yeah, no music today compares to music of the 00s ... this album was one of the last great albums in the sort of passion, emotion based pop-rock stuff that was super popular in the early to mid 00s (this album dropped in 2012, I believe)... I struggle to find music I connect with nowadays, and it sucks.. I know it still exists. it's just that you really have to hunt for it. it's not in the mainstream... this entire album is really great though... and they were amazing live on new years eve in new orleans several years back. such a memory standing out in the rain watching them perform.

What do I stand for? Most nights, I don't know anymore [Verse 1] This is it, boys, this is war What are we waiting for? Why don't we break the rules already? I was never one to believe the hype Save that for the black and white Try twice as hard and I'm half as liked But here they come again to jack my style [Pre-Chorus 1] And that's alright (That's Alright) I found a martyr in my bed tonight She stops my bones from wondering Just who I, who, I, who I am Oh, who am I? ZamaBomvu ngubane If you look at this on an overall scale then the largest amount of 'meaningful songs' (songs that were about something other than shallow shit like getting laid, making money or general silliness that makes little to no sense) were definately written in the 1960's and 1970's. Even the 1980's had a higher general message value in their songs than what we get today.

(Come on) No. When I see stars, when I see When I see stars, that's all they are When I hear songs, they sound like a swan, so come on Oh, come on. Oh, come on. Oh, come on! Well, that is it guys, that is all Five minutes in and I'm bored again Ten years of this, I'm not sure if anybody understands This one is not for the folks at home; Sorry to leave, mom, I had to go Who the fuck wants to die alone all dried up in the desert sun? My heart is breaking for my sister and the con that she called "love" When I look into my nephew's eyes... Man, you wouldn't believe the most amazing things that can come from... Some terrible nights... ah... Oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, oh, Oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, oh The other night you wouldn't believe the dream I just had about you and me I called you up but we'd both agree It's for the best you didn't listen It's for the best we get our distance... Some Nights Lyrics Some nights I stay up cashing in my bad luck Some nights I call it a draw Some nights I wish that my lips could build a castle Some nights I wish they'd just fall off But I still wake up, I still see your ghost Oh, Lord, I'm still not sure what I stand for oh Whoa oh oh (What do I stand for?) Whoa oh oh (What do I stand for?) Most nights I don't know anymore... Oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, oh Oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh, oh This is it, boys, this is war - what are we waiting for? Why don't we break the rules already? I was never one to believe the hype Save that for the black and white I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked But here they come again to jack my style That's alright (that's alright) I found a martyr in my bed tonight She stops my bones from wondering just who I am, who I am, who I am Oh, who am I? Mmm... Mmm... Well, some nights I wish that this all would end 'Cause I could use some friends for a change And some nights I'm scared you'll forget me again Some nights I always win, I always win... But I still wake up, I still see your ghost Oh, Lord, I'm still not sure what I stand for, oh Whoa oh oh (What do I stand for?) Whoa oh oh (What do I stand for?) Most nights I don't know... (oh, come on) So this is it I sold my soul for this? Washed my hands of that for this? I miss my mom and dad for this? (Come on) No. When I see stars, when I see When I see stars, that's all they are When I hear songs, they sound like a swan, so come on Oh, come on. Oh, come on. Oh, come on! 6 of us from my choir were chosen to sing this in a competition years ago. They chose us cause apparently we had ‘powerful’ voices to match the high energy of the song. And still to this day, it’s one of my favourite songs I’ve ever performed and gives me such nostalgia to happier times. Oh and we won the competition :)
@melanieechavarria92413 жыл бұрын
So awesome. I remember performing so many times as just another voice in the choir, but still feeling the power and energy rolling like a wave through the group as we sang together... I may never have been outstanding, but together we made a mighty sound. Glad you have such great memories of not only choir, and your performance, and winning, but also this song. :):):)

And it never dawned on me, through “aim and ignite” and this release, that it was Nate from The Format. This song is incredible. Both albums are incredible. The Format was incredible. There needs to be a Broadway musical based on this album. It’s SO theatrical, it’s incredible. Fun released just two studio albums, and Some Nights is near-perfect. One of my all-time favorites. It has a theme, too, that could be translated to a stage show. I just desperately want this lighting-in-a-bottle musical moment to be appreciated by new generations again and again. It’s such a great time capsule for the early 2010s, yet so very unique. It even uses auto-tune in a good way. I love it all so much. This song is so fun to scream-sing in your car.

It's going to mean much more when you are in your 50's and come across it one night after no hearing it for a long time. My music is the 80's and every now then I come across a long lost favorite. The memories it brings back are precious. Don't let go of the memories. The world has a way of stealing happiness. Found it where you can and hold on tight. Past or present.

I remember my grandad playing this song when we were driving home late at night, when I was terrified of my homelife. he'd sing along and make me forget it all, even if it was just for the short ten minute drive. It was his favourite song that wasn't made in like...the 60's, he's never liked modern music. I reminded him of this song's existence the day he rang the cancer bell, I'll love this for all *eternity*
