These little Yaesu FT-891 radios offer a lot of bang for the buck. Lots of options and useful filtering. I really like mine!

Lovely looking bug.. While I have an appreciation of them I can't for the life of me use one, just can't get my head around the technique ...ft891 is sounding really good... I may invest in one. Thanks for the video showing actual cw qso.. Most entertaining 😁

Thanks. for what is worth, way back then, I practiced for over six months before a QSO was made. The secret is to have a good working and adjusted bug. Then mimic the sound from a keyer on the bug. Think I have some videos on disassembly and adjustment. Fernando N2FQ/6

I see your Zin light is completely random and useless; mine is like this too! Does anyone know why and is there a fix so it works PROPERLY? Tks es vy 73

It would appear to be random but it flicker from the background noise or from the cw character elements. In practice, a solid light means zero beat.

Enable the ZIN LED function in the menu and it will blink in time with CW when pitch is correct (zero beat)

Yaesu FT-450D or Yaesu FT-891 better?
@N2FQ5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, never used a FT-450D so can't comment. I do have a couple of IC-7200 that will compared to the 891 soon.

Ps... Have you experienced the headphones hiss that some have reported?
@N2FQ3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have. Looking into the schematic and trying somethings in the rig, my feeling is that the volume control chip (BU250FS) does not fully mute when volume is set to its minimum. I believe a firmware will fix it. I don't use headphones and when I do, it not an issue. Fernando N2FQ/6

I have heard that headphone hiss is sometimes more noticeable on high impedance (64 ohms) phones. Try 8 ohms and see if still there. This is not brand specific.

N2FQ it’s beautiful. These videos on ft-891 are very helpful. It’s a great, inexpensive cw rig. I just got mine and set A, B and C keys to if filter, width and contour. Sounds great.
