Hey Ed thanks for this video. I am a 32 year old female and have a 93 ford ranger. The fuel filter is in the same spot as your 92. I changed it at work in less than 30 mins. The longest part was trying to find my socket set. Thank you again keep the good info on your Ranger coming.

Apparently you can also relieve the pressure by finding the shrader valve on the fuel rail, cover it with a rag, and push it in with a screwdriver.

One of the best repair videos I have seen.

Thank you so much for showing all the small details some would skip over. I'm a newbie learning how to work on my ranger and simple things like how to remove connectors or pins always tie me up for a while.

I have a rustless 1990 Ranger custom cab, 2.3L 5 speed Mazda 326,321 miles with the fibreglass bed and full tube steel 6" bumpers front/back (homemade). I've had to replace the master cylinder due to no rear brakes one day. The Ranger carried 15 New railroad ties 42 miles for a breakwater job I did a couple months ago without complaint. Still on original clutch pack, too. I had to pull the JVC cassette player radio out because it quit playing, but I have belts and new volume, fader pot to put in it. Still has the original square headlights and all running lights but the brake lights were changed last year because one popped. Still change oil and filter every 3,000 miles, loses no oil between changes. Have topper with ladder racks on the bed - go anywhere, do anything truck but I think it time to change fuel filter because slowing down on hills far too much even though I still get 24 mpg mixed driving city/hiway. I have 2.5 liter naturally aspirated carburated Pinto engine built for when the 2.3 L engine blows something someday. Great truck, have had her since New. Brake change last year, too, first I've ever done since I bought her. Ranger Isn't big Kenworth I used to drive, but I like her. Has radios for civil defense here in tornado area, antennas make her look like a porcupine! Big twin VHF/UHF antennas and H-F antennas fold down for going thru woods or power wire down situations, radios mounted on roof inside cab, too. Since I retired from OTR road, been fun going fishing/camping pulling 14' boat with 25 hp air cooled outboard mud motor I built. KZbin really good for projects like that.

Great video. I already knew how to do it but I enjoy watching videos on 1990-1992 Ford Rangers. I have two Rangers. A 1990 2.9L 4x4 X cab, and a 1991 4.0 X cab 2wd. I bought the 1990 When I was in High School. It was the Ford dealerships parts department truck until I bought it in late 91. My oldest Son drives it now. He just turned 300k on the original engine and trans. The 91 Ranger we fond recently. It has 88k original miles on it. It was garaged every night of its life, and it looks brand new. Its a fully loaded XLT. My daily driver is a 2011 Ranger.

I have a 1990 ranger 2,9l XLT extended cab 4x4 5 speed. 175,xxx on the odometer. Great truck! I noticed the fuel filter looked old so i figured time to replace it! This video showed just what i needed to see!

Super easy and I actually pulled the filter(hose and all away from the frame prior to popping the tank-side fastener and hose so it can drain into a pan(that way, I wasn't directly under it(but I think you did your set up to shoot the video - thank you!). And you're absolutely right - loads of fuel in the filter and lines!

You can also remove the fuel pump relay to keep the fuel pump from running.

Just an FYI--You can use the plugs off of the new filter to plug the old filter so that the gas doesn't pour out.

One thing most people don't do.Put a date and mileage on the fuel filter Use a magic marker If you get a white oil filter Like motor Craft filters.Me i would never mess with that switch.There is Fuel rail that has a valve stem on it you can release the pressure If you still don't feel safe take the valve stem out and No pressure..The plastic clips like to brake.So go on the fuel rail

Got a question Mr Pastore. Is the rear antilock light supposed to be on while all the time? I have a 1990 Ford Ranger manual Transmission with exactly same dash speedometer setup as yours. Thank you sir. Very nice video. Quality video and audio goes along way.
@MaxPython726 жыл бұрын
Same with mine. 1 got a 92 3.0 v6 with a manual transmission as well. Mine has been on ever since my grandpa bought it in 1996. Doesn't hurt anything as far as I'm concerned.

You don't have to remove the bracket just loosen the clamp and it slides

I think our starter needs replaced but it seemed like it wasn't getting any gas
@danceswithcritters5 жыл бұрын
My 92 ford explorer not that easy. the fuel lines have steel fittings that clip over the ridge on the fuel filter tubes. you need to insert a special tool inside the fittings to retract the clips. don't bother trying it without the tool, you will damage the fittings and will need to replace them. (you can fashion your own tool).

@@rch5991 It's not funny, unless you are in the business of ripping everyone off, which is the norm in the auto industry.

@keepntherhythm10 жыл бұрын
The 1993 Ford Ranger is very similar to the 1992 Ranger. Just to be absolutely sure slide under your vehicle with a good flashlight and look at the clips that secure the hoses onto the filter. If it has the same clips you are good to go. Typically the new fuel filter comes with new clips.
