Hello, 2 years late, I am a structural engineer and I work for a Glulam manufacturer! Glulam is pound for pound stronger than steel. The beams/columns do not burn easily; in fires, the outside of the glulam will create a sort of protective char and the inside will stay relatively protected. Thus large members may continue to support a load in a fire long after an uninsulated steel member has collapsed
