcomb´s videos are of very good technical quality and probably his intentions are good but he should study and learn the procedures before he post them. MS Sim is terrific for IFR training but when Mr. G is spreading totally wrong information, that pisses me off!

P Sblad it’s a consumer computer game. Do people actually get certified off MSFS?
@zzzzzipper4 жыл бұрын
I enjoy watching your videos primarily to learn how you manage MSFS but I also like your presentation style. Unfortunately, this ADF procedures video was not your best effort and I’m frankly surprised you published it. As P Sblad stated, this would have resulted in a busted check ride. I would like to see you redo this flight without the obvious turning errors which ultimately led to a poorly flown approach and diminished the value of this video to pilots eager to learn new approach procedures. Keep the shiney side up and the greasy side down!
