Sometimes FSD does well on right on reds and other times not so great. So here are a few tests with our new right on red cam!

That camera looking to your left was great. Thanks for all the effort you're putting into these videos.

I'm also a beta tester in VA. In my town, many interactions are marked "no right on red" because of pedestrian accidents. Beta also can't handle this (will still try to turn). The reason "right on red" was implemented in the 1970s was to save gasoline. As EVs become dominant it probably should be eliminated because it does cause accidents.

Interesting fact! Didn’t know that. Thank you. With gas prices going the way they are, we may have to implement left on reds soon 😀

To be fair those cars seemed to be coming fairly fast. There were a few spots where it "should" have gone but I'd much rather it be more careful than risk it. I've never honked at a driver sitting at a right on red and waiting for the light. Still amazed at how far FSD has come in a year and by this time next year a lot of these issues should be more ironed out.

I agree it needs to be ultra careful. It’s more the stop and go I find interesting. The AI is giving it a “go” signal and then quickly it’s seeing something it doesn’t like. I find that interesting and curious what’s happening in that split second that’s making it change it’s mind.

@@teslajl4593 I compare it to a new teenaged driver not having the experiences to know how to time events like that without years of experience. My 17 year old daughter also starts/stops second guessing her timing often when turning right on red with heavy traffic. Her driving almost mimcs FSD perfectly sometimes and I have to laugh. On simple roads she is perfect, in roundabouts, or other out of the normal driving events she is very cautious which I'm thankful for. As a programer in 5+ languages for over 30 years I'm fascinated that the AI has advanced to this point so quickly.

Starting it right in the action might not give it the run up it needs to grasp the situation.
