Rei W. The importance of diamond 💍 engagement, wedding 👰, and general rings is merely sociocultural. For whatever reason, “the powers that be” want members of society to value and purchase these diamonds 💎. Meanwhile, poor women and children 👶 in various parts of world are paid so little to mine them. Unlike the diamonds that they are forced to mine, the slave miners are undervalued.

More than 36% of all diamonds you see that are real came from Russia Iraq and Israel. They don’t all come from Africa plus do you know where all that money goes to from the ones that are sold directly from Africa? They go toward schools and building homes and shelters. They only make up maybe 60% of what’s mined over a period of time. It’s not our fault that Africa is a less evolved country they don’t mind that and the fact that you do is insulting to their work.

“Alternative” is too ambiguous though. “Diamond Alternative” could include anything other than a diamond such as CZ, glass, or anything that imitates the look of a diamond but not necessarily the same make up. As opposed to something more specific like “lab-grown/cultured/synthetic,” which means it’s a real diamond, but just man-made/process is artificial and sped up.

Actually, these stones aren’t cubic zirconia- literally diamond to the atomic construction. A few years ago someone in material science figure out how to “grow” genuine diamonds with miracle of modern technology and science. It’s atomically the same thing. There was an interesting documentary about the development of the technology- I think the inventor was a father son duo in Massachusetts. As the technology became perfected the diamond monopoly got scared and has been trying to control lab diamonds production by lobbying for special labels. The diamond industry has been a monopoly that capitalized on poor countries and labor that includes slaves and children. There is no way to guarantee ethical sourcing (and they’ve tried). The monopoly doesn’t want the price of diamonds to tank with the introduction of lab grown diamonds. Labs can make a nearly infinite supply of perfect large real diamonds. They made it seem like lab created diamonds are bad or a scam without literally saying it. I’m sure the rich share holders of the media with millions invested on the diamond business is the reason why this story was told the way it was on a negative way towards lab diamonds instead of a focusing on business doing illegal practices and just how corrupted the diamond business is and how focused they are on that big profit they can make when selling YOU a diamond.

Problems with diamond: - If it's natural, you're supporting a trade that is brimmed with slave labor and malpractices - If it's lab grown, you're paying for something at a ridiculous premium, simply because all the diamond labs were bought by natural diamond companies which fixed the prices, and you end up supporting the same companies at the end - Diamonds are not that rare, unlike gold and silver. To convince the average consumer into paying more is almost a crime. It's like calling aluminum "light silver" and charge 10 times the price. A diamond drill cost $1 because diamonds are that cheap to make. - Moissanite has almost the same thermal conductivity and hardness as diamond, at 1% of the cost. Is diamond 1000% more brilliant? - To pay thousands for a lab grown diamond vs moissanite is crazy as you're not paying for the story of some rock sitting in the earth for "millions of years" anymore. By the way, your granite kitchen countertop is 1.6 to 2.7 billion years old.

I went into a jewelry store wearing a Moissanite stone and was approached by the manager who was training a new sales man. He called attention to my ring and told the new guy "this is what you have to look out for, a gal will walk in with a ring that looks like it's worth thousands". He asked if he could borrow my ring and I let him take it. He picked up a gizmo and told the new guy "this is how you test for diamonds", and did so. You should have seen the look on his face when it tested as diamond. Hilarious!

@@johnjacob688 Tbh we have no clue what the sales person said to this guy. The sales person could have been honest and then hubby just didn't want to admit to his wife that he knowingly didn't get a natural diamond. Or maybe the salesperson was being vague what the stone was, we just don't know. But what I was referencing was the term that one of the online retailers used which was written all over their site. The phrase "Diamond Alternative" seems pretty clear to me that you are not getting a natural diamond. And I personally don't think that particular dealer needs to amend their wording.

The media used the word “simulated diamond”. Very very misleading. Both mined and lab-created diamond are BOTH REAL DIAMOND. Media keep using wrong words. “Simulated diamond” meaning CZ, Moissanite...etc that looks like diamond but is not a real diamond. Please beware of the terms consumers.

Thank you .It is irritating that the media uses the term simulated and lab-grown interchangeably. Lab-grown is a diamond. Simulated is not. I really believe that major companies like De Beers wants to keep a stranglehold on the diamond industry. Diamonds aren't even rare. The media should know better.

@@alelaeduplasey9468 When you sell natural mined diamond, you also loose a lot of value unless your diamond is at 3ct and more with rare grading. Otherwise most diamond would loose its value if it's obtainable grade. If you buy lab-created diamond, you're not spending much anyway, so you don't loose that much. It's the person who sells at the retail makes the profit, try sell one privately yourself and see what you get from mind diamond.....

@@alelaeduplasey9468 It is always preference . Mined diamonds will have it's flaws . At the same time it is mined . If you are a women of means then a beautiful 2+ mined stone is a great choice . A diamond ring as such is not an investment piece . A 15 ,000.00 dollar ring that is mined would be beautiful . A lab grown diamond for 4,000.00 - 5,000.00 will give you the same stone but it will be flawless . People need to know what they are buying . So , many things effect how a mined diamond appears . @@alelaeduplasey9468 Good choice, I respect that. It really is a personal choice. Bare in mind that both mined and lab-created both don't hold value. I figured the younger generation understand they are getting a lab diamond. They all want huge diamonds at half the cost. Most of the diamonds I see the young ladies wearing would not be within reach years ago at natural diamond prices. Also, there is less “human cost” with a lab grown diamond. Which who wants suffering when it comes to their rock.. Lest we be reminded of “the hope diamond”
