If so, does good pumped in audio simulating ICE engines change the dynamic? Does BMW and Hyundai creating all new sounds create a new path forward to reduce that impediment to EV adoption? Or is the ICE noise thing really just an excuse for people afraid of the future?

Mazda makes some of the best cars coming from Japan. Period. Why more people don't buy them is a mystery to me. Maybe with this model and the newish CX-50 and the cool little CX-30 they will finally get the success they deserve. Maybe they'll bring back the RX-7 at some point. I can only wish.
@plmn93
@plmn93 Жыл бұрын
They don't buy them because they are not practical. This is probably the least usable interior of any midsize SUV. Cramped seating, driveshaft hump, small cargo capacity. That's why the brand new CX-90 with all its accolades can easily be found on lots while Tellurides, Highlanders, and Pilots have huge waiting lists and dealer markups. Most "journalists" who fawn over this thing have lost touch with what the market wants. Mazda seems content to remain a niche player.

Traded in a 2023 RAV4 PRIME XSE PREMIUM...It's the king...However, I like the CX-90 so far (got it yesterday). I agree with them on how the system works. I like how, in normal mode, it will go to hybrid on the interstate around 70mph. This helps you automatically preserve the EV for where it's more efficient. It does go into EV at those speeds too. It switches back and forth. You can lock it into EV by selecting EV instead of Normal at start-up. Oh, as a ND2 Miata owner, I took it out while the wife was sleeping and when to my favorite off-ramp: THE TAIL CAME LOOSE WITHOUT ESC intervention! It was STUNNING. It really does drive amazingly! Way better than our 2019 X7 (although that one was beautifully floaty on the interstate).

Did you calculate savings? It gets 25 miles on EV only and 25 mpg combined mileage on ICE. That means that one battery charge only saves at most 1 gallon of gasoline and in my area 1 gallon of gas cost less than recharging that battery with 16 Kwh. That is unless you get electric for free.
@carsbykev7037
@carsbykev7037 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for so many comments, here's what's all missing from this TOP LEVEL Car (I have the PHEV Premium Plus): -No power tilt/telescoping wheel -No Interior-matched faux suede door panel (still has contrast stitching and piping) -Nappa leather, but not Quilted -No lane tracking -No body colored wheel wells -No Driver Personalization System -No Adaptive Headlight -No rear footwell lighting -No Side Mirror reverse-tilt (they do power fold. Didn't see tilt in settings...I looked for it...Will look again) -No illuminated tailgate taillights (Turbo S only: looks better going all the way across) -No rear air conditioned seats -Smaller trunk than 6 seater (The 7 seater 3rd row tilts back, keeping you from placing a 2nd carry-on on top of another...It matters...Check my page for a video of this soon) -No automatic unlock on rear door handles -No 2nd row center console (although Mazda's site states that it does?) -No "Turning across path alert and brake" and Reverse brake support doesn't have "Pedestrian detection" according to the sight. I actually felt this system when turning right onto a road (alerted me of an oncoming car while creeping forward) That's a lot of stuff missing for $800 MORE... But my wife likes riding on solar-sourced electricity. I'm bougie, so this bothered me quite a bit. It's her car though, and it likely will do what we need nicely. And it handles great.
@djw1091994
@djw1091994 Жыл бұрын
On my Mazda 3 the side mirror reverse tilt happens when you have one of the mirrors selected on the driver door. There are no other settings for it. Just whichever mirror you have selected (as if you are going to adjust them) will be the one that tilts down in reverse. I wish they didn't punish PHEV drivers as much....not having lane tracking, a touchscreen, the premium lights, or driver personalization just for picking the hybrid power train sucks.
@carsbykev7037
@carsbykev7037 Жыл бұрын
@@djw1091994 Exactly, it's just too much important stuff... For mirrors: The car will be back soon and I'll make sure I had a direction selected. It's like that on a lot of vehicles I owned so I don't know why I didn't confirm that.
@carsbykev7037

@@djw1091994 They definitely DO NOT tilt...but the ones in the Turbo S do...Just one more missing feature. About the Cruise: It works better than my Model S Plaid's when it comes to following distance / vehicles changing lanes while another vehicle in front of them is braking / etc. The distance function is very cool. But it pains me that my $60k didn't get lane tracing, as I'm sure it's amazing. I don't need "Hands-Off", I just want "easily stay straight."

The world NEEDS Phev's with 100 miles of range if we want to turn the tables and get more total EV miles driven. Electric only is not yet up to par for families who do lots of long driving trips and then PHEV's don't give you enough range except for a one-way trip to work for most folks. I’ve driven a 2011 Mazda 3 since 2017 and it has been a great car for me. I’m proud to drive this brand and I love the stuff they’re doing today. The new CX-50 looks really nice, I don’t want an suv but I want them I make a Mazda 3 that has some of that new design, more squared off instead of rounded everything. I also work at a car wash so I see a lot of cars in person, that metallic red color that Mazda has is fucking insane. It’s rare that a red car comes through with a better red than that Mazda metallic red.

25 miles of EV range on one charge. or 25 Mpg EPA combined rating so one battery charge (15 Kwh) saves 1 gallon of gas In my area it costs $2.85 to charge that battery and one gallon of gas is $3.19 45 years to just break even on the $4,000 PHEV option cost. I also suggest watching the Car Care Nut review on the CX-90

@@Nitek09Z Some situations are better than others. I have chatted with people that have 0.11 per Kwh electric rates and $5.75 gasoline prices and it still takes 4 years to just break even on that $4,000 PHEV option. The information I provide is for people considering a CX-90 PHEV. People that already own them have made that decision and you can't change that now. The 25 miles of EV range is the typical range almost everyone on these channels have stated that they get. If you get 33 miles of EV range, I would assume that you get at least 33 mpg on gasoline so the calculation comes out the same with one electric charge saving no more than 1 gallon of gasoline. The only people who tend to get mad, like you, are people who already own a CX-90 and once they learn these facts they are reevaluating that decision.
@Nitek09Z

@@clarkkent9080 mad? Quite the opposite actually. Curious though, are you? Seems that way because you appear to strongly dislike the PHEV. So it’s not really a hybrid? It’s electric under a certain speed and then transitions to gas? They should have just mated the electric motor to the gas motor, so you’d actually have that 323 hp on tap and it’d get overall better gas mileage. If this was a true hybrid it’d probably get 35ish mpg? Could this do 100 miles of city driving with regen braking turned on?! Or would it just deplete the battery quickly and you’d be forced to use the gas engine the rest of the drive.
