Best tutorial on IFR without GPS. I learned everything from your videos and i love flying like that.

Love this stuff, especially teaching traditional basics. It's cool and all that glass cockpits mean people can press a couple buttons and be up and away, but I think knowing how to do these things by dials should be a prerequisite to moving onto GPS systems and I also think it's more rewarding and more fun to use more rudimentary methods.

I'm with you. Back in my flight instruction days I had a student that didn't want a particular airplane for a cross country because it didn't have GPS. Guess which airplane he got? Pilots need to know how to navigate with the basics. I'm afraid pilots of the future will know how to work a GPS and an autopilot and declare and emergency when they lose either piece of equipment.

I love that you're hardcore and do this without the GPS map. I did an NDB Approach video doing the same thing. I love getting back to old school flying.

Greetings from Slovakia / Europe. Top videos sir and I am really enjoying it and doing step-by-step procedures here as you show us here. My grandfather was a navigator in Ilyushin, IL-62 plane and had that opportunity to even sit in a cockpit when it was still allowed back in the late 80's - early 90's. I am not a pilot or anything as now it's so expensive here and wish I could somehow have more money so that I learn in a real flight school. Anyway...following your videos I have a question. Why do we use here an altitude of 4.000 feet, when in other video you mentioned that we should fly in specific radials in odd and even altitudes? Here you say 4.000 feet, however according to heading, we should fly on odd altitude. Anything I missed here? Thank you for your reply.

Another outstanding tutorial. Thank you. edit - I have a suggestion. Maybe keep the map open so people can see the position of the aircraft in relation to the frequencies you have dialed in. Then we can see how the needles move across the guage.

Wait how does the NAV know which OBS to follow? It seems to be able to follow either but I wasn’t able to pick up how you set the nav direction. Fml.

Been watching these and learning a ton! Designing my own flight plans and following them already. I do have a question though if anyone can help. I often find that when I'm going VOR to VOR that I'll be too far away from the next VOR to pick up the signal. So what I've been doing is setting the heading to the direction of the next one until I pick up the signal. Is this correct procedure or is there a better way to do it? For instance going from AHN to DBN in Georgia I can't "see" DBN from AHN.

Is DME not working in FS2020?
@001MeKong4 жыл бұрын
Probably just the implementation on that aircraft. Procedures in jets and airliners won't make much sense without any DME. ILS/GS def needs functioning DME if I'm right
@kaloca4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it is
@joelmulder4 жыл бұрын
Works in most of the GA aircraft I've tried, but it might very well be broken in the bigger aircraft. No problems for me with either the ILS/GS or the standalone ADF/DME.

I can honestly say I have about 100 SEL hours between a 152, 172 and Piper Arrow...this game is way harder to fly than stepping back in from the rust...Its all about the views....I setup P3D to perfection within a week..this game needs a lot of work on the development side between views and flight dynamics...

I like your videos however they typically contain way too much extraneous information about things that, while the information is good to know, is incidental to what the video is trying to teach and ends up (for me) just confusing things. So In what I end up doing is watching these videos hoping to glean some useful information which is better than nothing but far from ideal. In this video like others you have produced there are probably 100 or so comments that you make about things but fail to explain the how's or why's. Example around 19:31 "if we had an extremely strong cross wind, then what would be a different experience" Well that pretty much tells me nothing, other than to consider cross winds somehow. Really this is something better left out for another video. IMO if you want to make these videos more useful keep them simple, to the point and explain in detail how, why and what your are doing. Leave out all the information about other things not related to what you are trying to teach
@aymeric1064 жыл бұрын
well that's typically why I watch those videos, not a simple jump from VOR to VOR, but all the extra information like the one your mention, or the EGT for proper mixture or whatever. Makes the video more interesting to me.
@pbshooter1004 жыл бұрын
@@aymeric106 Sounds good, it's good to hear the opinion of someone who is 100% on board with the video content.
@deanolium4 жыл бұрын
I quite like this style though. It's very conversational but it makes it actually entertaining to watch, as well as giving you a start off point for further research. Really you shouldn't be relying solely on videos for training/tuition. Instead use these to compare against what you've read up and tried yourself, and see if it gives you more avenues to look into. For instance, the SkyVector IFR maps are very interesting but there's so much more to them than you can easily put into a video. However, these videos gives an explanation of how they're used and should spark some context for when you look into the subject further.
@pbshooter1004 жыл бұрын
@@deanolium Sounds good. However I still stand on the opinion that this style is very inefficient for the viewer when it comes to learning hows and whys of doing something. It may be entertaining but for me that is not why I watch. I'm watching to learn something and while I do come away with some new information it's not near what it could be and that it is a shame as I know that he has the knowledge to share but it's wasted by the delivery style.

It's basically damned if you do, damned if you don't. If he doesn't mention the crosswind it's easier to understand for beginners, but then a bunch of armchair pilots in the comments will go: _"EeRrMm AcTuAlLy, If ThErE's CrOsSwInD uR WrOnG....."_
