FSD should have reacted sooner but the planner clearly is going to avoid hitting the truck. Glad to see the driver take over though. @12 seconds reducing playback speed to 50%

What would have happened it there were cars in the right lane? Would FSD have been proactively going slower or would it have been a rear-ender?

The problem is the vision system to get true distance from especially objects when approacihing linearly like this. The way it does it is to see the "Wall" getting wider. Very unsensitive at its nature. A common and expected Tesla issue. A 30 dollar radar solves it. Vison based AI, probably not.

@vinny9152 I don't know the Subaru system, for ADAS I guess. But you are absolutely correct in this type situation it would have helped. If you look closely there are very few objects on the visual sides of the vehicle that can serve as references. I e objects that makes an apparent lateral shift as the Tesla gets closer to the truck and in general gets more and more obscure by the angles. Separate mounted A pillar fwd cameras would have a much higher geometrical sensitivity. Apart from being doubled. It is a bit strange that when Tesla decided for vision only they opted out stereo vision forward. Although it is not easy to get the wipers to clear both upper corners. Not insolvable bot it drags along a lot of stuff. So I believe that ditching the radar threw the whole initial strategy in the bin. Its like if you come into something way into a project and something seems unnecessary or strange. And the earlier work deciding that it actually is a necessity is way back and the context forgotten. That is one reason why dictatorship is so dangerous. Also two front cameras mean you have to merge images yet again. I guess that the Subaru system you mention is not a high detail aimed resolution system and if not image recognition like seeing which way the nose points on a pedestrian is not a goal.

Not appropriate driving, but no collision would have occurred, it was clearly changing lanes. However, passing on the right is suboptimal and even illegal in many places. 2/10 maneuver, wayy too aggressive

He was also planning to take a left turn there and had to totally reroute his drive thanks to FSD. That's a major flaw of FSD imo. It should have just braked and kept him behind the truck.

you can clearly see in the visualization it was going around due to a mapping error it thought it could make a left from the other lane

If you look, the car already started changing lanes before he put his hands on the wheel. I don't know how strong the car's breaks are, but I don't think there was anything the guy could do about it.
