I'm wondering, has there been any further developments on expanding the UHF/VHF TX on the FT-991A? Or finding the button combination for reverting back to EU from US? At the minute, I'm using the service menu work-around because I'm not sure what the downsides are to turning my 991A into a USA version.

After a complete reset of my FT 991 the band vhf remains blocked from 144 to 148mhz impossible to go below 144 or to rise above 148. That has the solution. Same as UHF band locked from 430 to 446. I note that the HF bands are not blocked. Thank you . 73 from F0GFI Dany

Hi Joe, this proceedure changes the 991 to American Amateur band frequency coverage. 27mhz is not an Amateur band so is not changed. However, if you look at my other video for the 991 which details operating the rig in service mode, this will enable tx at 27Mhz. 73.

@@samallenby571 Unfortunately Sam I am not aware of any other method that is easily applied without taking the rig to bits and invalidating the guarantee, this was the object of the video, to aid people who did not want to take the unit to bits. However, in the area of Q3026 there are jumpers which have a bearing on frequency coverage, no info is available from Yeasu of course, but I suspect the answer to unlocking the frequency limiting lies there, and it may be with some careful 'trial and error' a combination could be found to 'wide band' the coverage without having to go into service mode. If you feel confidant enough to 'give it a go' I would be interested to know your results. Note this is only a suggestion which would be carried out at your own risk. I would guess quite a number of people would be interested in a 'wide band' setting if you cracked it.

Why indeed, Graham, but the question of how to return to European settings has been asked by others, it is interesting that Yeasu have included this card, to date they have not been helpful in this respect, hopefully this is a change for the better, if you could make the info public it would be very useful to the knowledge pool. Hi Andy, Performing this mod limits you to transmit and receive ONLY on144-148Mhz and 430-450Mhz, LF and HF receive is unaffected. Transmit on LF and HF bands conforms to USA allocations, plus a spot frequency in the memory channels for 5.1675Mhz which should be avoided as it is an emergency channel. So American Amateur bands only. If you are authorised to use frequencies outside the Amateur allocations then you can TX anywhere between 1.800Mhz and 54Mhz using the radio in Service Mode, kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn-4n6yQrdpsZ5o. Note, If you perform this mod there is no going back to the previous settings without having to to return the transceiver to a dealer to reprogram. Hope that's of help, 73.

Hi Graham, It will work on the 991A. The one thing that will change is the Automatic Repeater Shift, you are configuring it for the American market, it is best to switch off this function in the Menu, then there is no risk of any accidental out of band transmissions. I put all the repeaters I use in memory so they have the correct shifts and tones etc. This video concerns just covering the USA VHF/UHF tx range, there is another video detailing wider tx operation of VHF/UHF and HF which does not involve making the rig American you may wish to see first on this link = kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn-4n6yQrdpsZ5o 73. Hello Jed, I have run into a problem with the latest Yaesu update which involves pressing the 14 mhz button for a few seconds to access the 5mhz band vfo. Well it seems that as the rig is now American after the mod, the 5mhz memories have now been programmed for American only so it would appear I can not use 5mhz Brit freqs any more. I was thinking that you must know the key combination to put the rig back to UK spec as you must have performed the mod more than once when you produced your video? If you recall there was a card in the box with my 991A instructing me on the key presses to make it Uk spec before using it for the first time. Well, I have looked everywhere for the card and it seems to be lost. I was wondering if you could share the key presses with me discretely please? My only other alternative would be to take the front panel off and do the full mars mod soldering the link which has been publicised.
@5-stringrebel3696 жыл бұрын
Why would you want to wideband anyway? It illegal and you’ll only work pirate stations. Don’t see the point in messing up a fine rig.
@oldcorvus6 жыл бұрын
In England transmission between 146 to 147 is allowed, so widebanding is required to transmit in this range. It is not therefore illegal.
