In response to what Fugazi fans are listening to now: Nothing has ever been as satisfying as Fugazi, but some Toronto bands like METZ and Greys, as well as other bands like Big Ups, and Future of the Left are keeping the early-90s post-hardcore dream alive.

Thanx for posting this. I must have been standing almost next to you. I remember so much from this, Ian talking to the crowd, the last drops of water from his bottle, kyeo at the end, break in, song number 1, exit only, runaway return. Gee they played well! Ian's guitar fluoro? Haha! I do remember not many people there knowing about them but it being a full room. So many of my friends there, if you'd caught more of the crowd... . Denis leadbeater talking with Ian as they packed up. He was the first one to tell me about them. He liked how Brendan played. I bought repeater for Melissa mccormick, who met them all, introduced me to Brendan when they came back in 93. I really liked guy, such a sick man! They were so great. Thanks so much!

Yo, wouldn't it be The Croydon Hall / EV's? I didn't think it was ever called "The Hull" .. but may be wrong about that? I saw Fugazi at EV's in Croydon in Nov 1993. I wish there was such a great video of that gig! (but it does feature as an audio recording on their web site live gig archives)
@rudolphyaeber10 жыл бұрын
The Hull was the old Soccer hall on Hull Road. There were gigs there before the council started using EV's.
@EvLoutonian10 жыл бұрын
rudolphyaeber ah! Thanks for clearing this up. I wasn't aware of that as I only started going to gigs around 1992, I guess. Is that about the time they started using EV's for the all ages gigs?
@stooger6886 жыл бұрын
I'd hate to get technical but this gig was at the old Croydon soccer club club rooms, which was on Springfield Ave next door to the pool. The other end of Springfield Ave away from Mt dandy rd is hewish rd which becomes hull rd when you go toward mooroolbark. The hull was actually the arts centre on hull rd up around the corner from Dorset rd, which I believe was used as a rehearsal space for young bands from around 1990,and the club rooms adopted the same name when they had shows there. EVs was the old Croydon picture theatre which was used for shows from 1992(?) on. I believe it's now the maroondah council youth centre, good it still exists. I lived in Vernon st only walking distance away in 1987/88. It's still difficult to comprehend that fugazi and bad brains came there to play shows. I didn't see bad brains. I'll never understand why.

@@stooger688 Good info! Yeah, I was going to EV's gigs around 1993,94,95 (and playing there in bands). Fugazi at EV's 1993 was one of those top gigs ever for me. I got to see them again in 1997 ('Wall Street' venue, Melb). The Messthetics a few years ago at The Tote was also great, and def brought a bit of the feel from the Fugazi rhythm section lads. I also caught Joe Lally's band in Japan around 2009, semi by chance, at a mini festival I ended up at on a trip there.

Honestly, not much punk these days. Mostly "ambient" music, like Eno, Harakami and A Silver Mount Zion. I have never really found a band to directly replace Fugazi.
