Thank you for the thorough lesson, this was very informative! Isn't Dr. Bronner's soap way too harsh on the bristles though? I believe its pH is around 9 or 10, which would be extremely stripping on the skin or hair. I ever remember reading about how it messed up the hair of people using it as shampoo
@LexiJong2 жыл бұрын
Sonia G actually recommends the Dr. Bronners but you need to use it diluted. I use about 1/4 of the liquid soap to 3/4 water and put it in a foaming dispenser so you really aren't using much of it at all. I wet my brushes first which makes the soap even more diluted on the brush. It is definitely way too hard straight up imo but using it this way has worked really well for me for a few years. I prefer using it over liquid brush soaps as they often seem to leave a film.

Occasionally I use a bit of nice, lightweight hair oil (like I use on my own hair) after washing my good makeup brushes & after they’ve dried. It helps keep the hairs from getting too dry, especially in the colder months when central heating tends to dry everything out (including our own skin & hair).👍😊

I love your brush series! ❤️ I didn’t know that you were supposted to use the brushes every month because they can becomes brittle, but I have noticed that on one brush that I hadn’t been using for several months. Now I know why. I’m going to start rotating my brushes more. Thanks! 😊

I am so glad that you were able to pick up something new. Please let me know how it goes. You may want to wash that one and add a touch of conditioner to rehydrate the hair shafts. When the brushes aren't being used, they start to dry out and shrink (microscopically) which is why they can start shedding as the adhesive is not as tight anymore. I don't know if it will work, but I think it is worth a shot. Good luck and please keep me updated!

Lexi, you have done such an excellent job of explaining makeup brushes, the brands, the types of brushes and the care and cleaning of the brushes. I always clean my new brushes mainly because my mind thinks of all of the handling and storage before it gets to me. You just never know... We have a similar cleansing style. I have only used liquid soaps and not any of the solid brush soaps, but I want to try them at some point. I truly appreciate this. Have an awesome weekend.

excellent advise on brush cleaning Lexi, I need to try find some Dr Bronners in NZ. I usually like to buy from Alori collection but the shipping to New Zealand is over doubled since covid. You're most welcome for the pics.

Lexi Very nice video on the importance of cleaning our brushes especially the eye brushes. I wash after every use and the face ones when needed.l use the solid soap from sephora and Yves Rocher shampoo with which hazel for delicate hair types so soft without conditioner give It a try thanks for the video enjoyed

This was so helpful! When you said “3-5 years” I almost had a heart attack... shoot these brushes are lasting me a life time! I can’t afford it any other way 😂 thanks for mentioning washing when you first receive the brushes. I did do this with them all. I always thought you didn’t need to...

Hi Lexi, don't you think a covered container (with a lid) would be better than those open containers? I think a covered container would protect the brushes from dust better. Glad you brought that up. I couldn't agree more with you about brush use (fade vs. synthetic) washing and pro use. Great tips! Have you tried MAC's brush cleaner on your eye brushes? I've been using it for years and it is amazing! It hasn't harmed my Hakuhodo or Rephr brushes at all. It doesn't leave a residue either. Don't ever spray the brush directly, spray the cloth, then clean the brush in that area.
@LexiJong4 жыл бұрын
I tried it years ago but for me it is more about what is in my head. Just knowing that there is product on there makes me feel like it isn’t clean. I had skin issues for years and it became ingrained in me to always rinse things and now it is a compulsion. You are right that a covered container is technically better but i roared through all of my brushes regularly so it isn’t necessary but i really enjoyed having my brushes in drawers before and i wish i had the space now.

Wait!! It's ridiculous!! Some of these cheap, useless synthetic brushes cost competitively to natural bristle brushes. I'm talking what you mentioned and some of the other higher end junk brushes. Stay away. Best to go elf and such and then save for natural bristles. Better to have good brushes and a step lower eyeshadow. Brushes mean everything.
@LexiJong4 жыл бұрын
I agree! Some synthetic brushes are even more expensive than nice natural hair ones (like westman atelier and they are great synthetic brushes but so not better than natural hair imo). Good brushes are the key to good makeup unless you are a very talented mua who can make anything work! 🤣
