It's always a delight to hear your work, Thomas. Your artful interpretations of the baroque contrapuntal tradition are a shining inspiration for all who have ears to hear. Thank you for reminding us so compellingly of the living presence of the past.

It is for the most part playable, but there are a couple of spots that are impossible unless you have hands like Rachmaninoff. I saw a couple of 12th and 13th intervals. That being said it is very well done and doesn't have to be performed on a piano. I could definitely hear it being played by a clarinet, oboe and bassoon trio :)

Bravo, the piece flows much better than many scholastic fugues written by famous composers, :)

@stefomate I'm not a pianist myself, but I wish someone would give it a try and tell me what they think. When my Variations and Fugue on La Folia were performed in 2004, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that some of the most knuckle-busting passages were in fact entirely playable.

@thegreatapologist I assume you mean the C-clef. The score you see in the video is not the performance score; that can be downloaded from the link in the video description. I used an open score format for the video so that the viewer could more easily follow the individual lines, as Bach did in the Art of Fugue.

I love the picardy third at the cadence.

This is a really good fugue - however short it may be. In its similarity to Bach's own style it resembles Shostkovich's fugue Op. 87 no. 9b (which is in E major and has only two voices ...).

I like the open format that you have shown here. I'd like to play this piece on the organ so is it possible for you to post the PDF of the three line open format so that I may download it?

Thanks.. I'm a big Gould fan myself. Although I appreciate the precision of a computer realization, I'd love to hear this piece played by a "real" pianist some day.

Crazy! How do you build a fugue around such a complicated theme??
@Contrapunctus175015 жыл бұрын
It's called the Picardy third.
@platmosic15 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, what do you call that when the piece is in a minor key but ends with a major chord of the same name (i.e. parallel major)?
@AramRajski13 жыл бұрын
Yeah, pretty cool.

is this actually playable on piano???
@thegreatapologist13 жыл бұрын
Just so you know, the piano doesn't use the moving cleft.

This is just my taste, but the subject is too rapid and is not as easy to recognize as it should be, just my opinion though.
