Hi Kevin, Spot focus can be accessed by pressing the menu button, selct the camera ikon, select spot focus (using the sel/push exec dial), then touch the LCD screen in the place you want focused. It should be noted that this only works in manual focus mode. If you are in auto focus, then switch to manual beforeselecting SF.

I have a Sony NEX FS700 camera but when I record an event and there is little light generates a lot of noise I do not know why
@michaelwalsh3462
@michaelwalsh3462 8 жыл бұрын
+SONIDO STATION With these cameras, noise is associated with underexposure, or parts of an exposure composition that lay outside the dynamic range of the chipset. In the FS700's case you have few solutions beyond raising the gain, which may produce more noise, lighting your scenes (which may or may not be practicle), or applying noise reduction to the images in post (as with Adobe After Effects). Theproblem resides in this cameras low bit rate (25 Mb/s). Supplemental lighting, even from an on camera light, can make all the difference.

How do you make the footage of this camcorder look cinematic? I know this is a demonstration, but I don't know anything about filmmaking. This is very informative, but why does the footage out of the fs700 look like a home movie from 1998? No offence, I'm just curious how people get that look.

Hi, Junkyjuice21, Sorry for the late response. Believe it, or not, most of what we attribute to the "cinematic look," can be achieved with composition and lighting. Use of the 16:9 aspect ratio, or even wider 2.35:1, or 2.40:1 will give footage a magical transformation. For cameras that lack this aspect ratio in their selection menu, make sure to "crop" your framing to accomodate the aspect dimensions, then mask your footage in post, to give it the Cinerama look. As for lighting, paying close attention to how the exposure is created, and supplementing an image with classic lighting shape (like "Rembrandt" lighting) will give your footage a distinctive look that says, "movie." Google "three Point Lighting" and study cinematic lighting styles. This is a large part of your problem. As for the camera, try setting all the menu options to cinema settings. Avoid the "video" settings. Shoot in S-log, and color correct in post. Don't use "baked-in" gamma from the looks menu. Shoot in the highest bit-rate the camera will go (around 100-150 Mb/s). Shoot in full HD1080/24P. Avoid recording modes like 59.97 f/s, or 29.976 f/s, or any of the 50 cycle speeds for European recording. These look more like video. Where ever possible, shoot with "longer" lenses. IOW, high "Z" numbers in the LCD menu. Longer focal lengths, with wider f-stops like 4.3 create what we call "bokeh." Bokeh refers to shallow depth of field/focus. When you place a subject against a clear background, on a wide lens, the aesthetic is "video." When the subject is placed against an out-of-focus background the look screams feature film! Lastly, shoot some stuff, and post it where you can receive useful feedback. Exhibit and critique is a large part of the creative process and can help you grow as a professional.

Hi I am a film student and I am working on a short film by using FS700, I feel nervous as a director because my director of photography is not a professional person , therefore I have no idea on how I should set up my FS700, I mainly film in a theatre which only contains strong spot lights point to the stage, some wide shot and close up shot to capture protagonist on the stage under spot light, some really weak lighting situation of the audience seat, mainly capture facial expression from audience, so may I ask what it should be the setting for that?

Hello, That is a tough question. However, it is possible to arrive at a good conclusion for you. There are no predetermined settings for this sitution. But, one thing you could do, is ask the master electrician of the theater what his light levels are. He is in charge of setting the lighting for the show, and he will give you his Lumen levels, or Foot Candle levels for the lights in the "house". With that information, you can convert mathematically to an F-stopfor your camera. Here's an easy chart: www.sekonic.com/united-states/support/evluxfootcandleconversionchart.aspx Your F-stops (EV) are along the left side. Just go down the column until you get closest to the FC's or Lumens the master electrician gave you. Another suggestion for you, and your new DP is to use an inspection monitor to evaluate each shot for brightness, framing, focus and overall quality. This monitor should be larger than your onboard, say around 20". In this way, you can observe each shot in detail, and arrive at solutions together. Remember, you do have a histogram on your camera, but if neither you nor your DP can interpret it, then the inspection monitor is the next best thing. Above all, you and your DP must work together and trust each other. If he is an aspiring professional, it will not be in his best interest to treat this lightly. He should want to do his best and deliver your vision, so guide him - tell him what you want- watch the monitor - and guide him if the results are deviating from your needs. Be patient with him and "teach" him how to please, and you will have a great collaborating partner in the future.

Hi, Live 2016! Try these steps...good luck! SETTING THE SONY FS-700 SHUTTER SPEED You can adjust and fix the shutter speed manually. You can make a moving subject look still or emphasize the movement of a moving subject by adjusting the shutter speed. 1 Set the AUTO/MANUAL switch I to MANUAL. 2 Press the SHUTTER SPEED button G to highlight the shutter speed value. Shutter speed value 3 Change the shutter speed displayed on the LCD screen by turning the SEL/PUSH EXEC dial H. The following shutter speed adjustment ranges are available: • Movie mode When selecting [60i]: 1/4 - 1/10000 (1/3 - 1/10000 when shooting with 24p) When selecting [50i]: 1/3 - 1/10000 • Photo mode ¼ - 1/4000 The denominator of the set shutter speed appears on the LCD screen. For example, [100] appears on the LCD screen when you set the shutter speed to 1/100 second. The larger the value on the LCD screen is, the faster the shutter speed is. 4 Press the SEL/PUSH EXEC dial H to lock the shutter speed. To readjust the shutter speed, repeat steps from 2
