Fuel line failure!

I've gotten belittled by the "good 'ol boys" on KZbin for advocating for good fuel line and no glass filters, even when they nearly burn their own vehicles up! I check my gas lines frequently and this less than 2 year old, 150 miles on it piece of crap offshore rubber nearly burned my car down. DON'T USE THE LINE THAT COMES WITH THE FILTERS! EVER!!!!

The best rubber hose for quality and longevity in my experience was used on 1990's Japanese built vehicles. The worst is the crap from China. I have had chinese rubber hose start to degrade within 12 months of use.

Today's new gas eats rubber lines for a living. I've experienced the same thing.

Oh yeah, that’s right, the ethanol and other additives or lack of probably contributes to faster degradation of the rubber stuff, I know the Holley rubber coated gaskets tend to leak easier after sitting until they soak up some fuel, don’t remember those problems ten or fifteen years ago.

I’ve taken to putting the fuel filter right where the metal line comes off the frame to go into the fuel pump; that way I can spot it if it’s leaking but it doesn’t leak all over the engine or hot exhaust manifold. I’ve also been forced to switch to electric pumps located just off the tank because I can’t seem to find mechanical pumps or kits that will last more than a month anymore! Doesn’t seem to matter if I am using ethanol free gas or not!

Yep, have had same problems with newer fuel hose, seems like 4 years max is what it lasts, all made offshore from the box stores anyway.

It's the E5 petrol. It rot as the rubber.

I think that is supposed to be a hard line all the way from the pump to the carb.

The later cars changed the location of the filter to down by the pump and a solid line to the carb. It's a better idea but I think there may be fitment issues due to brackets and things moving around. I'll have to research it.

With an inline filter there always needs to be short pieces of rubber hose attached to it. How would you replace it otherwise?

Also inline tube has good quality lines for all this. You probably already know this.

@@1575murray not always. GM actually had a much better design here with the filter at the inlet to the quadrajets. Much safer. Other mopars of this era had the filter at the fuel pump which is much safer as a hard line runs all the way up the motor and over to the carb.

There are 4 clamps there, 2 on each end of the fuel filter.
