Latha Baradwaj I dont think it was that unfair. Its just that the arguments they had were very silly. Before the debate even i was thinking that this guy should be given a chance. Unnecessarily his bad films were mouthed again and again. Even if he does not have an epic movie worth remembering, u cant take away the fact that he has been with the industry for 30+ years. That in itself is a rich experience of not just acting but how the industry works, back end operations etc. But by the end, I changed my opinion when he could not defend himself and gave silly silly arguments. About Arnab i agree with ur sentiments. I have noticed that he has a mind set about the direction of the debate and his own personal views as being the gospel truth. He will drive the debate only to that direction, interject when the opponent is giving a sound reply, or immediately answer with another question.

These things are very subjective. A TV debate is a very bad place to discuss subjective judgments about someone's capabilities. It is sad to see someone's life achievements being written off as junk. He may not be fit for the job but Arnab and his audience are not qualified to pass judgement on this. Arnab as usual, has already decided the outcome of the debate and if someone had any doubts, he also made it clear several times that the problem is with Gajendra and Gajendra alone. These artsy foreign film festivals are the cool kids club of the film world. We should not rate them so high as to judge a person's caliber based on whether he attends a festival. A chairman's role needs many other administrative and people skills that are orthogonal to one's acting skills. I know many a scientists who are very good at their science but would fail miserably if asked to run the institute. Then there are those "lesser scientists" whose scientific achievements are not much to speak of but can manage people, process, organisational politics very well. Even if they are not very good as scientists, they know the domain well. Their job is not to do science but to be the "roadblock remover" for other scientists.

Hear me out - this country is run by academically non qualified people now. The academically non qualified are excellent at making a lot of noise and attracting people by their loud voice and dialogue-baazi. For eg. Narendram Modi, Amit shah. These people are in turn appointing more of their type - gajendra chauhan (who says every hit film is A-grade. By his logic if sunny leone's next sleaze film is a hit, it will be classified as A-grade by the FTII chairman). I don't give a damn about the gandhis. But I think we had a good PM in manmohan Singh. But its just that he was too good a person. Academics are like that - they can't thump around like the non educated people. These non educated people were the ones who ran around playing joker in class while people like manmohan studied. I feel this country is going down to the dumps. All that Modi is doing is show and display - yoga, selfies. All this is good..but u just HOPE he is doing work too...and not just carrying out the agenda of corporate india (ambani, adani) that brought him to power. Crude oil prices were low all over the world and we had to pay high, thanks to nexus between modi and corporate india. I wish we had a 3rd front other than bjp and Congress.

Tanvi Purohit First let me be clear of my views - I think Modi is a disastrous PM and RSS is a political force much powerful than we think it is. Now coming to the point of Gajendra apoointment I see nothing wrong there. The guy is a part of film industry happen to BJP leader - not sure if you have done your homework? I agree system can be transparent but there are several appointments done at higher level without consultation everywhere. E.g New DCW chairperson is a die hard AAPian and I see nothing wrong there too. Furthermore students are there to study, get educated by their teachers. Chairman does not directly impact their studies, colledge life and skills they gain at FCII. All these so called sophisticated A listers are ganging up on Gajendra who were hiding when it came talking about Salman's judgement. Hypocrites! Latley there has been a growing trend to question every appointment by govt to which I think we have better issues to deal with. That doesn't take away from the fact that the Delhi CM should not be answerable in terms of her appointment. Coming to the point where you say it doesn't matter who's the head of an institution my dear you need to do your Homework. Go and read about the IIM/IIT Bill. There is a clear cut agenda of either privatizing premium institutes in India or bringing them under direct government control. This means the RSS can directly push their Hinduism agenda into the education system. This FTII is just a tip of the iceberg. If we don't oppose now tomorrow it will be too late. Chauhan's interview in short (he harps on it incessantly): 1) I have been a member of cintaa for 20 years as an administrator (he thinks job of chairman is to handle daily chores. wtf to that) 2) I have done 600 serials and 150 movies ( he is dumb enough to bring a list to prove this which speaks of the quality itself) 3) I have worked with top directors and producers (don't brag about it since this doesn't qualify you as an actor) 4) I have been in this industry for 34 years ( I hope that he knows counting) 5) I have been given a responsibility by the government (please come around admitting it that you asked for that from the government) 6) I will listen to problems and lets sit across the table to discuss ( man the main problem is you only) 7) I belong to be br chopra group ( now what the heck is that) I am sure he doesn't know more than half of the vocab, which arnab is using. If he did act in Mahabharata, he was not alone to do so, that were many others who are far more accomplished than him (puneet issar). And the films he mentioned had Him in blink and miss cameos ( he says as if tumko na bhool payenge was hit because of his limping armyman role and this dumb salvaged salmans career). He is not even a supporting actor but ftii chairman (really what the fuck)
