I played it and I cried, the first half of Fuuga was heartwrenching, i felt the stress when the kids got sucked into the cannon, espicially when you fight the kidnapped ones on the taranis before reclaiming it, the shouts they do when you hit. Oh my heart, I love these kiddos I dont wanna hurt them ;__;

The gameplay loop of these games is worse than nicotine. Criminally underrated stuff here and I'm excited for the third one

I bought it on the launch to support it (finished the first game), but it's true that I still have to really play it.

You convinced me. I always used to see its name and cover here and there but didn't think much of it. Can't believe I missed on playing this.

Really liked the review, always happy to see people enjoy one of my favorite game ever. I just wanted to debate about the soul canon of the first game : [TL;DR → Soul canon meant to be a last resort option taht punishes you. Second game reworks makes it feel less impactful imo, though still balanced gameplay wise) I don't believe it was made to be "worth using", I think it's purpose is to be an escape door for people who mismanaged the difficulty of the game. If you play it too safe, you won't be strong enough for the boss, your only otions then are to restart, or to use the canon, which is punishing, but understandably so. You are punished for being too placid and the game does want you to try harder. Saving all the kids is not an easy task, war is not something you'll get through without casualties except if everything falls right into place. That's also the reason I'm torn on the Soul canon rework. On one hand, the system stays with the managarm at a reduced scale, and the soul canon now acts as a ticking time bomb, and that is less impactful in my humble opinion. Also, you can't choose who gets sacrificed so as a gameplay decision, it is great, cause that might rob you of one of your strongest child, punishing a little further your mistakes, but as a story decision kind of ruin the fact that it's your responsability, as you were the one to put them there in the first game (Even though it's still your fault they get put in, but it's not your CHOICE, so there's a little less accountability)

Ya know what, that's a very good point! I never thought about the soul cannon from the first game that way, and i actually think i like it better now! Also, thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I 100% both the fuga games...they're great and have decent mechanics :-) I kinda felt guilty when I had to kill the kids to get one of the achievements in the first game but did wonder how you were gonna play the 2nd one with everyone dead :-/

I learned today that a Fuga 2 exists, plus I do get why the first is obscure, the game punishes you unless you do an optimal playthrough. And I don't think I'm alone on this one, who loves to restart from scratch a playthrough?...

The problem is that CyberConnect2 has more of a reputation for making anime games than their original IP games nowadays, and since this is their first foray back into making original games after a decade of essentially being typecasted as an anime game developer thanks to Bandai I'm not too surprised it's not getting too much traction. Though I do think word of mouth is getting around and that's definitely helping. I think Fuga will probably be as successful as one of the .hack series, IMOQ or G.U., were and get around 700k units a year or two after the 3rd game comes out. Keep in mind Tail Concerto and Solatorobo barely sold more than 100K units themselves, so this would be a vast improvement for the series. When CC2 gets more of a reputation for their original IP games after releasing Cecile and Tokyo Ogre Gate I think the sales for Fuga will go up further and the series might cross the 1 million units sold mark someday. Though I definitely think CC2 needs to bring back the .hack series as that was significantly more popular back in the day and still has a lot of name recognition. Fuga hasn't been that subtle with .hack like references, so I think they're hinting that it's part of their plan to bring .hack back as well. That would definitely help Fuga and Little Tail Bronx going forward, and It'd be nice if they could be like Falcom and have these two series running in parallel to each other like Ys and Trails do for them.

Loved the first one but I couldn't finish the second one because I got bored. The general progression feels a lot worse especially because you don't trade items any but you have to micromanage funding, and completing all branched routes drag out the chapter and honestly ruin the flow because it feels like you have all the time and resources in the world to kill more guys instead of trying to chase down the objective from a story flow POV. Same for hitting rest points during the chapter it just kills the pacing and doesn't have a strong linkage to the story unlike the first where you're a bunch of ragtag, ill-equipped kids trying to push back against the invasion. Boss encounters are so much worse in this game they feel so goddamn repetitive because you keep trying to regain your guys back and it's the same "trying to wake them up" over and over again. The main antagonist is also too random for me to care about unlike the first game. RPGs are supposed to simulate an adventure, and limited ones like Fuga can't really afford to flesh out its towns or world map like higher budget games so game-story flow and atmosphere are extremely important, yet these are the biggest misstep of the sequel that the first game nailed so well. I'll continue to support these devs but I want to give this important feedback as a fan and I hope they'll improve.
