Is that Half a bottle for a Car Tank? Some Bikes only have a 14 litre Tank MT 07 for example
@peterwilliams10042 жыл бұрын
Yes! My car was running as rough as buggery and running on 5 cylinders. The Merc specialist checked for the dreaded engine loom breakdown but couldn't pinpoint anything. He recommended, when the tank got to low, add a bottle of injection cleaner and run it as long as I dare before refilling. Fill it up and add another bottle.. I did as he suggested and it completely cured it. I used to regard this stuff as snake oil, not any longer! If you have rough running problems, try it first.

I've been using redex every few months in the same motorcycle for over 20 years and the bike has NEVER needed its carbs cleaned and runs as smooth and cleanly as the day I bought it. So yes, based on my 24 years of real world experience, I would say it does keep the fuel system clean, but what do I know...
@MunkeeMedia2 жыл бұрын
You will more than likely if at all notice a difference when idling. Fuel injectors become dirty and spray fuel less even and cause it to run rough. At speed not so much, but when idling the air fuel mixture has to be near perfect to maintain, thus an odd or interrupted idle. The rest of the fueling system will of course benefit in some way from being more "clean", but then you could also take a look at the fuel filter.

I recommend drinking at least 2 bottles for maximum results.

On my carb'd 99 R6 I add a royal purple fuel system cleaner. Once a month and berrymans B12 once a week. I am not gonna sit here like other riders and say my bike felt different after doing this. But at the beginning of the riding season, my carbs felt like it was gonna need a cleaning, after adding the fuel system additives, I noticed the response picked back up to NORMAL as if the carbs had a deep cleaning. And have been going 4 months and carbs still feel perfectly fine. I honestly wish I would have looked at the valves before doing so and now

Good man I swear by royal purple used it for 80k so far 130k on the clock and still going strong , a recent major service both said it still as good as a 2 year old also in the workshop needing an mot

If the fuel lines and injectors are clean, then it wouldn't do you any good. If you have an old vehicle or a 2nd hand one that wasn't properly maintained, then it should help

I think if your engine has no issues in the first place then you wouldn't notice any difference, but let's say if you had clogged injectors then maybe it wold do something.
@youneslarsson56919 ай бұрын
i used it today and i can feel the difference straight away
@HsushiKing7 ай бұрын
Exactly. My fuel injectors were clogged. Instead of flushing it out and taking it apart, I decided to use gumout. Tan the engine for a bit then let it sit overnight. Next day, no problems.

I have used this on my old car and I think it ran a bit better but also some improvement on mpg. I think the amount per tank probably relates to a car fuel tank so I think best to half the quantity that you add. Great video btw. Ps, I’m thinking that this might be more useful for a leisure rider who leaves the bike in the garage for 6 months unlike a commuter who rides 6 days a week.

I have used stp carb cleaner additive, and after a few tanks I noticed a slight difference. The iddle and response are smoother. But the difference is very little.

i only use SEAFOAM in my motorcycles. long ago i bought a 1990 gsxr750 that had been sitting for 3 years. i checked the oil. put the battery on the charger and when it was good enough i hit the starter. took a bit to get started but idled perfect. giving it throttle was a different story. it would sputter pop and bang horribly. i drained all the fuel out of the tank. put a fuel filter inline. put fresh 93 octane fuel with SEAFOAM in the tank and let her run for a while. then i rode it around the block and occasionally goosing the throttle and it would sputter pop and bang. after doing this for a few days i was riding around the neighborhood and goosed the throttle and it sputtered popped and took off like a bat out of hell and ran perfect ever since. i never cleaned the carbs and rode it for years.

It's more of a preventative measure really, if there are old sludgey bits in carbs etc. then it'll clean them up a bit but as you said in the video, it's somewhat negligible even in the best case. I am about to throw some through mine just to keep things fresh but it's not to solve an actual issue

I have no idea why people think they will see any results in a fuel cleaner performance wise on a well maintained motorcycle. Its not going to do anything. Also, Dont use this if your motorcycle isn't fuel injected.
@Loubie20056 ай бұрын
Why can’t I use it on a carbed engine ?
@tgopaul576 ай бұрын
@@Loubie2005 Because Redex isn't a carb cleaner, It's more of a lubricant. Carb cleaner is best for a carbed engine.

In my experience, if you use low grade fuel from the likes of Asda etc.. then you are exposing your fuel system to become gunged up with varnish over time. Cheap fuel tends not to have the additives that more expensive fuels have, so if you always run on premium fuel then your system should stay clean, if not then a system cleaner will remove the varnish over time. Injectors tend to become contaminated by microscopic grit and other particles, so only reverse flushing will clean them. Fuel additives will often raise the octane if you have low grade fuel.

