The "family friendly" option is actually a good idea. The FTC completely decimating smaller channels by making this a binary system isn't really fair.

The family friendly option would have kids watching, which puts it in the category 'for kids'. What needs to happen is YT verifying the data they collect is legal, regardless of where it comes from. This makes the entire content labelling thing superfluous. This is not about making YT COPPA compliant. it's a powergrab by the US government.

As if KZbin hadn't messed up bad enough, to add insult to injury they have also denied users a third option for mixed audiences. Yes, according to FTC it is possible to target a mixed audience which would be the middle ground that content creators would appreciate. But whether it is for greed or political reasons, KZbin(or should I say Google) denies you that. It's frustrating. 🤦‍♂️ If all else fails, there's still BitChute for the community.

In the past week I've seen a lot of creators specifically ones dealing in DIY or crafts (from Lego builders to toy reviewers and gamers) talking about this situation and the guidelines have been slightly adjusted since these were first announced, The blog post even mentions they understand their are gray areas now that the guidelines ignore. I actually think you have a case for saying your content *is NOT* made for kids. Why? Obviously I'm not a lawyer, but my interpretation of this mess is: it's trying to go after people using it for predatory means; ie. Someone who uploads a video specifically like "baby shark" or something similar aimed at getting views from under 13 year olds (something that by all accounts SHOULD be on the KZbin Kids app rather than KZbin Prime) and thus get KZbin to serve them commercials and plump their Adsense revenue. Sure, you make figures based on Anime and other such characters, but it's not _targeting_ kids. It's not attempting to garner views from children, and it's not your intent as is backed up by your metrics (not that it matters since the metrics cant even technically tell if your viewers are that young becaue it simply doesnt allow for those ages). So marking content as "for kids" just to protect yourself could actually have the *opposite* effect if the FTC does a sweep, even though it potentially means you loose so many features. Granted the commissioners comments were very inflammatory and could sound like they're actually trying to destroy everyday KZbinrs, but I think he was unaware how many normal peoples lives were being effected at the time or even how KZbin worked. The suggestions I've heard that make the most sense to me are: turning off the targeted ads in the advanced settings, which should then change ads to context based and reduce the information collected (even though KZbin says it will lower ad revenue when you do it, but at least you'lll still have _some_ ads), and/or focus on things like Patreon or other tip jar style methods of monetizing your work, through people that will pay you directly, and that doesn't involve youtubes methods.

Yeah the FTC has a weak case against most creators, I would be confident in proving my content is not directed to kids...in a court, with a lawyer. The problems is though that these guidelines are vague enough that could still sue a channel they want to go after, regardless of whether they win. And that would be a big headache But in reality I don't think they'd threaten legal action against channels like mine and are only going after those extreme examples. I hope that's the case yeah you're right, I don't think I'm going to declare much of my content or any as for kids. And yeah turning of targeted is certainly the answer, those ads are the only part that violate COPPA. All these other things you lose when declare as 'for kids' is KZbins doing, not the FTC's In short, I don't think I'll be affected and have to change much. The point of this video is just bring this to people's attention so the FTC knows loud and clear the results these changes will have. thanks for your comment!

The sad thing is, by youtube forcing themselves to pander more and more to kids JUST because that would drive the popularity of the site up exponentially, they drove themselves into a hope they couldn't get out of because they didnt think about it thoroughly enough, now they're forced to benefit themselves and make themselves look better by screwing over the sites users, and that sucks, because personally, I grew up with a lot of the creators I watched, they were a contributor to my childhood, and now they're all either not producing the same content, or flocking off somewhere theyll never get the same energy as they did way back when. This is ridiculous, why in the world are they doing this. They really need to reorganize better and find a different solution. I think @penguinz /the moist-critical guy or racka-racka said it best, have a content ranking scale similar to that of video games back in the day. Have a ranking for everyone of all ages then have various age suggested rankings up to mature. Granted this might not stop kids from looking up inappropriate content but it's a start in the right direction. This isn't the content creators fault and they shouldn't be suffering for it.

It would be very perfect if youtube became the definition of the operator. they are hosts of the site and they are responsible for the content, not the channel owners. this will fix youtube as they will then be charged. I think it would be cool if you went after more mature themed characters such as spawn (ie venom with an epic cape) or even your own characters inspired by existing , or not, with only adults in mind.

I do hope you fare well, I really enjoy your channel. Everything I have seen makes me think KZbin is the problem. KZbin is using the FTC as a bat to remove unprofitable channels. The new TOS allows for the deletion of unprofitable channels (from an earlier, smaller wave of KZbin is ending). Coppa does acknowledge the third option. It's KZbin that isn't utilizing it. This is getting long, sorry. There is so much that is broken with KZbin.

What kills me, is that now there’s KZbin Kids, and that a KZbin account has to be owned by someone over the age of 13, then why hurt KZbin creators? Why not upload child friendly videos to KZbin Kids, and regular KZbin, just that regular KZbin versions can have ads? This will negatively affect all creators unless all you do is curse a lot. It’s especially hurtful to the art and crafting community. I hope you’ll be able to find a way to comply with these rules that doesn’t completely screw up your channel. Your artworks and your models are amazing, and I’ve learned a lot from you myself, and have gotten very excited to try my hand at making models myself, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. So your channel just disappearing for us would hugely affect your demographic as well, and that hurts you even further by getting less views. I just hope you and other creators can find a way to get the FTC to actually make this work. I guess until then, best of luck to you.

From what I've heard, legally KZbin could put in a 3rd "general audience" option but they'd lose out on a lot of money doing so (i'm guessing in the advertising department?) and probably won't do it. I'm still not sure why they're not doing the age-gating thing yet, but i'm guessing it also has to do with advertisers. KZbin could still comply with coppa and properly protect creators, but chose to throw us under the bus instead. While I do think the law should be changed I also think that KZbin needs to change their approach to dealing with it more than anything. I'd hate to see your channel die from setting it for kids, I feel like it's pretty obvious that your videos aren't directed at them but I understand feeling scared of getting hit with this :'0 I'm hoping for the best for you and all other crafty content creators.

The reason youtube has no middle ground is so they can promote more content from television networks. Television networks that have run under FTC guidelines for decades. This is how youtube is going to clear out a lot of monetized channels, and save money. This is just a theory.
