Don't disagree entirely but elephant in the room question...fold the 3rd row down like most will do on the essentially otherwise identical 90?... and still have the versatility of occasional extra accommodation for a slight weight penalty. Empty nesters ourselves but still enjoy the flexibility. Has anyone actually said more cargo room on the 70?

If you want all the extra features like the dual 12.3" screens you have to move to the higher trims and they have captain's chairs. @paulh6517 is it really though? The 3 row competition from Japan and Korea have more amenities. You will find that Mazda likes to wow you with certain touches, in this case the fabric lining the dash face. But they don't have luxury touches like 4 way lumbar, extending thigh cushions, premium headliner, roof or door mounted vents, multiple ways to access the infotainment etc which are hallmarks of a luxury crossover and are available in competing mainstream crossovers that offer more space and are shorter by up to a foot.
@huehuehueh5 ай бұрын
@@paulh6517 "luxury". The Mazda CX-90, which is the CX-70, has some of the most uncomfortable seats (they're too short/narrow/feel like cardboard); hollow chintzy interior plastics that belong in a late 00's early 10s GM product; and have very gruff/unrefined powertrains. The paint also chips and scratches easily since the paint is so damn thin.

A few months ago was shopping for a smaller CUV after owning a CX9 for 7+ yrs. The CX-5 didn’t have a hybrid and the cargo capacity of that is in the smaller side. Looked at this CX-70 and PHEV is out of my price range while the base GS-L is near $50K. Found this to still be too big for a 2-row just like my CX9. Ended up going with a CRV Hybrid as that still kept the cargo capacity similar to this and my prev CX9 but with much better FE and easier to park as smaller than CX-70 or CX9!

If I recall correctly when Mazda announced the large platform series (CX60/70/80/90) it was envisioned that the CX60 and CX70 would be two rows, and the CX80 and CX90 would be three rows. The difference would be that the CX70 and CX90 would be wider versions of the CX60 and CX80 respectively. It appears that Mazda, for whatever reasons, strayed from that concept (perhaps to share more tooling between the CX70 and CX90). The question now is what, if anything, will Mazda offer in size between the CX5/CX50 and the CX70/90? Perhaps a North American version of the CX60 (maybe to replace the CX5)?

That the others are mild hybrid is barely worth mentioning as it seems like it does little beyond replacing a passel of belts, starters, alternators, etc. That's not a bad thing, but it's definitely not the "hybrid experience." There’s no maneuvering advantage, there’s no efficiency advantage, there isn’t even a real storage advantage with the CX-90’s third row folded flat. This car is still baffling. No doubt it’s a great car, but given the option, I’m choosing a CX-90.

It probably offers a bit more space as the seats, even folded, take up room. But I agree with you. This is a cx90 without a third row option, so…….offer that. I am shopping for a new SUV, I've had 2 MDX's and am leaning towards another. But the price in Canada make these Mazda's very intriguing. What would you pick CX-70 or Acura MDX? My MDX 3rd row☺ seats have always been folded down.

I think that if Mazda is reallly serious about moving upmarket they need to smooth out the suspension and steering. Luxury is not heavy steering with hard seats and ride quality.

I'm just curious, a plug-in hybrid still mainly operates on a battery right? Would battery reliability problems be the same as full EVs?

My 2021 CX 5 is also a bit jerky coming out of stop. But it's a reliable 6 speed. Besides, how often do you need to get out of a pinch between 0 and 10 MPH?

Much to recommend Mazda based on my experience of nine years with one. But the term high output, relative to my Volvo is underwhelming, compared to 455hp and 523 lb ft, and a 41 mile battery. Although this Mazda is beautifully styled.

Swing and a miss from Mazda. This should have been the same size as rdx and gv70. If you want 2 row buy a cx90 and put the rear seats down.

Hi Zack and Andrea.... Longtime viewer since your Driving TV days. I'm seriously looking at the inline 6. But I recently saw a video from a mechanic that expressed concerns with the difficulty of accessing parts of the engine without removing the drivetrain. While I know the mechanics are not something you focus on, have you heard of anything similar? Thanks.

I'd wait. I was a huge Mazda fan. I drove a Mazda 6 signature for 4 years and loved it, very satisfying. We live in a remote location and I promised my wife I'd get an AWD. So, I purchased a 2024 CX5 Signature. Very disappointed, the A pillars vibrate and rattle and the vehicle has a buzzing humming sound and later it has a whine that is most annoying to me. My Mazda 6 was very quiet and I heard no engine noises at all and that is why I purchased the CX5 with the same turbo engine...they are not the same engine. I bought a car that rattles and whines. I noticed the speakers in the CX50,70 and 90 are not in the A pillars...It's been back to the dealership twice with no positive results. I was hoping that the 6 would come back to N. America and I believe it will but not for a few years. I'm not a SUV fan....Yes, the CX5 is fun enough to drive and the interior is good not as good as the 6 but the rattles, buzzing and whines ruin the experience for me, I don't even like getting in the car and I don't want to get used to the noise...Please don't say turn up the music.

No heated steering wheel is a deal breaker for me and I live in US and up north. I love heated steering wheel and heated seats when its really cold. they keep you warm until your car can warm up and then put on the ventilated heat.

My 2012 Mazda cx9 had a catastrophic engine failure in 2019 with 100k miles. No warning, the engine block cracked by the timing belt and the antifreeze went into the engine. I had to basically dump my top of the line well taken care car because a new engine will cost about 10k at the time. After searching through the internet years later I learned about a class action law suit by people with very similar problem even with newer CX9s ,cx5 and cx7s . They claim Mazda was aware of the issue with the engine but refused to recognize their defect. I had several other recalls with other parts that were addressed by recalls but the engine failure still up in the air. My question is if they coverup the issues for so many years how can we trust Mazda going forward with their new unproven engines?. I rather take my chances with Toyota that halts production and sale of the Tundra and Lexus over engine trouble than Mazda who plays a filthy game with customers.

Wait, you’re in Palm Springs, CA, but extensively covering features, naming and pricing of Canadian Mazdas? Did the CA confuse you too much? 😏

Mazda should move the second row a little back to give more second row leg room. We need a spacious 2 row SUV. The cargo space now is a over-kill to me..

The 70 and 90 are great looking except from the back. Why no exposed exhaust? looks like a mini van from the back.

No CVT! I wish Mazda made a mid sized sedan like the Mazda 6. Remember when Mazda was going to have another division called Amati? It was supposed to be upscale.

I will never understand buying this instead of the identical CX-90. Just fold the rear seat if you want a 2-row, but you will always have 3 rows instead of 2. All other car company calls this a trim, not a different model.
@andreaspencer98135 ай бұрын
It doesn't really work that well with the CX-90 especially in Canada unless you buy the lower trims. The higher trims with the extra features get captain's chairs. If you fold down the third row, you have a 4-passenger vehicle, that doesn't work for everyone so the CX-70 would be a better on the higher trims.

Why didn’t they just make an option for the CX-90 with no third row?