I have a 4 carb1985 Ninja 600R that I would prefer not to have to disassemble and clean. Many videos slag any additives and pronounce that only carb removal and cleaning does any good. The Ninja has always had top of the line gasoline, with "Sta Bil" brand fuel stabilizer always added at fill up time. Did the research on it, and the additive does inhibit molecular clogging in the fuel as it sits in the tank, so this is a valid precaution for a small cost. Have just started a dose of "STP" carb and injector cleaner, measured in correct proportion to the tank volume. Will do one or two tank full's only. Not constant use. And see what happens. A lot of videos claim carb and injector additives eat the rubber parts in carbs - which they prove by soaking rubber in pure fluid - which seems like arguing that because pure acetic acid will eat your stomach it is proof that vinegar therefore will eat your stomach. If the STP does some small cleaning effect, all to the good. If not, will discontinue it. It seems unlikely that STP - a long standing, global company - has a product that is damaging to carbs and injectors, or that is totally useless. At worst, it might not do much good. But it seems worth a try as a carb cleaner. And no, I don't expect any more horse power or speed from the engine - from any additive.

I have a '98 5th gen (59k miles) and wondered whether the injectors needed a clean, the bike runs well, the plugs look spot on so. I sometimes decide to fix things that aren't broken, but this time I am going to leave it alone.

When getting hot my bike had an issue at idle, had a close relative who has worked on carbs for a while and he told me my carbs needed to be cleaned. Ran 6oz of Techron in a half gal tank, let my bike run till hot for about 15 min, idle issue seems to be clearing up. I’ll come back and say what happens after a hot days ride

I used this on a rebuilt classic 500 single for 6 years. When I took the top end off after seizing it up I noticed the same normal amount of carbon build up as it had before I rebored it and fitted a new piston. I would say it did nothing to stop carbon build up in the cylinder and the inside of the carb was also as black as it was before. During those 6 years, I really believed the bike was smoother and better on fuel, but it probably wasn't.

That's the kind of info I was looking for ... carbon build up.

Could you say these additives MAY stave off fuel / carb issues for a longer period. Also perhaps wash off carbon from piston tops and valves?

As sumone as already said it will clean the fuel injectors and fuel lines not, give you more power. Clean the jets in carb etc

Once in a while I fill my tank (99 VFR) with super, it has been debated that the super has the additives in the fuel to clean your pipes. So far so good 👍
@kennethtalbott2233 Жыл бұрын
don't get me started on roundabouts. people wait for something to arrive. fuel additives aren't going to make a noticable driving difference but they will clean your fuel system. you want your injectors to work as they should, if they don't you could end up with ''bore wash''. i would definitely use it once in a while for peace of mind. bought some yesterday in Lidl.
@alexmorgan34353 жыл бұрын
If this Redex is aimed at all petrol engines i.e. car engines, then most cars have a 60 litres fuel tank. I think the capacity of the VFR 5th gen tank is something like 17 litres, say 20 litres to make it easy for comparison purposes. So putting half that bottle of Redex in would on the face of it be far far too much. Btw now we have E10 unleaded will you be using it or going for even more pricey super unleaded for your bike? I think I shall be using the latter for my VFR. You could get E10 then syphon off the ethanol and add an octane booster and valve lubricant such as VSP or Redex might do something.
@vfourcruza77443 жыл бұрын
I think you're exactly right, though even with the super concentrated mix, there's no noticeable change. From what I've heard the VFR is fine to run on E10, so I'll probably continue to use that without any additive, however I'll probably swap to super unleaded for the winter months as the higher ethanol content might affect the tank when sitting for a while.

What if you mix unleaded supreme/vpower and an additive?
@joecater8942 жыл бұрын
to be fair though, I think you'd have to try it on bikes in a range of different conditions.... so, if your bike is fairly good... or even really good working order.. maybe expecting to notice something might be unrealistic.. and in your case, it might just be maintaining what you have... ; in the case of a gummed up half knackered old engine that struggles to start.... maybe you'd notice the difference.

Did I miss something? You didn't say your bike had any issues like hiccups in certain situations, rough idle, fuel wash into the oil (caused by poor aspiration), or any other symptoms of plugged injectors. This isn't a mod, just a cleaning. No point in telling us your bike ran fine before and it runs fine after.

It seems you're adding fuel system cleaner to a fuel system that didn't have a fuel problem to test if it works? If so.... why would it? Fuel system cleaner helps clogged up fuel systems, it "cleans" fuel systems that are dirty or clogged... if they aren't dirty or clogged, of course they won't magically add power.
