I just saw this on another German channel, too. I forget his name, ATM. Edit: it was The Post Apocalyptic Inventors channel.

The Elm tree used to be an iconic part of the English landscape until what we called ‘Dutch Elm Disease’ arrived and so now Elm trees only reach the age at which the mature bark forms and then die, the latest pest is ‘Ash Die back disease’ once again a fungus moved around by beetles so we are told. The common feature with all of these things is that mankind has moved biological materials around the globe, and accidentally destroyed species by bringing them into contact with foreign pests!

Strangest thing is - we don't seem to learn from our mistakes... Thanks for your Input!

Very interesting video. We have been having a similar issue in Ontario Canada with the Emerald ash borer beetle, eats along the bark, and kills the trees. Very unfortunate but we are able to salvage the wood and use it for the most part. I work in a sawmill that specializes in salvaging trees from a city and urban environment and we get to see first hand the results of insect infestations, and monocultures in certain areas.

The pine beetle has been a huge issue too.

Wir haben es selber angeschaut im Teutobeurgerwald im vergangen Monat. Es war seht beeindruckend. Ganze Fläche, Täler sogar die entwaldet worden sind. Fast unvorstellbar.
