Fuel Pump Install 6.2 Diesel Suburban

Installed a new mechanical fuel pump on my 6.2L Diesel Suburban. Seems to have fixed my "die after idle" scenario. However I still have some surging issues at idle int he morning. I must have some air in the lines. And I still suspect my fuel filter housing.

I know this is a old post, but wanted to pass on a little info, while changing the fuel pump be sure and get pump arm under the fuel pump pushrods, if fuel pump gets mounted and pushrod is not on the pump it could knock a chunk out of the engine block at the fuel pump mounting area

I've been trying for about a year to get my 6.2 running, I've replaced the fuel lines, filter, sock in tank, and mechanical fuel pump, tomorrow I'm gonna try the hack say blade trick, I did not know the plate came off and the rod comes out

Forget the hacksaw brade. Put heavy grease on the end of the push rod. Place it up in the cam lobe. It will stay put while you put the fuel pump plate back on. Attach the fuel pump loosely with the two screws. Attach the rigid fuel line also loosely. When you begin to screw in the pump you will feel a slight pressure. Once you have the pump on then tighten the rigid line and attach the rubber line. Remove the fuel line at the filter and prime the line.

So I just changed my pump before seeing your video. Just took the old one off and put the new one on. Didn't know about the pushrod deal. Please tell me I don't have to go back to square one to remove and replace???

Thanks for the info! re you familiar with the fuel pumps that have 3 line connections? I've seen them for the HMMV and CUCV 6.2L.

The mechanical pump on any diesel are PITA to replace since they seem to be surround by other crap. One bolt was lose on my 7.3 idi causing it to have a massive oil leak. I could unthread it with my hand glad i caught it when i saw my metal fuel line shaking which didn't make sense since the fuel pump and filter housing were mounted to the engine.

Actually I didn't I had the same problem this morning. I am pretty sure I am leaking a small amount of fuel from in between the fuel filter and fuel filter block. My plan is to fill the sensor hole with JB weld.

your better than you give yourself credit for. I mean you did a great job here! I have a 6.2 and it stalls out because it's not getting fuel for one reason or another. Diesels don't like air in the fuel, make sure everything is tight. check rubber hoses and replace, 3/8" fuel line is cheap. Hope this helps
