Thank you for posting this. I just found bearing ball retainer pieces on my magnetic drain plug. So I’ll be removing the front cover to check the counter shaft bearing, then I’ll open up the trans to see what it looks like inside.

they are pretty easy to work on just try to keep the sycro hubs together when you pull them off. the little springs and shift dogs like to jump out and hide.

@@davewm9589 thanks I’ll do that. I have received other tips like putting parts on a dowel to keep them in order and just take it one step at a time. I’m going for it. Not intimidated at all. Just gonna take my time 🤘🏼👍🏼

Nice vids! Congratulations for the work done and thank you for sharing all this info! You mention noises and behaviours not acceptable for this gearbox. Do you have them explained in detail or recorded in other video? I watched most of your videos and was not able to find them. This would be nice to have...I own a nissan with a FS5W71C which I'm starting to think that has a faulty gearbox due to some noises during decceleration.

noises encountered seemed to come from the shifter mostly. Not entirely sure but could have been bent output shaft. The shift rods esp 3rd seemed to move, maybe from the sychro hub not turning completely true. If I was to do it again the FIRST thing to do would be to put the output shaft on some v blocks and dial indicate it for any runout. That being said I don't really have any noise from the gears themselves. If I rest my hand on the gear shift and put a tiny bit of pressure on it 90% of the problem sound goes away. I think the 5 speed B's prob have the worst shift mech of all the transmissions. My 4 speed has a much better feel, I suspect the C got its new shift mech for a reason.
